Well this current spat of hot weather has once again perturbed my poor little rig :'(
Hopefully in a few weeks after a rebuild then I can get her running at an acceptable temperature again, however any advice on hor to get the core temp down would be handy.
Current setup...
Abit nf7-s rev 2.0
Athlon XP 3000+ Barton Core
1.5GB PC3200
ATI Radeon 256MB Sapphire 9800 pro Ultimate Edition / Digimate 1715 LCD / Compaq S700
200GB SATA 150 Seagate HDD
120GB ATA 133 Seagate HDD
Creative Inspire P580 5.1 Speakers
NEC ND 3500a DVD-RW
Thermaltake Volcano 12 HS/F
Thermaltake Xaser III Lanfire VM1000a
Akasa Ultra Quiet 400W Paxpower Active PFC ATX2.0 PSU - Black Nickel
2x90mm fans
2x80mm fans
She's running at about 60 degrees with all the fans maxed, hopefully a nice bit of a clean and a reapplication of arctic silver (after carefully cleaning the core and HS) will get her back down to a reasonable level but if anyone has any suggestions (and nothing silly) then that'd be much appreciated :)

Not much else, except make sure all the fans/grilles are clean and dust free.
If it still runs hot then either get a better cooler (never used a Volcano so I don't know how effective they are), maybe an Si120 or an Arctic Freezer 64 Pro.
I'm actually running one of mine with the side off and a deskfan blowing directly on the mobo and HS/F so that I can keep the overclock as high as possible for a folding competition :D

I think it's just dust and accumulated grime mostly (curse my ability to smoke sat at my desk)...
Used to run the fan silent and it'd stay below 50 degrees under load...
Ah well, I have an entire week off to get a second TFT to replace the compaq, dismantle, clean, reassemble, blat....
Bet the weather turns freezing before then :(

Dust can be a killer for PCs, it's amazing how much can accumulate on a fan which spins so quickly :-?
Smoke doesn't help much either - I know this from bitter experience ::)

like you, my main 4400+ rig at home which is used for F@H has been getting a bit warm to say the least.
So i've had it off (ehmm) during the day.. just as prevention.
I have been keeping a large fan in the room which blows the hot ait out in the hallway and i've been keeping a window open so at least the room is drawing fresh air.. However, you can get cheap Air Conditioning unit from B&Q now. they would be ideal.
You might consider this a bit extreme but I have done this to lower the core temperatures in the past.
Go to b&q and get a small tumble drier extension hose (has about an 80mm diameter)
Cut a hole in the side of the case positioned over the cpu and feed the hose through
Attach an 80mm fan to the end of the extension hose and point at the cpu fan.
Voila an external cool air feed directly to your cpu.
As I said, if a little extreme for you, clean the cpu heatsink and reseat. Then give all the case fans a good clean. Also if the fans are covered by a grill, remove the grills or cut them out of the case as this will make quite a difference

and the results!
Well, I removed about a ton of dust and crap from the fans and fan grills, regreased and reseated the HS/F (after cleaning more crap out of it than you can imagine, using a toothbrush :p) put it all back together and...
She's now running at 53degrees silent and it's already pretty damn warm in London, I may have to increase the HS/F speed a bit later whn it gets hotter, but it's all good.
Second TFT was ordered about half an hour ago for delivery tomorrow (£111.51 inc delivery, which made Feek cringe), I shall take some pretty pictures once the second TFT is sorted :D
If you're not overclocked you can always go in the other direction and drop the CPU voltage a touch whilst retaining stock speed.

^^^ nice dual monitor too ;)
Why don't you customise the case and put a couple 120mm fans and get rid of those 80mm ones..

Two of them are 90mm, and at the moment it's fairly silent and keeps to a decent temperature under load...
It's Irn bru Daz you numpty...
*dreams of Magners.... e-mails flat mate to get some on the way home*
Dual monitors rock. I had to buy a bigger desk after adding another 24" monitor to my setup :/
Dual monitors do indeed rock - though 48" of desktop is pretty hardcore  Got 2 at work and 2 at home myself :)

^ Just after I mounted them a while ago. Desk is a lot better now :p
^^ 48" desktop?
How jealous am I?

It is an old pic. The desk has been replaced as have the standard Dell monitor stands with Ergotron Neo-Flexes. There is also a Mac Mini and external HD underneath the monitor. The control unit for the speakers is next to the Mac
Wow that looks fantastic!
It is quite nice :) Working on a single 17" TFT at work is a real struggle, but not as bad as having to use the 12" TFT on the laptop when I'm travelling.
