View Full Version : Would you buy these photos?
The big question here is that if you were a footy fan, and these were your grounds would you be interested in buying an A3 print for £50? :) I've been asked to make 12 stunning shots of Liverpool including the two clubs. Now outside the two clubs is just THE worst architecture ever. I've got to enquire about getting permission to shoot inside. If I could get inside and do some HDR's in there I'd be sorted. For now I'm going with outside as its public ground so fair game in theory.

Personally? No, I hate football with a passion ;)
But I think my dad would, he supports the Stags (Mansfield Town) If you're a die hard fan, £50 for an A3 shot, done as well as they are, is worth it :)
I would if I supported a team :) They look really good to me.

I don't think I'd pay as much as that for a photo of my team's ground (Celtic) but then I'm not as fanatical as some.
I would consider buying one of the monochrome shots if the banners were photoshopped out (why do people insist on marring beautiful buildings with tawdry advertising banners? ).
Stan :)
I hate football so I wouldn't - but the pictures do look pretty fab.

Yeah annoyingly its the wrong time to take those shots I guess. The Biennial is on and buildings have ads on them for it. I'm not sure if they can be photoshopped out as they are quite prominent :(

That is the problem I have too. Taking great pictures of something I really don't like isn't exactly easy when the place is horrible.

I do have a suggestion
I really like the fact that you have chosen the gates and the entrances to the stadium, I would think (I'm not a football fan btw) that these are almost like religious icons to the fans, as the either walk through them with pride every week or dream of doing so. Maybe you could play a little more on these? I like the style though and as you say you have made the best of some pretty poor architecture :)

Thats pretty much what I was thinking too. I loved the way Evertons were painted in blue but the thing is the surrounding area is just a hell hole. Its tricky to get a decent shot without cars in, or the run down housing estates. Just behind the Liverpool gate is the tourist shop, which isn't exactly what I wanted in the shot :)
Yes I guess the more passionate you are about something the more you can get engrossed in the picture taking and also maybe think of shots that would never strike you originally. Maybe if you can take some of inside the ground that might help you get some more shots. I like a few of the entrance shots.

nice shots, personally i wouldn't buy the toffie ones :p the LFC one is very nice. The area around Anfield isn't too bad to shoot, but yes Goodison is rather manky , drive past every day.
EDIT: another suggestion would be if you could get a ticket and go on match day, not sure what it's like inside Goodison but pictures of the Kop with the banners would be awesome.

I think there is legal issues relating to selling any photos taken inside. Plus I only have a week or so left and the weather isn't playing nice. When I got to Anfield there was already a police car there and half the houses were bordered up saying "No gas/elec."

Using HDR I can really bring out the sky. Makes things look much more powerful.

Hmmm round the anfield road end is ok the Kop end though is another matter.
Another good angle might be the Hillsboro' flame next to the gates.
Personally though, I'd buy the one of the Shankly gates.
Oh and Peter, youstolemyname 'over there' is Head of Marketing/Media or something at LFC, he might be able to get you permission to get inside? If not, I have some media contacts you might be able to use. Just a thought :)
Ooh anything you could do would be greatly appreciated. I didn't see any Hillsboro thing when I was there. I'll check tomorrow as I've got a shoot todo so I'll pass by and take another look.
OK, from where you were at those gates go directly to the other end (walk around the side of the ground to the right of the paisley gates, through where the cars are parked and you'll come around the corner on the left of this picture). That's the Shankly gates and the hillsborough memorial (to the left of the gates in this picture). I'll see if I can get a response from anyone today, but it'll have to be via email so I can't promise :)
Gawd it looks even more dull from that angle :) Why didn't they make it look nice from the outside? :( Worth a go I guess. Anything you can do will be great thanks :)
ok i've sent a couple of emails, just got to wait now. Knowing what they're like, they probably won't even bother replying :(
Still, worth a try :D
I know that feeling :) I've emailed youstolemyname. Thanks again :) I owe you a pint or summin :D
Ok some updates from match day. Some crazy angles to hide the over flowing bins and to fit everything in.

Those are my favourites so far. Im not a football fan by any means, but they are very good photos. Especially considering the architecture is far from flattering.

Liking those two a lot. The Liver building one reminds me of drunken student antics in Liverpool!

It does? Wow I should drink more then ;)
How about a challenge of both your photographic and photochop skills? Make London Road (Peterborough United's ground) look half decent! :D

Sindy is Mohinder's lady ;)
I like this one, though personally I think it would look better if the black around the edge was feathered out a bit more.
Wow I'm not a footy fan either but some of those shots are amazing Pete :)

Me too Lynnie. I used to work in Concourse House (the really tall building on lime street opposite St Georges Hall if you don't know it). We were on floor 9 and I worked nights - I could lose hours just gazing at the scenery, it was amazing all lit up.
Gah: This is Kitten by the way :D
Awesome :D I do feel like I nailed the Liverpool themed photo but the Everton one was in such a tight spot between 2 fences that I just couldn't do anything with it. Ah well, maybe its because I was a Liverpool fan as a kid ;)
I'd buy this (http://petemc.net/wp-content/uploads/2006/10/IMG_8116-66_4-64_5-65.jpg) if I was a pink n white fan :)

You mean because its not red enough or because Liverpool are girls? :) That one isn't actually being sold on the site. I sold my first yesterday which was the Chinese Gateway.
Those are brilliant mate! If you could produce Ashton Gate (Bristol City) like that, I'd have a serious think!

I cant help you with those images, I dont do poofball in this house.
The images themselves are great!
Hehe :D I don't do footy either so it was a challenge. Thankfully when I was there on a match day everyone swarmed around Bill Shankly and it was clear just how important he was to the fans. So while I don't really watch the game I can appreciate how much things mean to people and to try and convey that for them.
News just in. Both Liverpool and Everton have expressed an interest in hanging 4 shots in their players lounge. I'm guessing thats some s****y lounge for people with much mullah. The Anglican cathedral have also expressed an interest in the ones of their building for sale in their gift shop. *jigs*
That's great news!
That's excellent, well done :)

Very good, i think they are cheap but perhaps you should shoot a selection of premiership clubs. They would sell.
If you ever take a shot of St James Park I'd buy 1 off you dude those pics above are ace :)
/me notes :) Ty glad you like them.
