I love spice.... but that much of those things kinda scares me! We've always got hot sauce like Dave's, but thats a lot to be using!

(rather tempted to try this)

I was a little terrified.
But that's one reason I wanted to try it. See these challenges and I had no idea what they are like.

That sort of thing just doesn't appeal to me at all. Eating good food is supposed to be a pleasant experience... Isn't it?? :-\

So is playing games/sport. But people push way beyound the fun limit.

Was interested to see what it was like and how I would react. Certainly not a pleasure eat.

Never heard of competitive eating? ;)

I loved the one where he ate 2.5 huge burgers, a single one would have probably killed me and that would have just been the patty. The buns contained a whole pack of butter

No, actually

Not really sure where you're coming from on the sports thing really Glaucus, unless you mean boxing/fighting for sport... in which case I agree entirely!

To each their own eh? :)

I can see what he means I think ~ he means more like gentle running for fun / vomiting and being in intense physical pain when preparing for a much more physically demanding event like a marathon. :)

It's pushing the limits to see what your body is capable of. I understand to a degree, but having had something hot enough to make my entire face weep I already know how far is too far!

I even remember what it was. About ten years ago Pizza Express did a pizza in their restaurant that had crayfish tails on it - that's the only other thing I can remember about it other than it was hot. I'm sure they used pure chilli sauce of some description on the base instead of tomato, and it had a variety of chillis on it as well. I got through it, but it was a battle. No wonder they stopped doing it, whatever it was.

I understand it, but I do think it's a little OTT - but good on you for trying it, I certainly wouldn't! :p

It's like competing against yourself at the gym or any other sport. I for example push myself so hard that I end up bleeding, in pain, almost to the point where it could be described as sadomasochism, however at the same time the dopamine/endorphin/seratonin release you get is beyond comparison - hence why you do it again and again. This is another reason why I had to stop skydiving, I kept pushing the limits of what was safe just to get a "buzz"...

The thrill of eating that food and the rush afterwards must have been rewarding, but the pain you have to go through first is part of the test.

Exactly this, think of it more as an experiment that a enjoyable meal. Just wanted to do it for ages.

Next up I need to try a 64oz steak with sides. Don't think I would finish that either. Maybe when I'm in America.

I've done a 28oz steak with sides (chips, garlic bread, onion rings) and finished that. that was fun :)

I don't think I could do much more than 40oz, let alone 64!

Hopefully I'll not be as knackered as I am today after work tomorrow so I might give this a go... without the insanity sauce, and I like the look of a nann to put it in!

I went for the 'sane but spicy burger' in the end. I'll make a thread later when I can get my photos uploaded somewhere from my phone.

Ridiculous statement in there... "Unfortunately we have a culture that sees America as the promised land..."
Articles like that & outrage will always follow anything like this. You just have to hope common sense prevails regardless.

In other news, I got a few scotch bonnets in my chilli packets yesterday so going to be making these burgers again :D

I made a (much) more tame version of this last night and it tore my guts out this morning. Absolutely delicious though, quite hot and left me burning, but not ott.

250g lean steak mince
1 tbsp dry breadcrumbs
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Approx 1-2 tsp insanity sauce

This is the first time I've had a hot sauce from capsicum extract. I can take my chilli heat but this is a strange different experience. You get the burn in the mouth but it goes all round the inside of your mouth then ends up all over the outside of your lips and the bottom of your nose. Most strange. I liked it until this morning where there was fire in the hole / that Johnny Cash song / rumble in the jungle / :goatse: etc etc you get the idea ;)

I find insanity sauce odd. I can cope with the sauce for about half a burger. But I just get painfull stomach about two hours after eating it and it lasts a few hours. It's certainly on a different level than any other sauce I've tried.

Anyway sounds much nicer than what I did.
