View Full Version : Delta fans are lethal - with video

There was a thread in "the other place" recently regarding the destructive potential of Delta fans. Evidence was requested to prove or disprove that these monsters can cause physical injury.
Nobody else seemed willing to step up to the mark so, since I happened to have one lying around, I decided it was up to me to lead the way.
The beast in question is a 120mm Delta and was tested on the following:
1 Mushroom
1 Broccoli floret
1 Sugar snap pea
1 Carrot
1 Frankfurter
1 Left index finger

The damage to the finger:

The conclusion:
These things are f***ing dangerous - don't stick your fingers in them ;D

Jesus

I used to have an 80mm Delta (think I still do somewhere).
It inspired my A-Level electronics project actually (pulse width modulated fan speed controller with the mark:space ratio determined by a temperature sensor) as it was so damn noisy.
I was never stupid (sorry!) enough to stick my finger in it, but I can well imagine the destructive potential!
If mine gets anywhere near a molex, it gets 120mm fan guards both sides first.
I still want to try and turn it into a hovercraft though. ;D

I was nearly sober when I did it.

Just watched the video and quite litterally LOL'd particularly at the carrot and frankfurter. After seeing how easilly it got through the carrot I'd have not wanted any of my appendages anyway near it!!
ok, the video finally loaded.
You put your finger in there after seeing what it had done to the rest of those things???
I think you've just redefined 'stupid' ;)

I wish I'd thought about it a bit before I did it and used a different finger :embarassed:
It's quite painful now and is making gaming a little difficult - strafing right is a bloody nightmare :(
Stan :)
Always use a non vital finger :p

As in not the (w)hole finger? :D
Stan :)
;D
Well I'd use my little finger if I had to :p Don't need it for much :D
You should have had little stan stick his head in there to see what it's like.

That's scary! The amount of times I've stuck a finger in a fan.... Then again I am indestructible :)

What really concerns me is why does a single guy have Broccoli in their house?

I'm having cabbage too (and sugar snap peas) - my 3 favourite vegetables.
Sunday lunch has turned into sunday tea due to me being hungover at lunchtime :embarassed:

Hangovers are acceptable excuses - before he left for work Mic told me off as I've forgotten to eat at all today as I've been engrossed in a book :embarassed: Just cooking something now :embarassed:

I was lucky enough to be at home for parent's Sunday roast lunch today (convenient timing on my part ;)). What's more, I've bought a plate full back home with me so I can cook a couple of chicken breasts tomorrow night and enjoy it all over again!

Don't do that again Stan, next time you may have to change your phone number.
Due to a missing digit.
Baddum tish.
Don't hold it in, I know you're all laughing hysterically.

Youch.
Having got 2 120mm 38mm deep Delta's I have a very good idea about how dangerous they are - caught a knuckle from time to time.
They now have fan guards on them.
Still - intentionally putting your finger in...
OMG!!! Stan, Stan - Huddy's hacked your account! ;D
Nah, Stan did it deliberately. Huddy would do it by accident. However, both would tell us about it. ;D

Nice keyboard btw.
I don't like it. I've never got on with it - which is why it's been demoted to the "guest PC" in the kitchen. It has detachable keys which you can replace with "gaming keys" which never worked the way they should.
I much prefer the G15 I got to replace it - lovely keyboard
Whilst we're on the subject (and completely off topic :D ), my favourite keyboard is this one:
http://www.twobeds.com/upload/./userfiles/Bigstan/BD/Keyboard.jpg
The Enermax Aurora. It is brushed Aluminium; it is sleek and elegant and the keys are a delight to use. It has audio and microphone sockets so I can connect my speakers and microphone directly to it - it also has two USB ports on the back. It's not the best for gaming but for general purpose use, I would recommend it to anyone :)
Stan :)
PS: My finger is healing nicely now and will not be going anywhere near a Delta again :D

lmao stan
you loon :p
Those things should come with a health warning.
I understand in principle you may decide to test it on a number of items, including your finger.
But surely after witnessing said fan destroying a carrot about as effectively as an electric sander you would re-think this theory?
Holy necroposting batman!

LOL I have a few delta fans around.. I had 4 in one case once.. damn noisy or what !!
I remember having one of the 60mm focussed flow Deltas, which were slightly taller than the standard fans.
That was scary
