So has anyone been trying to get any bargains from Black Friday?
Does anyone know of anywhere other than Amazon which is taking part in this?
I have bought three things so far :D
It's a bit stupid doing it the week before most people get paid!
I haven't seen anything I want yet. I think Tak has though.
Got some hair clippers yesterday and interested to see what the hidden Lego box is at 6pm.
It starts day after thanks giving, hence this week. So similar to our boxing day sales which come when we are all skint.
Wouldn't mind the white Denny set that is back on today, but can't afford it.
There was a 50" Samsung tv for under £500 :'(

Well judging by that it should be next week as Thanksgiving is Thursday... - they should do Black Friday, then a week of sales...would make a lot more sense. At least some of us get money for Christmas in the UK!
Oops I was slightly wrong, black Friday is the Friday after thanks giving. The rest of the deals are just an extended run upto black Friday.
I do understand the concept, I'm just saying I think the timing is a bit crap, when a week later, a lot of people would be able to buy more.

It is abit of a pain doing it just before payday, thankfully I have money saved for Christmas pressure :)
I saw that Will, looked like a good TV as well, you would have needed to be SUPER fast though.
Yesterday I got a pair of trainers for £20, also a Tom Tom for £62.99. I was ready for the Tom Tom, even though I clicked it less than 30 secs after it game up I ended up being 188 on the waitlist for it, thankfully 188 people didn't want it so I grabbed it. Also got the Just Dance 2 Wii game today at £8.97, which was good as I was going to get that for my lil sis for Christmas ;D
I got the complete Enterprise dvd box set this morning; they did have the complete Voyager box set which would have been my first choice of the two but I'd told myself only one of them and only if its more than 50% off (Voyager was only 39% off :p )
There is a Fringe box set due for pricing at 7pm I think it is so I'll see how much that is but unless its 60-70% off I can't afford it.
Looked at the zumba dvd kit that amazon have on there but although interested the discount isn't enough to make me part with cash :p
Hmm, 21-disc Laurel & Hardy box set for £22...

I saw the Zumba set and I thought you would like that :) Glad you got a bargain Tak :)
Go on Belmit, you know you want to ;)

:D
We might have ordered a new mattress.
There's another telly coming up in half an hour.
There was a 50" Samsung tv for under £500 :'(
If it's the same as the one on today then not worth it as it's not full HD 1080 resolution only an HD ready 768, which at that size would look a bit crap.
There's a newer model (51") than that one on the normal site for £512
That's still only an HD ready TV. There's a 50" full HD LG plasma TV for £549 on the main site with built in Freeview.
That one has built in freeview too - anyway, I wasn't suggesting he should buy that one, just pointing out that it's not even the best deal available on the site pre-Black Friday. THere are probably hundreds.
Back on track though I haven't seen anything I'm overly interested in yet but the Clint Eastwood 35 films set looked interesting but I was asleep when the deal started so I dont know what price it was. Although if they do a PS3 deal like the Xbox deal they did last year(maybe year before) then I'll try to get that. :)

Yeah, sorry typing what I think before brain has a chance to intervene. :)
Maybe I should have had more than 3 hours sleep since 2:30pm yesterday.
They're doing a great deal on mattresess ;D

No it was different it was a full HD TV and built in freeview. :) However, I don't need one, it's pure greed, and I could get them cheaper than amazon from my supplier anyway - it's just amazing the discount they're doing!
I wonder how many people saw that TV yesterday then and thought great deal but didn't manage to get it, then see another 50" samsung up today and will buy it without checking properly.
And yeah some of the discounts and deals are amazing and others not so much. :)
Yeah that's exactly it, todays' deal is no way in the same league as yesterday!

