We have a new laptop and i'm after a tray which it can be placed on so our legs dont get cooked when using it. Obviously it needs to be non slip and fairly confortable. A little extension to use a mouse on would be a nice addition too. I've seen a load of them with fans in which plug into a usb port but i'd rather have a passive one, just something that creates some airflow underneath should be fine. Anyone know where i could get one?

Spot on lol, been looking for ages and had no luck.

EDIT

Actually something that looks a bit nicer would be good. Needs to support a 17" widescreen laptop.

Mouse extension is now surplus, it would poke into the side of the sofa.

You mean the ones with the beanbags underneath? They're good. Thinking about one of those myself. :)

I tried one of those breakfast tray with a beanbag underneath, its ok for the first hour but soon the heat builts up. The polystylrene acts like a insulation and the heat just stays at the bottom of the tray. If anything, a Large Baking tray works better.

I have one of these

works fine, usb powered with piggy back so you don't lose a usb port. Cheaper at Ebuyer actually

This is a different style one

don't plug it in :p The aluminium will still acts as a conductor, especially the Akasa one.

I have the Akasa one, and it's designed for use on a desk. Fine for that, but a thoroughly bad idea for use on the lap. I'd say the same for the other one as well.

The Port one I suggested is designed for on-lap use (I have one too, though I've had little use for it). It may look fugly, but it's made for the job. The bit that sticks out for the mouse folds in if you don't want it (though that does remove some of the cooling benefit).

Fair comment about the plastic/beanbag ones. You could have a heat issue there. :(

Does the port one have any padding on the underside?

Mark

Not much. It's more non-slip than padded. At least it's smooth, unlike the underside of the average laptop. As mentioned above, padding can act as a heat trap (but then so can your legs).

or go overboard and combine a laptop cooler with a breakfast tray.

Watercooled beanbag tray mod anyone?
