Anyone tempted to get this?

Now you could either make this into a download box, an intelligent network storage box or just something to tinker with. At $25 (pre uk markup) I'm tempted to get one and tinker.
Yeah! It looks awesome, such a cool little project :D

Mine was delivered at the weekend and now I have an HDMI cable I've installed Raspbmc (www.raspbmc.com) and am playing around with it. Have managed to get it running and playing video files as well as streaming from iPlayer, ITV Player and 4OD :)
Hopefully this will be able to replace my old Shuttle based media centre as it's much smaller, much lower power, and silent!

how much of a nerd do you have to be to get one of these bad boys running? looks like it could be a good thing to have my terra's attached to rather than the PS3 for streaming media to the TV.

You do realise that this was designed for school kids to learn programming, yes?
In other words, it's nice and simple :)
Still waiting for mine.. I had an e-mail saying they were aiming for delivery for a few weeks ago, but nada yet :-/

I had read something along those lines, excellent.
what I would love is something that I could just turn on, it boots up and then I have access to it via the network so I can dump stuff on it from the laptop and watch it via the TV (which can read from media servers on a network)
I would need to be able to plug in my pair of 2Tb drives somehow, and you already say you've plugged an HDMI cable into it :p

This is mine, at the moment:

I need to sort out a case of some kind (might get a printed one, or print a card one) and swap the keyboard and mouse for an IR remote and a USB HDD.
What would be best for you is a NAS (for your drives, this is the one that Garp recommended for me and I will be wanting to buy when I have the available funds Synology (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Synology-DS112J-DiskStation-Bay-Enclosure/dp/B007E8DIO6/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&coliid=I37CZZR9X2L1R6&colid=1O4VSN29JB8SS)) which can be accessed by either your computer, or the Pi (it's really easy to add network folders and stuff to your library).
For now, I'll be using a USB HDD enclosure, which will have the 1TB drive from my current media box. To get files on it then I'll probably just unplug it from the Pi! and plug it into my PC. Obviously, everything gets much more streamlined once I have/can afford a NAS (possibly by selling my mini 9 and the shuttle).
I'm hoping to use an MCE remote (haven't tested it yet, but am going to do that today, so expect an edit later, but the developer of Raspmc posted this, today, "The next release should support every remote out there" which is promising :)) which can be picked up on eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dell-Remote-Control-Kit-Microsoft-Media-Center-Enabled-PCs-/180880893682?pt=UK_Computing_Remote_Controls_Point ers&hash=item2a1d5766f2) quite cheaply. There are also apps (the best of which is allegedly XBMC Commander on iOS) to control XBMC, which work with Raspbmc (obviously!).
With this setup then you'd be using the Pi as a media centre and so won't have to put up with the dodgy menu system on your TV. Plus it looks fancy and you get extra tweaks and things, such as catch up TV (so far I have iPlayer and ITV Player working, 4OD is being temperamental but that's par for the course with that pile of poo anyway! Happy to post up links and whatnot for the various add-on files if you forget how to google :p).
So far I'm incredibly impressed with this little machine and I find it likely that, given the incredibly low cost, once I have my media centre up and running happily I may well buy a second one and actually learn linux properly (which would make Garp happy, after he's answered all my stupid questions) :)

I have my order code, but not yet had a chance to use it... which means by now I have probably lost my slot anyway... :(
Talking about NAS, has anybody got FreeNas running on it yet? I fancy running one to act as a NAS with UPnP server (a la FreeNAS) and maybe looking at another to act as receiving kit...

**UPDATE**
The MCE remote didn't work (annoyingly), but hopefully will be supported in subsequent releases.
In the meantime I dug out my old keyboard remote (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Handheld-Wireless-Windows-Keyboard-Control/dp/B003ZV3O86/ref=sr_1_10?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1338368566&sr=1-10) (where the joystick stopped working after 3 months), and as all the XBMC commands are keyboard commands it works pretty well :)
I registered interest originally & still haven't heard anything.
I've got a NAS & subs to lovefilm & Netflix so sounds like my plan to use it as a streamer is easily doable. ;D

Looks as though Lovefilm and Netflix specifically do no support anything Linux/UNIX based.
So your subs will be of no use on a Pi...
Which sucks :(

Looks like a really interesting prospect for a thin media client. You sure there are no plugins for LF or Netflix on XBMC?

