You just rejected my facetime! :'(
(well it says its not available for you - dont think it was something you had to switch on)
Edit! You have to switch it on under settings, and then phone.
I haven't used fb not on the app so I wouldnt know how it looks different.
Oooo bejewelled :p
Yes - you can connect to Facebook and play Blitz too. ;)
FB app is good enough but a bit buggy (it gets all confused if you switch to landscape a lot - which I do).
I've recently grabbed iTuneIn Radio, which seems to cover most of the UK radio stations (if you listen to radio of course). Also recently been playing Cat Physics. :)
Lozza, the GPS in the 3GS is also pants, and I doubt the one in the iPhone4 is any better.
Some apps on the iPhone can use an external GPS - namely the TomTom car kit. I know CoPilot can and I think Navigon can, but don't know if any other apps can (besides TomTom itself, obviously!)

^^ The GPS in the iPhone 4 is an AMAZING improvement over the 3GS
So much so in fact that you no longer need the overpriced TomTom car kit to get a signal :p Used it on a 500 mile round trip around the lake district and back (friend was driving) and it fit snuggly onto the dashboard. Locked on within seconds and didn't loose signal once!
Well, that's good then! The 3GS gets confused by ordinary roundabouts - I dread to think what'd happen if you drove near a magic roundabout. :D

Yea ;D The 3GS would even get confused when I was out walking with it ;D

I've used the maps thing when I was on the bus the other day and didn't know where to get off, worked a treat.

ahhh I experienced my first magic roundabout last Sunday in Swindon it was very weird
I first saw mine on BBC when I was about 4 years old.

Yeah.. if I'm honest it's only the look of the iPhone4 that I really like.. though words with friends is making me jealous lol
We have Word Feud :)
Well. After much pondering whether to get the iPhone 4 and hope the shape and feel grew on me or to get the 3GS with slightly reduced functionality but a nicer tactile experience, I finally decided upon a Galaxy S :D
Must say, I'm quite liking it - except for the GPS, which is pants (supposed to be improved with Android 2.2 (Froyo) due this month - allegedly).

That article refers to a GPS fix for 2.1. I'm assuming they'll include the fix with the Froyo rollout in the UK this month.
What's all this talk of crap GPS? Can't say I've ever really had a problem with mine.
I gave in...
250mb of free internet, 1000 text a month
No Contract, £450.

I should be joining the iPhone 4 club either tomorrow or Monday and moving back to Vodafone in the process.
oooh, I think I'm eligible next week too.
Edit: Just looked at prices, i'll stick with the 3GS!
I'm eligible next week but there's £120 Quidco available until Sundaon Vodafone iPhone contracts so I'm jumping a little early.
My 3GS is off to Mazuma Mobile in exchange for £200.

Ooooh lots of new message tones!
they're all too bloody long though! and it's still so difficult to allow a user a custom message tone eh...
My number ported back to Vodafone this morning so I'm using the iPhone 4 now. I always thought the screen on the 3GS was good but the screen on the 4 is leaps and bounds ahead. Text in particular is incredibly sharp.

It is amazing.
I had to buy it to try it out. It does it on the fly like the video !

I just got it for free?

It's free to download but the Spanish translation cost £2.99.
Don't need Spanish right now but I'll bookmark this for when more languages appear. Thanks. :)
I think I'm gonna wait. Rumours of new iPhone without the glass back are tempting me. Don't see much of a need to upgrade at the moment, so will wait & see what happens in the new year.
That'd be great if it did Welsh - English! Not getting much further than home for a few months yet!!
Portuguese would be nice. By April. Thankyou please. :)
I'm skipping the iPhone4. Nice phone but my 3GS does everything I want even though it is desperately wanting an iOS update (I'll do it eventually).
yeah, skipping the 4 seems a wise choice. A friend of mine just got one, but after the no-show that the white version has done I wouldn't be surprised to see some kind of update in june :/

The new version tends to be out in July every year anyway so I doubt there'll be anything a month early because it won't be the right time to catch ending contracts.

meh, june/july - all the same to me. ;D
Same - early release is unlikely.
I wouldn't be surprised if they gave up given that they'll be well into development of the next one by then. Suppose it could be offered as a 'low-end' option alongside the next model (like the 3GS is now).
The 3GS came out on 19th June. As long as it's within 30 days of your contract end you can usually upgrade anyway.
My brothers girlfriend has bought him a P&G Orange 3Gs for Christmas to replace his Palm Pre, now trouble is I can't unlock it for his O2 sim & it seems no retail store will either.
First off, do they use the same kind of unlocking software as ultraslow?
Carphonewarehouse said only orange can do it. Yesterday orange said they can't do it because it is running software above 4.0. Today orange said you have to be "an exception" - so what's the problem here!? I thought places like CPW just did it for a fee

To unlock your phone all you will need to do is call our Customer Service team on 150 from your Orange phone, or 07973 100150 from any other mobile or landline or 450 (07973 100450) if the phone has been used with a pay as you go SIM. Unlocking generally takes between 7 and 10 days.
They may charge up to £20 for PAYG.
Hasn't he tried that, but orange said they can't do it due to his sw version?
Hasn't he tried that, but orange said they can't do it due to his sw version?
Yeah they said that yesterday but I think that was a lie because today when he went back after CPW told him to they told him they can only do it after 3 months :/
They told me that an extra £5 on my bill was a charge for something that the complaints guy said doesn't even exist - it was for something totally different. They make it up as they go along.
Software version won't make a difference for an official unlock so they're talking ****e on that front. A lot of the time with PAYG they want to see some usage and maybe have the phone in use for a certain time as it stops people doing exactly what you have just done.
He's phoned up again and they've unlocked it for him alongside asking for a £20 top up. So not so much a charge for unlocking as an assurance that he wants to use the Orange sim (which is the sim for his work phone anyway!)
They didn't believe me when I kept saying that they were being lied to, but now his mrs is gonna go back & have words with this guy she knows from the orange shop who claimed its not physically possible to unlock for 12 months after registering with iTunes (LOL!)

Ok so im going on holiday in a few weeks. What do I need to turn off so I don't get charged for stuff (where possible)
Also does anyone know how much texts cost, it used to be 4 off my allowance for every text when I had my nokia, but I know the iphone is different.
Anything else I need to know? :)
In theory, just 'Data Roaming' should be enough, but that relies on the networks broadcasting the right information so I'm not sure if it's reliable.
For the paranoid - Data, Data Roaming, Push Email and Notifications is what I turned off when I went to the US. That worked perfectly.
I think where you're going is within the EU which is subject to a £40 data cap (unless you ask for it to be removed).

For the paranoid I'd just turn 3g off and cellular data. That way you have no data connection and just have voice and text. If you have wifi on you can use that in the hotel :)
Forgot about 3G. :o
I'd go with the above - I also forgot that I didn't have the 'Cellular Data' option when I went to the US, so had to faff about with turning everything else off.
On o2 it costs 11p for sending a text IIRC and it's free to receive a text.
If it's O2 contract, then, when calling from the EU:
Calling to the UK from included countries (per min) 36p
Calling within Zone (per min) 36p
Calling out of Zone (per min) 179p
Receiving a call (per min) 11p
Sending a text 11p
Sending a media message 26p
Pay & Go is bizarrely slightly cheaper for some services and the same for others. The within-EU prices are regulated by EU law so other operators will be similar.
