View Full Version : Is it possible we could have this forum added to tapatalk?

See here: http://www.tapatalk.com/plugin.php
It would probably mean i get to browse it more often, and update notifications and general ease of use on most mobile smartphones (iPhones and Android in particular) make it see fairly sensible?
Unless we already have some kind of mobile access that i'd thoroughly missed

A plugin for the forum that adds our forum to a list for tapatalk. Tapatalk itself an app that basically makes forum notifications/replies/whatever "push". It makes forums much more phone friendly :) It basically strips out the content of he forum and serves it to their app which creates the sytle and interaction elements. Pretty clever :)
More importantly is its fairly cross platform; BB, Symbian, iPhone and Android supported unfortunately not PalmOS yet.

Ahhh, looks like it needs a plugin added to VB, if Jamie or Daz are happy to do that I don't have an issue with it :)

Yeah that's why i asked :) The plugin serves to the app, but i'm not sure what our policy on having lots of 3rd party plugins is, and i understand if its an ass to upkeep, or if it's removed for being unstable. Just thought we could give it a go, i know most of us would probably use that more than computers i guess if we got the chance? Fairly sure i would!
I'd be nice to have, I use it on a couple of other forums and it makes reading them on a mobile much easier.

It's funny as 99% of the forums i regularly visit don't use it, which is a pain in the ass!

I find browsing on an iPhone 4 is great on standard vBulletin, the only grip is the 'Go to new posts' button on the forum view is a bit small

I agree with you.
I use BD on my iPhone and I don't have a problem with it :)

I don't have a problem using it, but its like saying i don't have a problem using the Gmail/youtube website on my phone, but i know i'd rather use their relevant apps. Because not only is it easier to navigate and better set out it gives me push notification or in the case of iPhones different media etc... I've done quite fine using BD on my phone, but it something we could install that i'm fairly sure most people (with smartphones) would benefit from.
I'll go with most of what has gone before. :)
My only possible issue with Tapatalk is how much of it goes through/gets stored on their servers. The answer may well be 'none', but I haven't researched enough to know for sure. Other forums have had issue with this in the past but I don't know if that is still true.
This isn't paranoia, since I'm not overly fussed, but others might be.
I have more of a beef than most with standard vBulletin due to the large amount of scrolling I have to do, but it's more than manageable (I can even hit the 'new posts' button with a bit of care :))

That is something i'd never thought of, tbh i don't know why (well i haven't actually checked) VB haven't sorted out really decent mobile skin? Surely "it's not that hard"™? And simply recognising mobile browsers and switching with the opportunity of seeing a full site would probably be nice as well. As i said best thing about tapatalk is how it integrates forums with your phone, so you receive push notifications :)
"Glass half empty": vBulletin have a subscription-based mobile forum app. It's not really in their interests to undercut themselves by offering a free skin. :)

They do a terrible job of promoting that, i'd never seen it. Also it's free for android... So undercut what exactly?
There's actually three options:
Tapatalk "standard" - the version you're talking about - free for the admin, not free for the user.
Tapatalk "custom" - $999 for the admin, admin determines the user price.
vBulletin - $199pa for the admin, free for the user.

I've paid for tapatalk, it's only £1ish so no need to start shelling out for anything! :)
Sounds good - I'd give it a try
I'll take a look at it and see what's what :)
I've heard of it before but not really taken a look at's what implemented in the back-end, although I'm sure it's just a simple plug-in. There's also another one called Forum Runner I think.

I agree with you.

The only issue I have, which is the same on every forum is if you go to quote a post, and its a long post already filling up the box, theres no way to scroll down within the box to get to the end of the post already there for you to start typing.
Talking of Forum Runner...I'm posting from it now :D
Was the easiest to install so popped it on to test it out. There is a free reader to download but you need to use the paid app to post. We are currently set as private so you need to search for "Boat Drinks" to find us.
I'll take a look at tapatalk later on :)

there is but it's a pain in the ass. You have to tap on the end of the line to get the cursor, backspace and it goes up a line. Then the same so on and so on until you get to the end.
Got the free one to see what its like and its nice and fast; easy to use too which is a bonus for people like me :p :D
We can even have our own branded BD app on the app store....for $249 per year ;D

Haha, glad you're all happy :p posting from tapatalk myself now, finally! :D
Guess I'd best go get Tapatalk then (once my iPhone has finished restoring). :)
OK, I have it as well now. I got frustrated by the popups every time I came here in Safari on the iPhone *sigh*
Seems to work fairly well.
The popup should only appear once or twice. If it keeps happening to people I'll try and get it removed :)

Ah awesome! Tapatalk is wicked :D
Just make sure you update it regularly though. My forum got hacked because of an out of date pluging :p
The popup only appeared once for me, but it's cookie-based and Safari does sometimes forget cookies.
Still, I was planning to install it anyway and did. No more zooming to read forum posts. Thankyou.
