Its a huge pain in the backside but on my connection I'm only allowed 3 devices authenticated by their MAC.

I've got 5 devices though! So I have to do a little bit of MAC spoofing.

On my xbox that works fine. However on my mac it seems to return to default after a reboot.
I don't know a whole lot about the terminal yet but i'm getting used to a few commands;
sudo ifconfig en0 ether 'mac address'

should that do what I want or is it that command that results in the reset when the machine reboots??

That's a temporary change and will not survive a reboot (as you've found). You could of course save that command into a text file with a suitable extension and add that as a login item, but there's probably a better way than that.

Is it not possible to use a cable router? At uni we all use them for wireless in our rooms/common areas and we can connect as many things as we want as it only uses the one mac address.

I was able to do that last year. got an awesome DD-WRT 54 setup. but then over the summer last year they got some scripting guys to setup NAT detection on their servers so I can't do it anymore. Now just run my router as a switch with the wireless for my phone.
