laguna Tdi 1.9 initiale diesel estate - opinions

Looking at a 2003 edition of one of these tomorrow. Its a bit sporty - full leather interior, sat nav etc and the asking price is £1700.

Its got decent mpg, tax and insurance isnt too bad.

Only thing is the mileage that is 130k but it looks tidy from photos and belongs to one of jo`s friends, so we know yhe history. Just been serviced, got 5 months tax and mot.

Basically I want to know if a 130k mileage Renault should immediately be disregarded? Cars seem to be slim pickings at the moment!

They are having a bit of a laugh with that price though surely? I would have said a lot closer to 1k, under with cash on the bonnet!

I would have said a petrol mondeo estate would be a better shout. Less to go wrong if you are looking at spending that.

Actually 2004 Skoda Octavia estates with 100k with Tax and ticket are on autotrader for £1500.

Road trip to get one? A couple of day trips out and a couple of tanks of fuel would probably be worth it. I've always ended up travelling to get my cars.

If im honest a fabia or octavia estate would be my first choice, but there aren't any locally and im ashamed to say I dont think I can spend tge time driving yo check out cars with work starting again and prep for baby p on the way.

Gonna get mechanic family friend to check over the Renault tomorrow and if I can knock it down a lot then I may play the gamble... thanks for the advice mate - I promise its not fallen on deaf ears!

Ok, I can see your reasons.

Since this is a common rail engine I would ask if the dual mass flywheel has been done. Most go at around 100-120k ish. On the mondeo it would have been £800 or so as you would do the clutch at the same time.

The injectors are another issue around that mileage. I've had a look and it appears that you can get a set of 4 for £120. But you have to add labour & matching the injectors to the engine.

We're not getting the laguna :p.

We have, however, found an 06 plate 1.2 fabia hatchback that we are going to go for for the tidy sum of 1, 295 (including 700 px on my clio).

Its obviously not a big estate car and its a measly 54 bhp, but its in excellent cobdition despite 105k on the clock. Jo's mechanic friend has given thumbs up too. 11 months mot and tax and 3 months warranty. We wont get a better deal than that seeing as the clio has 1 month tax and mot left!

That's actually a good deal! Just checked and it is based on the Polo platform. At that price who cares its a 1.2? Good A -> B car :)

It means I avoid the inevitable mot fail and road tax comming up next month, and new tyres due soon on the clio, so I figure thats £200 ive saved in addition. In effect, the car is a grand by my maths :p

So relieved to have found a car thats nice to drive and that ill have faith in!

My 1.2 is pretty nippy :) Feels much more responsive than the corsa I used to have. Good find :)

My Renault's dual mass flywheel needed replacing by 75k :-(
