Dont get me started on a text speak rant!
You aren't being a grumpy old man anymore than I am a grumpy old woman in this case.
LOL I'd reply the same way :D

If that makes you a grumpy old man, I've been a grumpy old man since I was 22...
Good for you, uncle Stan!
nope. I'm only 24 & disappointed if this is what the yoof of today think passes off as English!

You may be a grumpy old man but I wouldn't count that as proof of it, it's pretty reasonable to expect people to be able to spell to a decent level - they've got a full keyboard in front of them, why not make use of it properly, get their moneys worth. Before anyone asks that may be the Scot in me coming out, thinking of the extra value to be had from using all the keys rather than just 10 that can spell the most common words. :p
Stuff like that is so bloody annoying, I don't even bother trying to read it if I see it most of the time. If I see my neices and nephews writing like that I'd tell them they were being stupid. Grump on!
If anyone I was related to did something like that, they would be shamed on every forum I could find. You were gentle about it, Stan. I would have asked for the full name of their last teacher so I could go ask them how in the hell they thought passing my relation out of first grade was a good idea...
Both of my nephews are allowed by their father to use Facebook (even though they're both strictly speaking under age) and one of the conditions is that he is sees them using text speak at any time they're banned it.
