Anyone any good with networks?

I've recently started to have trouble with my network. Mostly my phone losing wifi and my xbox disconnecting both rather frequently.

Just now for example I was upstairs & my phone lost wifi & xbox lost it's connection, but I've come down here & my mac is connected just fine.

My network runs from a Linksys WAG160N, through two different types of mains LAN adapters, one goes to the first floor in to a linksys switch to serve an xbox, freesat box, mac & PC. The other heads up again to my PC/Xbox through another switch. Everything running from DHCP.

I've never been all that good with networks so I never really know what to do, but would it be worth spending some time devising static IPs for everything or is there something else I can do?

Well, I imagine your iPhone is sueing wifi, while the xbox sounds like it's using a lan connection, so it would suggest a problem at the Linksys WAG160N.

Are there any firmware upgrades available for the router? We've had a lot of issues with the connection dropping since BT updated our exchange to 21cn. Our test router here just locks up and you can't get anything, but it may be possible that something is causing the router to reboot itself.

Mind you, a quick glance on Amazon suggests that a lot of people have issues with this router... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Linksys-Cisco-WAG160N-Wireless-N-Router/dp/B00164IRRW

It looks like there could be issues with the capacitors on some of these, possibly from overheating?

Damn. I didn't check Amazon reviews. I got it from Ebuyer where I'd seen lots of great reviews.
And typically I bought it 15/12/10 so no chance of a replacement easily.

I'm fairly sure its got the latest firmware so maybe its time (once again!) to find a new router. Any suggestions?
