Well over the next week I shall be getting:

Intel Conroe E6300
1gb geil PC6400 (getting another gig just before jan)
gigabyte DS3

Moving from:

AMD SKT754 3700
2gb geil
abit nv8

It's costing me about £166. I've never had intel, so I hope the move goes smoothly. Basically my current motherboard has a cold boot issue (permanently) and as Abit don't make it anymore it would take about 1-2 weeks to get sorted. This made me think; I'll sell my current stuff while it's still worth something and get a nice upgrade. Hopefully it'll be quick and stable (I plan to OC it).

I have an identical rig - it's great for overclocking - mine is currently at 3.15GHz (450x7) - that's a 69% overclock at stock volts
It's actually RAM limited at the moment (some people have got the Geil RAM to run at up to 1000MHz but mine won't do above 920 :( ).

If you get the Geil and want another 1Gb then give me a shout as I want to upgrade to faster stuff to see how fast I can get it (mine's the CAS4 low latency stuff).

Coupled with a decent PSU and a decent GFX card, you'll have a cracking machine.

My PSU is an antec neopower 480/X1800XT. I'm hoping for 2.5ghz with stock volts/cpu cooler. I'm looking to get the ram just after christmas/before january. If you still have it I shall come your way :D

I can see you've decided what to do, but your rig is more than capable surely, just grab a second hand mobo for <£50 and everything is sorted! The conroe stuff is meant to go like **** off a shovel, but I don't know if i could pay £166 for that upgrade what do you want to do that it can't do now?

I was going to go conroe anyway, after christmas. The fact is doing it now gets me more return from my old kit.
