I had a domain for about 5 years, it expired and because it was bought through a friend of a friend of a friend it wasn't renewed this year as I lost contact with them.

I've been keeping an eye on it waiting for it to fully expire, it's been a week or so since I checked and I just checked and it's been taken.

This domain is of no use to anybody whatsoever except me. The only reason it can have been registered is to try and make money out of it.

Do I have any right to this domain?

The domain is mb7uiv.co.uk. The mb7uiv is a radio callsign issued to me and me alone and can be of no use to anybody else, it's exclusively mine.

I'm really pissed off about this. I want my damn domain back :(

Edit: misread the domain name. Re-checking.

You could go through the Nominet dispute procedure, but unless you can show a very good reason, I doubt you'd have a leg to stand on, especially as you're not the original owner of the domain.

Money-grabbers. Really annoy me. I'm glad I managed to snipe a domain under similar circumstances before they got it.

PS - if you can live with the change, mb7uiv.me.uk is free.

Well the original domain was registered against my name.

And I wonder what is 'very good reason'. I operate the first licenced UK<>Internet amateur radio gateway, with the callsign mb7uiv issued on behalf of the DTI. It means nothing else to anyone on the planet.

My name was against the original domain.

I'm really really annoyed....

I've been through the nominet site and I have a valid complaint. I've used the contact form on the site that's there to ask for them to transfer ownership, quoting nominet policy and explaining which bits of it they've broken.

I have documentary proof of the callsign. It's mine. I will get it.

Good luck getting it sorted.

I seem to remember saying that I'd put a domain renewal on my credit card for you as you were having problems finding a company who would take paypal. Did you get it sorted or is this the domain in question?

Nice one - Nominet are quite nice people, we're lucky to have them - good luck :)

Also - I take Paypal for domains :)

I did find one burbs, but it was quite expensive.

This all started today because I started writing a thread on here to ask if anyone could do .co.uk registrations, I went to check my old one (which I've been doing every week or so) to find it re-registered.

Hence thread content deletion and re-write as you see here.

Beaners, I'll bear that in mind :)

I don't mind doing them at cost either, though I'd imagine Beansprout probably has a cheaper option up his sleeve. :)

I offer them at £6.99 for a standard 2-year registration, which after transaction fees is pretty much cost price...offhand I'm not sure of anyone doing below-cost-price (£5 + VAT) selling and who accept Paypal :(

Do you have your own DNS nameservers? If not, use the vidahost defaults. The domains can easily be set up how you want. Just PM Beansprout with where you want them pointed.

Edit (too slow) - checked the registrarion and the nameservers. All looks good. :)

Aye, it's just a matter of time now until my crappy out of date website comes back to life :)

Doesn't look like it'll take too long, not many have you cached so their servers would all go to the uk authoritative, then on to Beany's DNS servers.

It's already live here

It was probably the words 'nominet' and 'department of trade and industry' that persuaded them :)

This is what I wrote..
Good afternoon.

I am the previous holder of the mb7uiv.co.uk domain name, the domain was registered to myself via a friend of a friend who I recently lost contact with so was unable to renew it after it very recently expired.
Today I went to re-register the domain to myself to find that your company have registered this domain.

I own and operate the MB7UIV Amateur Radio to Internet gateway, this was the first licenced gateway of it's kind in the UK and was licenced by the Radio Society of Great Britain on behalf of the Department of Trade and Industry.

There can be no other legitimate use for this domain name apart from the site supporting my gateway.

I am requesting that this domain name ownership be passed to myself as you have no grounds for ownership.

If this does not happen I will be filing a claim with Nominet UK under the 'Abusive Registration' policy, for the following reasons.

"An Abusive Registration is one which, by its use or by its very existence, has caused the complainant unfair detriment or has given the registrant an unfair advantage."

You have no use for the domain name, I previously owned it and your ownership has caused me unfair detriment.

Because mb7uiv is specifically linked to myself, I also believe that the following is effective.

"b) Has the domain name been registered with the primary purpose of stopping you from using it?"

Yes. There could be no other reason for yourselves to register the mb7uiv.co.uk domain.

I am happy to pay for the domain, but not more than the standard domain registration fee. If you attempt to extract more than that fee then you also breach the Abusive Registration terms thus:

"a) Has the Respondent offered to sell the domain name(s) for more than the Respondent paid for it? "

I look forward to hearing from you.

Lots of love.

Feek
