View Full Version : Albums you cant get enough of?
I have not long put on an album to listen to. That in itself is something I dont really do (listen to whole albums) but then that train of thought led on to me realising that I listen to this album almost every day, sometimes more than once. I know every single word, every drum stroke and every chord change. I dont skip any tracks either!
Having said that, I have no emotional attachment to this album, I dont even actively like it - if someone asked me what my favourite album was I would probably draw a blank long before this even crossed my mind.
Anyone else come across this? Albums you listen to an awful lot, never tire of but at the same time you dont really rave about?

What albulm is it? Since you never normally rave about it you might as well make an exception now. :) No, I don't normally listen to whole albulms myself unless it is new because every music system I own has a shuffle feature so if I like the song(s) they just get added to the playlist and played in any random order. All that said, Hall & Oates - The Greatest Hits is something I could listen to straight through without interruptions.
There's a few albums I know every word, strum and drum beat to, but I'd rave about any of them. Can't think of anything I know as well as you do without thinking it is ace, especially nothing I listen to almost every day without liking :/

Agreed. I think that theres a clear reason why I listen to some albums day in day out. Simply because I love them.
Orson - Bright Idea
The fact I am going to see them tonight makes it all the better :party2:

Listening to whole albums is something I now prefer to do, but only in the past couple of years or so, since I've really started getting into my live music.

Urban Hymms - The Verve.
2 last Snow Patrol albums.
War of the Worlds.
The album is Coral Fang by The Distillers.
I like the album (else why would I listen to it?), its just not the same feeling as say, me liking Metallica or something like that. Bad wording I guess :p
Thats because we know Metallica suck but I have no idea who the Distillers are. They might suck, but I wouldn't know it without listening to them :p

Oh yeah. There's not many albums I can just put on and enjoy as a whole ensemble but those two are. Bloody brilliant.

I do tend to listen to whole albums - probably because I'm too lazy to make playlists :embarassed:
I normally prefer "Best of..." type albums as I'm more likely to enjoy more of the tracks. One notable exception is "Fresh fruit for rotting vegetables" by the Dead Kennedys. I listen to this on a regular basis and never skip any tracks because they are all good.

Enjoy Eternal Bliss, by Yndi Halda. Since I got it I've listened to it at least five times a week at work. It's awesome. I find it really easy at work to listen to odd tracks all day, keep changing my mind about what I want to listen to, but it's very rare that I put it on and don't take it off again after a little while, I nearly always listen right through.
Don't kill me but i've had Michelle Branch's Debut Album for about 3 years now and I still listen to it about once a week !

Snow Patrol, Muses new one and Keane. I really need to take them out of my car but there's nothing I want to replace them with.

Both Kings of Leon albums
The Fray - How to save a life
Cicada - Cicada
Easily the four albums I can just play right through!!!!!!
Everything else is in playlists.
I have a few favourite albums in my collection that I repeatedly listen to, know through and through chord changes and every note, part etc. etc.
I listen to whole albums 99% of the time, its very rare for me to listen to a compilation. I just don't get on with them, but that is also in part defined by my taste in albums. I've got virtually no 'pop' albums at all, mainly because I like the album to go places, mean something. I'm not a fan of the 3:00 song so glamourised by the pop industry.
That said of all my albums the most played and most memorised ones are:
John Mayer - Room For Squares
Delirious? - Glo
The latter is a superb example of the kind of album I like. Okay, so its a worship album, christian stuff, but there is hardly a track on there that doesn't run into the next track in some way, done in blocks of 3 or 4 tracks at a time. The whole album is a kinda journey, starting off with a quiet choral underpinning before launching into a strong lead guitar part and building up as the song goes on; the album finishes with what they call "Glo In The Dark (Pt 4)", one of several jammed out tracks on the album that includes some superb orchestration including strings, bagpipes, and the works. The Producer really deserves some form of award for the work he's done on the album as its quirky choice of extra instruments to go over the top of the bands standard bass, guitar, keys, and drum just somehow works and has been sensitively mixed.

For me the difinitive album will pretty much always be...
Queen - A Night at the Opera.
I always have to listen to it from the first note to the last.

Urban Hymms - The Verve.
Awesome album :)
PeterNem just reminded me of one. Jose Gonzalez - Veneer
Battle of Mice - A Day of Nights
Blueprint - 1988
Opeth - Blackwater Park.
Yes, it's a death metal album which will instantly make people spout that it's rubbish but IMO it is the best album I've ever heard. The tracks range from the savage 'The Funeral Portrait' to the divine 'Harvest' which proves that this band are about more than screaming and shouting 'DEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATH!"
Hearing the album performed live on several occasions only went to further cement it as my favourite album.
