VHS to DVD

I have a very precious home video that I would like putting onto DVD if it's still working. I am a bit hesitant to send it away, so was wondering if anyone on here has the right set-up to do this? I would feel much happier giving it to someone I know to have a go.

Alternatively, has anyone had this done before professionally? If so, where?

do you have a video player? I have a proper dvd recorder I could lend you :) might even have the cables knocking around too.
