I suddenly realised I had never done any photos of my home town, sunny Wakefield. So, having to make a flying visit there this weekend, I rectified this fact.

It's actually a city - due to this cathedral:

(yes I used a dodgy HDR filter. Marmite.)

I remember this sundial on the cathedral - one of my earliest memories, that still remains anyway!

The court and the town hall clock, which I used to be able to hear from the house I grew up in.

Close up of the detail on the court - not a great pic I know.

Good old Queen Vic - this statue has been moved about 5 times to various locations in Wakefield, and also never gets vandalised, which is nice.

Sadly a non sequitur. Otherwise my home town - Chelmsford - would be a city too. It has a cathedral.

And no harm done with the HDR - It's not so overpowering as to look fake, and that's how I judge 'em, even though I don't like Marmite. :)

The thing with having a cathedral meaning it can be known as a city was only the case during Tudor times.
For the past 100 or so years it's down to the monarch to decide. And it's a grey area. Comes down to population, if the monarch (gov) think the place is important, stuff like that.

Someone seems to think wakey is important enough though - http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki?search=Wakefield

Nice photo tho :)
Like the one of the town hall/clock tower.
