View Full Version : Wedding Photographers in here!
It seems quite a few of us are embarking on (or are already established in) wedding photography, so to save clogging up Dee's beautiful thread, I thought we could have a more general one where we can post questions, links, our fave shots etc.
Off you go then :D
Hi, my name's Steeps and I'm an alcoh.... ah crap wrong thread :D
Shot my first wedding at the weekend as the main tog (probably rabbited on a bit too much on here about it :D ) and loved it, started off as "we just need someone to do some formal shots" to "can you do the whole day?". Crashing another wedding this Friday but would love to shoot more, I'll try to get some pics up shortly :)
I have another wedding on Saturday, their wedding car sounds awesome :)
Ill post photos in here when I've processed a handful :)
Chitty Chitty bang bang?
:D

The bride said, and I quote:
"A pimped out Morris Minor"
This better live up to the hype :D
Sounds like it'll either be awesome or a disaster. I'm hoping the former! :D

That is AWESOME.
The wackier car the better IMO. As much as I appreciate the idea of a RR, a more different car makes it more interesting, and the photos looks better too.
Ok, its wasn't exactly pimped out, it was just a gorgeous classic soft top :)
Will post photos as soon as I can, I am now on a Mac, and its a huge learning curve :D
Thought Macs were supposed to be really easy to use? ;)
Yeah, but I am a total dumbass :D
What software do you use for post-processing out of interest? Photoshop/Lightroom?
aperture is very good on macs, I'm currently using cs5 and trying to use lightroom. having a mare at moment, have three shoots to process and no time. Aaargh!
CS5 at the moment, but will be giving Lightroom a go when I have more time, I just need to get these weddings processed post haste :D
Seems me and Kitten are in the same boat :D
You girls are mad trying to process pics in CS5!
Not only it takes more time, it also takes up space every time you save a picture! LR you just make the adjustments and it creates a data file with those adjustments without the jpeg (only until you export), you don't actually save any work (very weird to begin with) but also great as it saves every stroke that you make! So after I give the client the disc, I can delete the jpeg files knowing that I still have the Processed RAW. If I need it again, I just export again.
Then it's the speed...process a photo, apply the same processing on the next 10 that are similar (taken in the same light for example) and bingo, you just processed 10 pics in the space of 1!
I do like LR but I don't fully understand all of it nor am I using its full potential. Need to find the time to play around with it a bit more tbh.
I couldn't get the hang of lightroom and preferred the extra options in CS5 RAW, so I use Bridge to sort the thumbnails and to copy settings/tweak from file to file.

This is me.

I don't have any problem with space, and the moment I'm still learning what works and what doesn't so I don't batch process anything - I do each one individually. Maybe when I am more confident and I've had time to learn how Lightroom works (I've had it a good while now and don't seem to be able to get it to work anything like as easily as I can CS5 - although I know Pete swears by it so it must be good), this will be an option.
I'm sure if I could use it properly, it would be a huge boon, but right now, no time! It is very high on my things to do list though.
Is there any good guide to LR that you used Ray? I have a few but I don't know which one is the best, because the suck it & see method really isn't working out for me this time.
(PS..sorry for disjointed post - am posting at work and keep closing the window!)

