View Full Version : Art
I am an absolute sucker for Art and Sculptures. Fortunately for the world out there I am astonishingly broke at the moment so cannot afford anything but my oh my I have recently fallen in love with some pieces which I will not be forgetting (nor will my bank eventually!)
One of my favourite artists is Mackenzie Thorpe. I first saw one of his prints in Southampton (West Quays) and absolutely loved it. I think I even dragged Pickers to go see it once or twice but just couldn't justify buying the painting.
Absolutely gutted now as it's worth thrice as much as it was! So it's more expensive to buy! Boo!
However, I fell in love with another one of his pieces and bought it last year on a "screw it, I want it, you only live once, I'm having it" whim... and it's one of my most loved items in the world!
It's called Under the Moon and is HUGE! I've only just been able to put it up due to the state of my housey and WOWZER. I absolutely adore it! First thing you see when you walk into my home :)

I would give sooo much for a Tim Burton piece! He's another artist I absolutely adore. Unfortunately he's all now MEGA bucks! Boo his! A poster may have to suffice one day!
Soo what are other peoples favourite artists and what art do you guys have!? :)
I have a few pieces of Moorcroft pottery - an interest 'discovered' from my mum. You don't want to know how much good pieces go for. Even the new-ish 'seconds' I have weren't exactly easy on the wallet (and I don't expect to be getting any more of those, either).
I bought my very first two pieces of art last month.
I love Lara Jade's work, and saw this just before Christmas come up on her website on sale, about 40% off from the price it was listed when it was in the Biscuit Factory Gallery in Newcastle. I snapped it up along with another print (out of her portfolio folder!).
Crime Scene - This came framed, limited to 30 (and I think I got the only one lol), mine is number 1/30, signed too. :)

HUGE! So big I haven't got it up, and I don't think I will whilst i am living in this place :(

This is the blog entry when she photographed it - Link (http://larajadephoto.blogspot.com/2008/06/photoshoot-with-martina-deborah-lawson.html)
and
Yellow Brick Road - not got this framed yet, but it's the one from her portfolio (even came in the sleeve lol
This cost me a LOT less than Crime Scene but I love it more, it cost me less because it is unframed, but I just love the image. Very Alice in Wonderland with a bit of Wizard of Oz.

I love the Tim Burton stuff too. Currently badgering my friend at work who's brother was the Head of Storyboard on Coraline & Corpse Bride. Hoping he'll help me get something original at a discounted price!
I love the Thorpe stuff too, was very tempted by a piece I saw in a gallery here, but couldn't justify the price. I will though, one day!

I like that, a lot :D
Oh yes, and I had a framed print for Christmas. Picked the print up at a studio in Australia in 2001 and had it in a tube ever since. Finally got it out to get it framed and discovered it was a signed limited edition.
Now I just need to find a wall to hang it on - it's 46" wide!
I love Mike Jackson art, particularly the 'hoodies'. There's none I particularly covet which are available at the moment. I love the quirky houses too. Phhebs I like your artist, we have similarish tastes I think.

I read that as "Microsoft Pottery"! Hahahaha! I have to admit the name didn't ring a bell until I looked it up and I recognise some of the styles. They are lovely but WAY too delicate to be in a household like mine!! Definitely not Pheebs-Proof-Certified!

I lubba Mister Burton. I tell you what, his exhibition in New York was fandabiedozie. It was stupendous!
Which piece of Thorpey have you seen? One of my favourites (the first one I saw) was Love and The Moon:

Although someone did say to me that it looked like the dude had just pulled a bunch of roses from the dogs butt! Made me laugh!
I want this one though and behold my payday... as soon as I get paid I will go in and buy this (hoping HOPING I can still get it discounted.. the store know me too well now)

Ahhh I like Mike Jackson too! He does awesome housey ones! If you like Mackenzie Thorpe you might also like Doug Hyde! Very cutesy!
I will probably frame a lot of photos soon and am about to paint a big canvas myself! Happy days :)
I shall poke about tomorrow & see if I can find the one I really loved.
I really like his where's all the beer gone.
These Thorpy prints, are they limited edition? or are they signed?
I love this one you linked too as well.

But I hate to see that if he decides to print a crap loads out and flood the market with it, then it devalues what you pay hundreds of pounds for. That would be hell annoying.

One of my favourite artists is Mackenzie Thorpe. )
I thought I recognised the style. I really like his "shepherd" ones. Especially "Out of the Clouds"

Indeed, I think I may have thought of something to get for my birthday! lol.
Mondo - He does limited edition stuff. The Under a Moon one I have is one of 295 I think and signed :)
To be honest though, I'm not that fussed on price. If I love something I LOVE it and will treasure it forever more! Never going to sell my piece! Ever! Family heirloom! :D
Vol - doooo ittt!!
Acid - I quite like those styles too but the little duffle coat dude and the big heart I just find simply stunning :)
he reminds of Lowry a bit in the more industrial ones. This is one of my faves.
