View Full Version : Cost of tyres
So the car needs new front boots and I got a quick quote off the local Kwikfit on the way home.
£160 a corner for 225/40/18 Conti SC3s! I'm sure the last time I had tyres of this size fitted it was nearer £130 - have prices shot up lately or am I being fleeced? Haven't got round to ringing any other places for quotes yet but will do so tomorrow.
Is there anywhere local that will fit them (for a reasonable price) if you buy them elsewhere and get them delivered? Camskill (http://www.camskill.co.uk/m61b0s134p0/Car_Tyres_-_MPV_Tyres_-_People_Carrier_Tyres_-_18%5C_inch_R18_inch_-_225_40_18_225_40_R_18) seem to have them at a better price 115-120 depending on the speed rating. It's been a long time since I got tyres from anywhere other than Camskill, they're miles cheaper even after adding the cost of fitting.

I used Elite Direct (http://www.elitedirect.com/Tyres-2012/Tyres-By-Size.php?ordertype22=1&saletype22=retail§ion=225&profile=40&rim=18&order=cast%28Fitted+as+DECIMAL%29+ASC&price=Delivered&Submit23=Search+Database+%3E) the last time and they delivered 4 shiny new bits of rubber for me :)
Got them fitted by a local place and all sorted far cheaper than any of the major garages around here

I go to a garage called tyretraders. They are ace, prices are awesome. They have a website and I *think* you can pay the price on the website and have them fitted at a local garage. Or you can get the tyres delivered :)
Thanks all, sounds like ordering myself might be the cheapest option if I can find somewhere that'll fit them. Doubt Kwikfit will be accomodating somehow but I'll have a word with the Plume garage up the road tomorrow :)

I have had a quick look for you on tyretraders. It is £140 ish mobile fitted for the continental tyres, £120ish delivered for a corner. Have you looked into different brands of tyre as well. I know someone who was using a premium brand of tyre (can't remember which one unfortunately) for his Jag and he switched after using them for years to Falken and said they are amazing. They are around £80ish for your tyres. Worth a look :)

Falken FK-452's? :D
(nerd, bored :D)
Take a look at www.event-tyres.co.uk. They come to you to fire them too, highly recommended :)
Ended up getting a pair of Bridgestone Potenzas fitted at the local Plume for £144 each, which didn't seem to bad judging by online prices for the tyres alone.
Regards brands, it's a lease car but not maintained so we have to pay for tyres ourselves, but generally have to stick to the 'approved' shortlist of tyres that the manufacturer fits as standard, which I presume is to stop people fitting something like really soft Yokohamas which wear at a high rate and then handing the car back with bugger all tread left :)
they do look that have gone up, I need 4 new ones and normally pay £1k a set, getting quotes around the £1.2k at the moment :o

Tyres for my RX8 have gone up about £30-50 each in the last year or so.
Still, £800 a set isn't too bad. Will be getting some alloys refurbed at the same time though so lots of nice sparkly new stuff to go on soon. May also get me a discount on the whole bill. :D

It's rare that I've found Camskill not to be the cheapest.

they do come in at £1007 delivered for mine, so I would imagine about £1100 by time I sort fitting

Some places do charge more than they should to fit tyres you bought elsewhere.
Grr.
went to sort these today and ATS were cheapest, £1032 for Michelin PS2s , less that all the web places

Modern addiction with big wheels and low profile tyres really drive up the cost, I only used to pay £250 for a set on my Elise. In comparison my old mkIII Mondeo with unnecessary 17" wheels cost £400.
