Car failed it's MOT today - badly. Gonna cost over £600 to get it through.

All discs and pads need replacing and it turns out all the springs have been cut to lower the car and don't fit properly (funny how they've been like that for at least the last 3 MOTs but no-one has picked up on it until now).

Managed to get the price down a bit by sourcing the parts myself. Ordered all the brake parts and a set of proper, Tein lowering springs from Camskill. Still gonna get shafted on labour though :'(

The springs were probably the tester being a ****. You'd know by now if they weren't seating properly.

I feel your woeZ. Mine failed the other week on a kingpin and rear tyres. Like-for-like rear tyres are £275+vat each, kingpins are about £150/pair plus I've got to change it all myself :(

I went down and had a look myself. When the car was on the ramp, the springs were completely loose and could easily lift out of the lower cup things. If I'd gone over any bumps a bit too rapidly, they could possibly have slipped out. If I'd known they were like that, I'd have changed them ages ago.

S'what happens when you buy a car off a dodgy bloke you met down the pub! :p

Last MOT for Barney cost nearly £500 ... I really resent spending money on the car for stuff like that .. I feel your pain :(

Don't feel bad Stan. My Jeep wouldn't pass an MOT no matter how much I spent.

No seat belts, no reverse lights, no parking brake indicator, no windscreen defroster, no rear fogs, rear turn signals are the brake lights.

Oh, and just for giggles, that's how it came from the factory. :D

The MOT doesn't backdate it's requirements. If it wasn't fitted when new you don't need it to pass. Additionally, reversing lights are not a requirement at all.

As leon would know :)

On a motorbike you can get away with no lights at all, not even a brake light :D

As if motorbikes don't have enough potentially damaging qualities! :D

She's back and legal \o/

Final cost £618.56 :( Could've been worse I suppose.

Mechanic says the springs probably haven't been cut - they've compressed. The car sits a lot better with the new springs and the ride is a bit better. She's sitting lower as well and looks the dog's dooodahs

Next project is the gearbox. Gears have been getting a bit stiff lately. Mechanic had a look at it and freed up some stuff and got rust off the connecting rod. It's a bit better but not completely. Looks like either refurb the gearbox or get a new one. I've always fancied one of the gearboxes from the newer revisions which have LSD so I think I'll probably get me one of them. That'll be in a few months when I've got over the current bombshell.

Seriously!?
It's how I used to run mine ;D

If you have ANY light on the bike then the rules all change and you need brake light, indicators, etc. But you can run it with no lights at all during daylight hours.
