I'm going to give the guy a call tomorrow and see if he still has it. I've found out that I'm getting a sizable sum back on my federal taxes which will cover the cost of it. It's just like the one I used to have (though it is 20 years older and in considerably better shape).

I've been wanting another CJ since I sold my last one in 1991. I've been kicking myself in the arse every day.

Here's crossing my fingers it's still there.

Picked it up last night. It needs a couple little details worked on, like the brakes are a memory and it is in desperate need of a muffler.

But it did the 50+ mile trip home without a hitch. It even did better at climbing the side of a small mountain than either my Cherokee or Grand Cherokee could have.

It's noisy, uncomfortable, it's a right bitch to drive (no power steering, no power brakes, drums all the way around), the heater is only designed to put air to the passenger's side, the convertible top doesn't completely seal to the body, so the faster you go the colder you get.

But good God is it the most fun thing to hoon around in!! :D

I'll have pics later on today. Just got to do a couple things to it for the meet 'n greet this evening.

Like get it to stop when I stomp on the brake pedal!!

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics. I will try to get some better ones tomorrow. For sure before (or during) the weekend.

It's a 1955 Willys CJ-5 with 51,000 original miles. 4" Skyjacker suspension lift, brand new Bestop convertible top with half and full doors, new Bridgestone Duellist M/T 31"X10.50X15 tyres. Original 134 cu in Hurricane engine with a Borg Warner T-90 3 speed stick, Dana 18 twin stick transfer case, Dana 44 rear and Dana 25 front axles.

The brakes turned out to only need filling with fluid and bleeding. I've got the parts coming in to put the emergency/parking brake back on. It's on the drive shaft like older Land Rovers instead of in the wheel hubs like modern cars. Someone in their infinite wisdom took the whole damned assembly off and threw it away. So I've had to locate original 1946-1961 parts that haven't been made by anyone in decades. Located a guy in Vancouver, Washington that fabricates them from scratch. $117 later and they're in the mail. Backing plate, shoes, actuator assembly, springs, everything.

Original 134 cu in Hurricane engine with a Borg Warner T-90 3 speed stick,

Hmmm... I think, as a name, "hurricane" seems a little optimistic now, but I understand it was supposed to be a powerful motor back in the day?

That reminds me of my old SJ with the leaf springs, I drove it for over 2 hours to get to the Desert an unreal off road venue. I can honestly say it was like sitting in a deck chair in a garden shed doing 55 mph. ;D
Jeep looks great & a lot like the Wrangler jeeps we get over here.

Sweet! Considering its age it appears to be in fantastic condition. Do you have any history to it?

Gah.... Just like every time I watch a war film...

I am now looking at WWII Willys jeeps online - and I still want one.

Just a little update.

It got warm enough yesterday to finally take the top off the Jeep. Drove around with the wind flowing through (what's left of) my hair. Was an absolute blast!!