Loads!!
Bought a Harry Potter DVD for my Mum for Christmas but I was going to buy that anyway. Otherwise, not really seen much that's taken my fancy which is a good thing really ;D
It seems I posted too soon :D
Nabbed The Lion King on Blu-ray and DVD for £7.49
Got my purchases (so far) through today... https://twitter.com/#!/markwalker_/status/139409414980513792/photo/1
Now I just need to find a bluray player to replace last year's now broken one!
I managed to get some new kitchen scales. I'd wanted them before but couldn't justify the price but at 40% off I thought why not :)
I'm off out for pole soon but have asked Mic to get me the Pratchetts if they got to £35 or less :)
So £24.99 was an ok price then? - Ordered.
Not even had chance to look. :(
I did just find Paint Shop Pro X4 for 60% off though. Wasn't going to buy it, but at that price may as well as it'll also give me a second legit license.
Don't forget, alongside Black Friday there is the relatively new tradition of Cyber Monday, expect some deals to kick in on a number of online sites on Monday.
It's a bit stupid doing it the week before most people get paid!
You'd have to go back a couple of hundred years to the silly ninny that suggested the final Thursday in November as Thanksgiving ;D
It's not really that big a problem here as it seems almost everyone is paid twice a month so most folks just got paid or get paid on Friday (?.. I kinda lose track), so most folks should have money.
Someone started camping outside Best Buy in Honolulu on Monday morning, ready for the Black Friday deals :huh::confused:
no, they do it the week following Thanksgiving, not before ~ typical yanks have it all back to front. Besides, its amazon.co.uk, so they should cater.for their audience and screw doing it at thankgiving, it's hardly something we're going to celebrate!
Not everyone gets paid at the end of the month though either! They need to cater for everyone dammit!
Thats why I said 'most'.
I should really learn that you can't make a comment on bd without a full postmortem. It's my opinion, I'm allowed it, it's not because I dont understand it, and I still think it's stupid.
Oh for goodness sake, I was just teasing... calm down dear, it's just a BD post...
Should have put a barrage of :p's after my post clearly.
Wasn't referring to your post Will, rather that the assumption is always that you need something explaining to you, rather than you do understand the concept and STILL think it's silly. (which, to be fair is exactly what I said after answering you). It's not always all about you, you know!
You should all be more worried about the fact that I'm blacking up for Black Friday tbh.
Then why reply to my post?? MEh whatever - I won't derail the thread. Smile - it's not that bad. :)

Group hug everybody. We can all get covered in Belmits racist face paint ;)
(please note sarcasm relating to the paint and don't all jump on my head :p )

I replied to you, then in general. Didn't think you'd jump to the conclusion it was directed at you but perhaps I should know better by now!
Keeping an eye on the kindle cases...
Gonna bash your heads together!!!! :p

Do they have boxing day sales in the states? I'm guessing not.
I'm all for getting a good deal on stuff but it does seem odd we're doing black friday when we're don't celebrating thanksgiving.
Why is old stuff coming back on? They obviously couldn't shift it the first time??

It'll just bring her and me closer ;) <3
More full HD 50" tvs!!!! :'(
If it weren't for the fact that I'm not even using my current HD tv or anything I'd be all up on that!
Do I need a big tv? No. Do I need it because it's bigger/better? Yes.
I'm such a bloke... I like gadgets!

Buy one and loan it to me til you have somewhere to put it :D
I've been stuck in a meeting for the past 2 hrs so missed it anyway! Wasn't meant to be!
Got stuck behind some of the slowest drivers on the entire planet today on the way home :/ Meaning I missed the deal I wanted by 6 minutes, I'm on the wait list but I don't hold out much hope. Annoying thing now is having to wait by the PC in case the deal comes up.
EDIT: Bah too late :/
Got a few nice deals on Black Friday here, gifts for me, wife and family:
Panasonic Lumix FH25 - $99.99
Playstation 3 160Gb, Ratchet & Clank & LittleBigPlanet 2 - $199.99
Kindle DX - $259.99
All from the warmth of the house sitting on Amazon, best way to do Black Friday tbh :p
Do they have boxing day sales in the states? I'm guessing not.
Nope, nada. Most Americans don't even know what Boxing Day is (and as such I'm working that day). Canadians do, though.
We do get general post-Christmas sales as overstocked shops try to shift their stock.
Along with the consumer orgy of Black Friday there was also stupidity. (http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/calif-black-friday-shopper-shot-in-walmart-parking-lot-during-attempted-robbery-of-purchases/2011/11/25/gIQAMbzovN_story.html?tid=pm_pop) Among the news stories today: Someone got shot by robbers stealing his shopping as he left the store at 1:45am. One woman decided the best thing to do was spray a bunch of shoppers with Pepper Spray to ensure she got to the items she wanted (or maybe she'd been watching Fox News and heard how it's "basically a foodstuff" and thought she'd help them meet their daily allowance).
I think that was Leo's point ~ we dont celebrate TG, they don't celebrate BD, yet we get the same celebrations as them...
Tbf the UK is missing a massive trick with not having Thanksgiving, it's the best holiday ever :D One of my pet hates in the UK was the massive and miserable gap between the August Bank Holiday and Christmas - Thanksgiving not only fills that gap but is an epic pre-Christmas Christmas dinner that you get to do all over again 4 weeks later - I literally cannot see any downside to this holiday :D