Second this - don't mind forking out for a book on LR if someone can recommend a good one.
Erm, I don't have a LR book or read any guide, it's all trial and error.
The most important tab is the development tab. All the processing is done in there. All reversible so I just play to my heart's content normally.
Would love to know what you do to your wedding shots Ray but I appreciate it's a guarded 'trade secret' :D
It's like the KFC recipe :p
Something about wearing a white suit I've heard ;)
Something about wearing a white suit I've heard ;)
Noooo, it's a reversible grey suit, with a reflective silver lining. ;D
;D Of course! How silly of me! ;D
Another vote for PS here - again though, through ease of use and lack of time to dedicate to learning/messing about with LR.
Will have some more photos by the end of the week, Vertigo will be joining me on Friday for a local wedding, then I've got another the day after, with a reception venue that has the most INCREDIBLE views I have EVER seen :)
Yeah Friday should be 'interesting' to say the least - thanks for the opportunity Dee although I'm a bit scared as to what kind of shots I'm going to end up getting - eek.
Was playing around with flash again yesterday (as the primary light source in dark indoor environments rather than fill outdoors) and still can't seem to wrap my head round it and get reliable results :/
You've got the luxury of being there to learn, rather then being there to get the shots :)
So even if you don't get a single usable shot (unlikely, but you know what I mean ;)), then it doesn't matter, you are there for the experience, and I bet you love it :D
Yeah I know and I just want to try to pick up as much as I can and get a few semi-decent shots that I'm happy with.
Realise that it's zero pressure compared to yourself as you're the one who has to get the shots :) Will try to observe what you're doing from a distance as I don't want to be asking you questions about things while you're trying to work :)
Ask away :) I know for a fact Ill have another student the day after, its the grooms brother who is very interested in photography :)
Honestly, its no problem... we'll have chance to chat throughout the day anyway, probably over a packed lunch :D
Got a wedding myself on Friday ~ forum members that lots of you know, so the shots had best be good! :D
I've run out of weddings, still need to put some shots up though! Server being a bit iffy at the moment :(
I am off to Wedding 1 of 2 shortly, see you there Vertigo :D
Toby, were you at Sineady's thing on Sunday?
Nope, wasn't me I'm afraid :)
Dee, thank you so much for having me along today, really really enjoyed it :D Am just sifting through pics at the moment to see if I got anything actually usable! :)
As did I! Was lovely having some company and a second pair of eyes :)
I've processed a little batch of mine for Facebook, will stick them up here shortly :)
Here's a handful :)

Some really lovely shots there guys,
Toby, I think of yours, the couple in the car, the confetti shot (he's looking RIGHT at you!) and the bouquet are my favourites :) You pleased with them?
Thanks Kitten :)
I am pleased with them in general, in terms of the 'moments' I managed to capture. My two main concerns are firstly that I don't pay enough attention to backgrounds when composing and end up having to bin shots or heavily crop them and secondly that my PP skills are very lacking and I don't seem to be able to get the sharpness, clarity or 'punchiness' that others do from theirs. If anyone wants a copy of any of the RAW files to show me what they could do with them just let me know :)
I have put a full Flickr set up with around 150 shots but it's a private one as it's not my place to bandy shots of someone else's wedding around in public. If anyone is interested in just viewing or even critiquing then let me know and I'll forward a guest pass to the whole set.
ahaha! The background thing is the biggest lesson I got from my first shot. 4 hours spent cropping a washing machine out of the background of a bouquet shot, and I will NEVER make that mistake again!
I'd love to see them please.
Just the one for now from Clare and Matts wedding yesterday :)

Toby, as I said via PM, your photos from Kelly and James wedding are just amazing! You should be really proud :)
Kitten, can't wait to see the Pitches photos!

Beautiful Dee. :)
Thanks Dee and that's a lovely shot - see I'd never think to try something like that! :)
So glad I managed to accompany Dee just before she takes a long break from all this but now I have a taste for it I need someone else to hitch a ride with - anyone? :)
You'd be welcome to join me but I've not taken any more wedding bookings yet, just baby shots. welcome when I do get some more weddings in the calendar though. :)
Definitely interested Kitten, please let me know as and when :)

That's clever :) Heart that. A Lot.

I love the idea, but the symmetry makes my OCD kick in and want to move her backwards and straighten them up! ;D
Err, I appear to have just bought a Canon 50mm f/1.4.
Oops ;)
Ahahaha, sucker ;D
PS. Got the CD :)
Hehe - just about everyone I know seems to have one except me - felt left out :p

I used that and the 17-70 for pretty much all my shots on Saturday. for the detail shots you just can't beat it.
Used to have a Siggy 17-70, awesome lens
Weee, 50mm f/1.4 has arrived. Well happy with it although I've borrowed a friends on occasion so I knew what to expect.
Got it off the TP forums - used but mint with a genuine hood for £220 - bargaintastic :D
Been processing some older photos tonight along with some new ones. Quick selection of my faves :)
