View Full Version : Sherlock
Anybody else seen this? I watched it for the first time last night and didn't think much of it, despite all the rave reviews I've heard.
It just seemed a little dumbed down for me. It's quite obvious what he's thinking most of the time as there are visual clues on screen yet the script makes him tell you exactly what he's thinking all the bloody time. It also seems a little childish with some of the scenes (last night he broke in to a house but wouldn't let Watson in, instead preferring to look around for clues on his own and then getting attacked). I know it's meant to be a bit of fun as well but you can't juggle serious and fun in the same show. One or the other please. If it stuck to fun I wouldn't watch it, if it stuck to serious I probably would. As it tries to be both I'll not be watching again :(

The first episode was really good, this one not so much.
I watched the first one last night as a mate was tellin me I should be watching it.
I enjoyed the first, so will try and check out last nights tonight.
what Matt said. First was great, second wasn't as good.

Well I really enjoyed the first one, hopefully the second one isn't too pants as it's on my list of things to watch tonight.
It's not pants Del, it's just not as good as the first one. It's suffering from it's own success I think!

Have to say i'm another sheep who thought the first one was better than last nights. It just didn't grab me in the same way.

Haven't seen any, don't want to. I saw a couple of trailers and a couple of interviews with the main actors and just thought "what a waste of a good idea". They should have concentrated on dark and serious.
Also, from what I've seen of it, it looks like it slips into the same production style as Doctor Who and Robin Hood, a style I absolutely loath. I may be wrong about that, but it looked like it from the trailers.

You're spot on, if you don't like Dr Who/Robin Hood then you won't like it.
I really enjoyed Sundays episode, it wasn't as good as the previous weeks but it was still bloody good tv.

^^ I'm not sure.
I loved Robin Hood/Merlin but love this too, however, it has a much different feel to it imo.
Funnily enough I thought Dr Who when I saw it as well....which is probably another reason I didn't like it.
^^ isn't that just because the guy had a big scarf on? :p

Old school!

No. It's because I don't like childish "adult" programmes and I knew it reminded me of something ;D

One of the creative brains behind Sherlock is Stephen Moffatt who wrote several Dr Who episods in the Davies era and has since taken on his role as Exec Producer.
Since every other BBC Saturday evening licence fee sink has tried to clone the Dr Who formula it's not surprising they all start to seem the same.
Just to buck the trend I thought the second was a slight improvement over the first. How many oppurtunites does Martin Freeman get to play 'Tim-but slightly older' before the offers dry up completely?
