Wondering if i should buy my mum this for her birthday, problem is its a special 60th and i also don't want her to possibly be offended by kitchen equipment even though i think she'd like fresh bread... Hmmmm :confused:

I love my Panasonic breadmaker and use it a fair bit for doughs etc., as well as bread. My parents have the model up from that (with the seed/nut dispenser) and use it pretty much every day.

You need to think about whether she's really going to get good use out of it though. For a lot of people, a breadmaker is great for a couple of months but then it just gets pushed to the back of the cupboard as the novelty wears off.

Precisely what happened with my mum. She got one (I think when she was about 60 at the time, oddly enough) and she loved it. It got used almost daily for a few months but is now nestled in the back of the cupboard.

The model above that (presumably the one Kate's parents have) was featured on the Gadget show this week and was judged the best of the models tested, if that's any help.

Yeah that's a problem i think my mum will face as well... Hmmmm I'll keep thinking! I have 2 months!

Well, the only breadmakers I've heard good things about are Panasonics. BUT you do have to want to make bread for them to be any use :D

We have a Panasonic, they do seem to be king of the bread makers. Ours is used almost exclusively for dough these days.

Our bread used to come from the supermarket though and now I get it from a small independent bakers so it's far superior to the product we used to buy.

I get my bread from a small craft baker a couple of streets away. The bread from there is so much better than supermarket stuff - they also make the most scrumptious pork pies mmmmmmmmmm.
