Ain't no new years like a Hawaii new years. Almost everyone has fireworks, and you're subjected to a constant barrage of noise for hours from 9pm onwards, a tradition courtesy of the Chinese immigrants in the state who traditionally use fireworks on new years eve to scare away bad spirits. Once things really kick in the smoke from the fireworks ensures you can barely see more than 50-100 yards!

I wish everyone a great year, especially for those that had an awful 2010 and deserve a much better 2011. For me more of the same please as 2010 was a very special year.

2011 feels like another good one already as a close friend had her baby boy @ 5am 01.01.11 :)

I did something rather unconventional for me.
A nice meal out, followed by a trip to the cinema, followed by waiting in the street waiting to greet some mates on their way to a club (not for me this year!), followed by midnight sat at my favorite place in Exeter (not the toilet, the quayside!).

New years resolutions, I dont really believe in, but I shall be trying to take better care of myself, and perhaps develop a skin care regime ;). I shall also be trying to balance this out by doing more manly things!! ;)

That video is slightly tame compared to what we saw elsewhere, but it's a good starting point for showing you how hectic it can get here for new years.

All that should be changing this year, as of tomorrow it's illegal to buy fireworks except by licensed firework display groups. Should make 4th of July and new years a) more spectactular as hopefully more money will be able to be collected by the groups, and b) a lot quieter. It's a nightmare for most pet owners, vetinary clinics have to hand out sedatives like dishing out Smarties.