Looks like there may be a Netflix add on (XBMCFlicks), but nothing for Lovefilm.

Coooooooolll :) Love the Pi!
I've been roped into electronics at work and the pi has been discussed a bit.
Therefore I have registered my interest. I'mnot expecting anything quick to come of it though - I get the impression there is quite a waiting list!
Not sure What I would actually use it for, but it would certainly be usful for work!
So it's here, I've stuck wheezy on and so far done nothing obviously it due to lack of time. I'd like to make it a media centre, especially if on demand channels and Netflix work!!

I think there is a xmbc port
Yeah, pretty sure you can pop XBMC on it :)
Dymetrie

You can put XBMC on the Pi, but it'll be a Linux variant and so won't support XBMCFlicks (which doesn't support netflix outside the US anyway).
Bit of a shame that Lovefilm/Netflix aren't allowing licencing for Linux systems.

if it is linux, can you put plex on it?

Doesn't look like it at the moment (http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=23753&p=224963) :(
Looks like the DRM issue is causing the lack of Netflix/Lovefilm...
Bond; I may be picking your brains over Xmas. What wireless adapter should I get??
One that has good Linux kernel support (i.e. doesn't require hacked Windows drivers/firmware). It's all down to the chipset. Last time I researched this (a few years ago now), Edimax stuff was a good choice.
I haven't even got my Pi out of its box, so can't tell you if that theory actually works!

I'd agree with what Mark said :)
Although, to be honest I'm not clued up on wifi as I have my Pi hardwired!
I bought one because I thought it was cool, got a box and a decent speed memory card. Booted it, faffed around with it for ten minutes then turned it off and sold it. Waste of time.

Mine's been running as our media centre since I got it, in May.
Having an idea of what I wanted to do with it (as well as it being cool!) meant that it actually got used for something.
Now, due to a broken DVD player and Linux limitations, it might get replaced by something else. But, I'll most probably set it up to run headless as a NAS, or something :)

I would certainly only use one as a media box :)

Have you considered a jailbroken Apple TV?
Have you seen the price of the second hand Apple TV2s?
I bought mine initially for £70 and sold it a couple of weeks ago on eBay for £165! With the money, I bought myself an Apple TV3 from eBay for £82 and the rest was a nice profit.
The ATV3 can't be jailbroken and as all my media is in iTunes, I have no need for a jailbreak so I'm quids in and I have an upgraded box.
Aye, ATV2's command silly money these days.

I'm a complete noob. I don't think the raspmc partition fills my 16gb card. Is there a way to resize it??
Oh, maybe it is using all the space. Just now need to work out how to get some media onto the SD card - will I need to install linux onto windows computer to connect to pi??
The official xbmc remote on android doesn't seem to want to work which is a pain. I'm going to try and get iPlayer and all installed tomorrow and test it all out!

The ATV3 hasn't been jailbroken yet.

Due to changes in xbmc the old web interface has been removed.
Try using Yatse instead. Works great for me and my pi. :)

There are no indications that it will be, people have been saying 'yet' since it was released but it's not happened. That's why the price of the 2 has rocketed. I'm not saying it won't be but don't hold your breath.
Got yatse- thanks! Also when I connected the pi to tv via hdmi, the tv recognised xbmc as a CEC thing so the tv remote controls it! Also plugged the pi into the tv's usb port for powering it. Blooming amazing! Got a wireless dongle on order and may try and get live tv set up. If it goes well I may even set up a HDD for recording onto. Very impressed!!!

Its been done. ATV3 jailbreak will be available for download by the end of this month.....apparently.

It's certainly very good at playing video files. Have had a few 1080p files play flawlessly. Sadly, it's not so good with audio files.
Silence for the first few seconds, won't play multichannel... not great, but it's early in it's life, but at the moment the old xbox with xbmc is better.
Now dropping the new beta onto my Pi to see whats changed.
I've been looking in the Pie shop as I want a pie to run XBMC hopefully using the network to stream from my ZyXEL NAS.
I saw two basic options in the full kits - OpenELEC XBMC and Raspbian. Whats the better option?
Ultimately I only want XBMC but I'm a python developer so would Raspbian be a better option??
