Well just had my Polo dump all the power steering fluid all over our road :(
Found out where the leak is and am currently trying to find the part.

Bumma.
Don't forget when you top it up to turn the wheel Full lock left and full lock right a few times.
Hopefully it'll just be a pipe on your rack that can be replaced easily rather than the whole rack knackered. With even more luck it may be up at the power steering pump end.
Good luck it's a messy messy job.
Personal note.
I like messy jobs which i find a bit strange, must be the Gypo in me. ;D

Well after some discussion with VW it looks like it's the pipe to the rack as I can see it dripping and is going to cost around £80 inc VAT. Just got a mate coming round in a couple of hours to see if we can do it ourselves.

No biggy then it'll just be down to whether or not you can access the pipe with the car on the ground/jacked. Being a Polo you should be able to virtually turn it over with a jack and get it high enouth to do anything you like with it.
Malcs Golden rule though is Block the car up. Block the wheels front and back with bricks and use axle stands or appropriate proppage. (made up word proppage but i like it)

from poking my head in the bay we can get access to both ends of the pipes :D

Well all is sorted now after purchasing the wrong part as I couldn't see the pipes switched positions under the battery :(
Anyway £140 later I now have a drivable car again \o/ and significantly cheaper than taking it to a garage to do. So if anyone needs help changing power steering pipes on a polo I'm your man :D
I need a service doing on my Golf.. how are you fixed? :)

Well I'm only up to power steering, brakes and stuff. What needs doing? I've actually been lakky to my mate Tony, he does most of the work :D
Stuff needs doing. Brakes and power steering are fine though :)
I really must phone the mechanic and get him out to do it, the 'BEEEEEEEEEEEEP' I get every time I start the car is becoming a little tiresome now.

Ah well I'm going to be doing a service on my Polo in the near future just can't afford all the parts just yet. Infact need to get myself a haynes manual so I can get the right fluid etc
I could do the service myself, it's just oil, filters and so on that need changing but when I can get someone to come to my house (or the office) and do it for the price of the parts plus £40 I'm less inclined to mess about in the cold getting covered in oil.
Actually, it needs new brake fluid and I absolutely hate bleeding brakes so no way I'm going to do that myself.
