View Full Version : Windows : Help with Gimps
I've got a small mission to carry out involving pasting my team leader's face onto 80's themed cartoons and other such characters.
I have two photos that I have cropped to his face only but with white opaque space around the outside.
I did find out how 'paint out' the white space using the LAYER > MASK function which allowed me to make the areas transparent and bring back the existing image in the background.
To save me time is there any way to save the photos of the face with the white opaque areas removed so I don't need to make them transparent on every picture I want to edit?
**Edit**
I'm not too good with Gimp so if anybody could edit the files for me I would owe them one.
LINKS REMOVED
If what I understood there is correct you just want his face... no white in the rest of the image?
Save as PNG - that supports transparency :)

Cheers Joe. I did not know that.

Zico, sorry to hijack yer thread but a colleague at work (a London high school) has asked me if I know of any animation programs for a student to work on a project with. Instantly I thought of GIMP and GAP. I've downloaded GIMP but when I download GAP from the link on the GIMP site all I get is a load of files that appear to need to be compiled. Does anyone know where I can get GAP pre-compiled for Windows? :)
I'm not familiar with GAP but a quick search brings up the following link with an installer.

Joe, thanks for the help but do you mind removing the links now as I've finished my mission.
Cheers.

http://registry.gimp.org/node/18398Thank you. :) I found some search results on registry.gimp.org but didn't investigate them all. :p
I installed GAP into GIMP at work today and it worked. I just have no idea how it works. Considering my colleague wants it for a student of his to do an animation project I might have to learn! ;D

I might give it a go myself at the weekend. Brings back the memories of using Deluxe Paint on the Amiga 500+ :)

When I was asked for an animation program I thought of Paint Shop Pro's little brother, Animation Shop. If I could find a copy of that I'd be happy.
Enjoy yourself this weekend then. :)
