View Full Version : ScummVM and Ubuntu
I downloaded and installed scummvm on ubuntu last night, and the free packages with it for Beneath a steel sky, and flight of the phoenix or something. Now the question I have is this:
I have Monkey island 1 and 2 on CD (white label) and am new to linux. Can I install these games somehow onto the linux system and run them in scummvm? A step by step guide would be ace.
Ok, ignore that.. How do I copy the required files from the CD to usr/share/scummvm ?
I dont have permissions to create folders or put files there (even tho I am administrator). I need to use terminal to do this yeah?

The account that you are using to access the graphical interface will not be administrative. The way I always copy files is to use a terminal, then run a command similar to the following:
sudo cp /mnt/cdrom0/file1 /home/richard/where/i/want/the/file
Obviously replace the source and destination paths with whatever you need. The sudo command at the beginning runs the command as super user, the cp command is copy.
As Richard suggests, you'd be better putting the files in your home directory somewhere rather than /usr/share :)

yeah.. :)
Daz - you use scummvm, si? Have you ripped the monkey island midis to hard drive?
I do indeed use scumm but only really to play Broken Sword 2 in linux/on the pda. Never really tried Monkey Island though I have the files around somwhere.
Also used it to play Day of the Tentacle
Monkey Island rocks. I use ScummVM on the PC though so I can't help you there old bean.
I've used ScummVM on the PC to play sam and max! Like freefaller I don't know how to help though.
Where are you lot downloading your games? The idea of being able to play Monkey Island and so on again really appeals to me.
I haven't downloaded what I have, I happen to own them. You're quite welcome to a copy of what I have.
I'll have to remember to bring them into work tomorrow. No net at home for a while :(
 Cheers dude. I should be about most of tomorrow afternoon - I've got a flight to Paris at bastard o'clock tomorrow morning.

I've PM'd you the link to the torrent.
I'd like a guide to get the music working in SCUMMVM in the original monkey island... Or a zip fiel containg the soundtrack and a readme of how to use them :)
The music just worked for me, mind you, I've not tried it on a Linux box yet.
Thanks for posting this thread - the torrent finished before I left the UK so I've been amusing myself on planes and in hotels with Monkey Island 2. Oh the memories!
