Absolutely stunning. From what they were saying on the TV its something that rumours are he'd achieved once on his training grounds but failed on all other attempts.. nutcase. Absolute nutcase.

He doesn't even look like he's riding that hard or fast towards the ramp!

Amazing stuff, I'd never have the guts to do that... well maybe i would... but nah I wouldn't...

Not knowing anything about this I might be about to look stupid, but is that really hard? BMXers seem to do stuff like that under their own steam?

Balance, poise, balls... Whether on a motorbike or a pushbike it's damn impressive...

Remember that whilst the bike he's on is providing the power it weighs a helluva lot more than a BMX...

That was very impressive :) I do like watching all that sort of thing. The guys that do it on snow and ice are the real loons though. :)

It's impressive whatever it's done on :D
As Dym said, whilst he's got the motor behind him, he's also got to control quite a bit of weight.

Extremely hard, and not just that, the landing is superb. He would have won even if he'd come down rear wheel first, or front wheel first, but to land bang on together is just incredible and probably more fluke than skill! Like with high-dive the whole move is scored by a series of judges with points awarded for stuff like technical difficulty, precision, flair and landing. You can pull the best stunts in the world off in the air but enough you don't land smoothly you'll lose points.
Apparently several moto-heads have attempted this trick before; but Travis Pastrana is the first one to ever succeed at it in a competition, and somehow he's not only done that but made it look like a walk in a park.

Tony Hawk's world first of a Melon 900 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Oos04Zi_Ls) looks harder to the casual observer, but you can see from the clip that Tony nearly failed to pull it off.. again its a stunt he'd been rumoured to have been working on and landed a couple of times on his training course, but it had never been seen in public.

There's a lot of skill with getting the momentum right and keeping it up. It's impressive either way.

Wow is about all I can say to that, I prefer watching MTBs for tricks generally as although they can't go as big and some of the tricks can't be copied from the motorcrossers I know more about it and to do it solely under your own power impresses me immensely. The landing by Pastrana is stunning, I could almost bet that even if he does the trick another hundred times he will never nail it quite so sweetly again. :)

Yeah, that's ****ing hard. It's a 120 kilo motorbike, not a pushbike - it takes a massive amount of skill, throttle control, and mostly commitment to do. Those 250s are snappy as **** too, they'll rip your arms off soon as look at you.

Mostly, even more so than the talent, it's commitment and brass balls that allows them to do it.

And that's for one... being able to get the rotation so perfect when all that's actually driving the bike around is the rotation of the rear wheel.. it's incredible.

I personally find this more impressive - it's the most amazed I've ever been at an MX trick.

:jawdrop: is right, my friend :D

Travis has been trying something similar but rotating on the other axis - he's not been trying to barrel roll, he's been trying to 360 sideways and get back on the bike. Last time I saw video of him attempting it he bounced off the landing and into a tree :D

I thought a double backflip was impressive but that is just taking the urine. Cojones the size of small planets there.
