Weird thing. Last the laptop just went blank. While my girlfriend was using it the screen turned off. Upon further investigation the USB mouse wasn't being powered. Turned off, the on and nothing. It doesn't seem to be posting. Power and wifi lights come on but that's it.

Thankfully it looks like the hd is easy to access if the worst comes to it. Ram seems to be replaceable too. Outside of that I'm stumped.

Unplug, take battery out, leave for a while. Just in case a reset sorts it. Then try with battery only, and cord only - in case one or other has quit. Clutching at straws though - sounds like it's dead, Jim. :(

Hard disks and memory are usually fairly easy to get at, but most else is going to be trouble.

Yeah tried those things. Got the HD out and the data is fine. Laptop just won't do anything other than turn the power light on.

Cooked motherboard/CPU then. Either way you'll have an almost impossible job fixing them.

Aye :/ If it was a desktop I'd be fine, but a fiddly laptop... boo.

Interestingly I took the RAM out and the power light blinked to indicate a RAM issue. Also the fans do speed up after a few minutes of it being on so maybe the CPU is ok. No USB power though, that's an odd one. Probably right about it being the mono.

Wonder how much that'll cost to get repaired. Naturally it's out of warranty.

Em's got one of these. It was a refurb. During its 1 year warranty it went in for repair for something I forget what. Since that run out I've had it apart quite a few times now, most recently because the screen randomly goes completely white. They really get very hot. I can email the service manual for a CQ60-111EM if it's any use?

Well after trying I've got nowhere. So I rang HP who said it would cost between £221 and £480 to fix a £260 laptop. What!?

So now we're looking for a new laptop. 15'' screen, numpad and around £300.

You missed a bit of a steal with a Samsung RV511 posted in another thread, but I'm sure there will be more deals like that - it's back to school/end of season time. :)
