View Full Version : Anyone have non-critical but spam-receiving e-mail accounts?

I'm about to trial some new spam-fighting techniques for my company's servers, and I'd like to get some folk using the system to see how well it works....essentially your domain's e-mail would need pointing to my testing server for it to chug through it.

Messages shouldn't get eaten, but they may - so I'm only looking for people who won't kill me if I lose an important e-mail :)

I have a few accounts lying around which I don't really use for anything important, but which seem to get a ton of spam - those are the sort that I'm looking for, really - though the Holy Grail would be to find people with 'normal' accounts, which receive a mixture of spam and legit e-mail, who're willing to help out :)

I'll need to throw a few thousand e-mails at it - basically the more the better - and will probably test/fiddle for upto a week (though of course if it's being really bumpy and you need your e-mail account back, you can :))

Thanks to anyone who is able and willing to help out...I'll think of a thank you :)

I've just got a hotmail account for all my spam - don't think that'll be much help :(

Hmm, Gmail can forward on e-mail but I'm not sure if Hotmail will..same here :(

Edit: Hmm, we reckon that forwarded e-mail might not work - since Spamassassin wouldn't recognise it as spam due to the altered headers/source. That said, SA is only one tool in my arsenal - I have some which auto-learn about spam from e-mail content - so it's worth a shot I reckon :)

If Gmail will work, how about setting one up just for this?

Ah I have a gMail account but it doesn't really get that much spam. I'll be using it, though :)

Meant we could set one up especially, sign it up to loads of crap and it won't matter what gets deleted :)

Genius :D

Group spammage! I knew BD was into 'group stuff' ;)

My Hotmail account is still besieged from years ago when it was victim to a game among me and my friends....I think they still get more than me, though :D

And just incase forwarded e-mail doesn't work (or doesn't work as well as we hope), spam@twobeds.com can also be used :)

I have an account I set up for my dad a while back that he never used, only thing is, all it really gets is spam but I could always forward a copy of everything from my main account to it - that way it would get all my legitimate mail plus the spam from both accounts.

I was going to delete that account anyway but I can keep it open for the time being to help you out.

Let me know if you can use the account.

Stan :)

I should be starting my fiddling tomorrow afternoon (need to get the srever setup first), so I'll get in touch :)

My other place email gets spammed to death and I very rarely get much of importance in it, so that's an option.

otacon@dwuk.net would be a good one to use if you're not already. Wouldn't mind you using daz@ either tbh.

I need spam sending to one of my accounts so I can get some more learning done.

Sign up spam@feek.co.uk to whatever's likely to generate spam please :)

oo, will do :)

Also incase anyone's interested...my new anti-spam system is being setup this weekend and it's going to rock :)

Careful with redirecting your spam email address - that has legit email mixed in (however little legit email that is).

He's got all the catch-all accounts from my various domains. Guaranteed 100% bona fide spam (well, unless someone misspells my email address, and then I wouldn't read it anyway). That'll bring in just a few. :)

I hope so :) Spamassasin has done pretty well, but the past couple of weeks have been mental. This week in particular has been pretty awful :/

Aye, the last thing I want is the chance that there could be legit stuff in there, I just want blanket spam that I can dump into the spam learning folder without having to check it.

Unfortunately so. I'm going to shove all my emails through the anti spam filters at work which should help a bit.

Aye :/

I think I was deleting spam e-mails every 5 minutes yesterday :s

Piping all this through to the new system and it's not missing many :)

My spam catcher has been as good as ever (it'll miss the odd one or two now and then, but it's better than most). Well worth the $2.99/mo (discounted for life 'early adopter' rate). :)
