Some of you may have noticed the last thread about our rescued greyhound when missing, and this is because unfortunately Susie had been discovered to not be cat friendly and we couldn't have her!

However, we picked up this silly chap on Friday and he's settling in well.

His name is Owen and he's a 5 year old retired greyhound. He had his cast race in Dec 2010 so he's quite newly retired, not really used to being in a home and having cuddles etc. We were warned that greyhounds are very lazy and love to sleep but I actually can't believe how much time this dog spends zonked out on the living room rug. When we do manage to drag him out of the door, he walks ever so well on the lead. He is very house trained and cries if he needs to go pee in the night. Last night he slept through and woke me up at 7:30 to go pee, then went back to sleep!

I have Easter off, to get him used to the house, and I'm going to start leaving him for short periods to get used to when I'm back at work.

He's a total daddy's boy, and if he feels threatened he goes straight to Phil.

The chinchillas are wary but coming to terms with the fact theres a great big animal in their room, he's not really fussed about them, he will watch them with interest. The cat is very wary and they had a chase yesterday so she's taking her time, but all things look promising.

Good luck with Owen, hope he turns out better with cats than Susie. Even if he is though as a sighthound if the cat starts running there's a fair chance he'd give chase given the opportunity - as long as you're aware hopefully it won't be an issue. :)

our grey was like that. Didn't bother with them sat still but they started running and whooosh!! She saw a furry thing to catch.

You need to teach your cat to man up a bit and wop the dog on the nose a few times. Then the chasing stops :D

p.s. looks like Santa's Little Helper :D

He reminds me of Santas Little Helper too, just the way he looks and walks.

He has got a bit more personality now, wags his tail when he sees us, walks with his head up and had a mad scoot round the garden this morning.

We left him whilst we went to see Derren Brown last night and he doesn't look to have been naughty, probably just slept! Although he was a bit needy last night and kept whining.

Went for a walk this morning and he made friends with a Shar Pei, he was very well behaved, which is good as he's shown to be a bit snappy with smaller dogs. Still no sign of the cat, but yes we are hoping she will man up :)

Owen is currently dreaming, about digging I think as just his front paws are moving. He sleeps with his eyes open too :/

Our cats were scared of Sally to start with. Ask anyone who has stayed with us who's BOTTOM of the pecking order now! ;D Glad he was ok on his own :)

He's still hard to take a pic of as he likes to be close to me, so this is the best I've got:

He's coming on, has a shiny coat and a waggy tail now.

Makes me think of Simple Dog: Hyperbole and a Half (http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2011/04/wild-animal-simple-dog-goes-for-joy.html)

Ha, that's hilarious!

Owen had a similar experience to simple dog this morning. He was playing eith his doggy friends, when a new doggy came to see them. This is a search and rescue dog, he's ace. Unfortunately, when search and rescue dog went off with his trainer, Owen decided he would like the trainer to be his new dad, and legged it after them. He's a greyhound, I have a broken ankle, so I shout to no avail and hop after them. Fortunately search and rescue man waits with Owen whilst I get to him. Naughty Owen!

Haha yayyy for Owen! He has that look that I'm sure can get him out of a lot of trouble very quickly!! :D

Failing that, he's a greyhound! ;D
