So, anybody else had their council tax bill though? I was quite surprise to see that ours has had precisely 0% increase, quite a smart move in the current climate.

My total bill has actually gone down a tad. Everything has remained as last year except the local Police authority charge which has gone down 0.02%. So I'm saving a whopping 14.5p/year.

Bristol froze their prices this year. :)

We've gone up. Oddly every part of it remained the same except the local parish council (in a village of roughly 1000) which has gone up 15%. Not quite sure what's happened to make them want that much more...maybe we need some new signs telling us to keep off the grass.

Drug taking is a serious problem in your village?

0.0% - so a net decrease.

Of course, being a Tory council, they had to. After Central Govt said they expected it, imagine the flak they'd have got had they not toed the line.

After nearly a year of badgering they've finally accepted I am a single person and given me my discount!

I can beat that. Ours was all the same except for a reduction of 2.2% on "Special Expenses". As this years special expenses charge is £4.09 I make that a saving of 9p

I miss wandsworth :( cheapest council tax in the country!

No idea if Bromley have had an increase or not, but i'm paying more even with a 25% discount than I was!

I thought there was a freeze on council tax this year (with possible reductions).

Mine still hasn't arrived, but one of the guys at work found his online set at 0.0% across everything, which is apparently a 58p increase. I can live with that, it's when they 'only' increase part of it by 5% and the other services by 15% it drives me mad, especially while reducing the other services.

Seems like it's standing still for most of us then :)

Ours has gone down very slightly, a couple of points, I think... I seem to remember the missus telling me something about it... if it's not related to cars, guitars or alcohol, I tend to ignore how much stuff costs...

Yep

Isn't it if they freeze or reduce it, they get some money of central government. If they rise it they get sod all?

Still waiting, Edinburgh does like to bend me over, forgetting the fact house prices are through the ****ing roof being bang city centre and all :)

No idea what's happening here this year so will just have to wait for our bill to arrive.

The Government have funded a Council Tax freeze across the country. Some are still raising very slightly though although 4/5 have taken up the deal.

We've had 2.4% over the last 5 or more years, so we can't really complain whatever ours turns out to be :)

After nearly a year of badgering they've finally accepted I am a single person and given me my discount!

HUZZAH!

I take it they'll take it away again this year ;D

Bristol froze their prices this year. :)

So much for humanity elevating itself from its primeval origins.
For the first second or two, after reading the above, my mind cut it down to simple "frozen nipples ".

Thank god I didn't throw out my loincloth and club.

I've read stuff on our councils website and I think it's going to stay the same. It kind of hints at it but I've not seen a listed of stated prices yet unless I missed them, I was half asleep.

NPT council are a joke. All last year I had a "we will take you to court if you don't pay us the £0.00 arrears you owe" All because I paid it in one lump sum at the start of the year :(

Its now March and as yet, I still haven't had a breakdown of this years costs etc despite asking four times, twice via e-mail and twice via recorded delivery :(

Had our letter, police up, parish up a little bit. Overall up 0.6% can't complain too much I guess.

Up 1.8% it seems. Our rented band C 1 bedroom flat (har har property Edinburgh :p) costs £1388.95 in total this year and was around £1360 last year which works out correct I guess...

Bums!

FakeSnake

Mines up 3% for fire&rescue and 2% for the Police
County ad Parish are both 0%

Still a shed load of money though!

Best hope City status doesn't go to their head!

This government-funded freeze is all well and good, but what happens when the funding ends (next year?). Mega-hike? Not looking forward to that.

Mine's 0% but I'd have accepted a rise given the draconian cuts that are being made here - pretty much all of them hit the poor and vulnerable. True-blue Tory council I suppose. :(

Desmo
16-03-2012, 15:01
Our police part has increased by 3.5% but they must have cut back somewhere else as there has only been a 0.3% in total. First payment is up a few quid but regular monthly payments stay the same.

jmc41
16-03-2012, 15:48
Ditto, now it finally arrived it's police up (why when I was shot at along the canal at weekend is beyond me) but only means £9 more the first month.

Personally I don't care if chelmsford is a city. The only thing that will happen is rates will go through the roof! They can't this year as they are already set, can't wait ::/:

Band +2.9%
General Expenses +0%
Police +2.9%
Fire +2.5% (this in the year they sell off prime real estate for redevelopment ?????)
Overall +2.6% and £1314.70 for a Band C flat.

It's below inflation so probably shouldn't complain but as said above it's a shed load of money, especially when it's money that's already been taxed once.
