View Full Version : X-Box 360 deals
No, i'm not definitely buying one yet before you get excited Durz :p
But I am having a look around. It's pay day next week and I'm hoping to make another £200 or so in the next week by selling a phone (No I didn't nick it from work :p) so I am tempted.
Anyway, any good deals anyone has seen for a 360? I saw the other day in Gamestation they had second hand 360s with a HD (Think they were cores but the HD thrown in which is the main thing I want from a Premium anyway) plus 2 games for £289 which seemed pretty good.
But is there anything better about that I haven't seen?
I know ebay have some going but i'm wary of getting second hand from a source like that in case it goes wrong. I figure at least if it went wrong and I bought it 2nd hand from Gamestation I'd still be able to get it replaced (I think)?
Do I get shot for bumping? :p
We don't have a gun smilie, so I guess you're ok :)
I'm also on the lookout for a 360, but I've not seen any deals that make want to open my wallet.

Mine was £320 in Gameplay with some football game which they swaped for Oblivion, in all honesty I'm not using it or my PSP enough to warrent me keeping them at the moment, I only got the 360 because it ment I didn't have to upgrade the PC which I figured was why I wasn't playing many games but it would seem that that wasn't the case and I only play the occational game.

Good point, MB. Sitting gathering dust in the spare room I've got:
PS2
Xbox
PSP
DS
Gamecube
GBA
Megadrive
SNES
I don't actually play that many games, and those that I do are best played on the PC.

I have a PS2 sitting in the corner of my bedroom gathering dust.
I was intending to upgrade to a PS3 when they came out but like Mr Floppy, what little gaming I do is done on the PC so the expense would hardly be justifiable.
For the price those things are going to be, I could build another Folding rig :D
Stan:)
DO NOT buy a core under ANY circumstances - even if they throw the HD in. It just isnt worth it. Premium all the way.
I would be extremely wary of buying one used at the moment as well. In fact, it just isnt a thought I would entertain at all.
The best way of doing it is to trade in stuff you arent using for the 360 in somewhere like Game and get a Game card (if you havnt done so already). You can then use the game points the next day to buy other things that you really need to buy (play and charge kit, possibly a memory card if you have mates with 360s, wireless LAN card).
How true the first line of your post was as well :( You know me better than I thought ;)
Er why isn't the core worth it when it's got a hd?
I don't need the cable, I'm not bothered about a wireless controller and i have plenty of spare ethernet cable :p
Not got anything I want to trade in that won't get more than £2 so I'm not going to do that.

Wireless controllers are amazing :) You also get xbl gold for a month and silver free which is the best part of the console.
The wireless controller is the best thing ever though, it really is.
EDIT: I have just looked at the prices you gave in post #1 and, well, thats pretty good apart from the fact they are s/h :(
EDIT 2:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0007SV72A/202-9601087-2593410?v=glance&n=300703 - £275 for the premium straight from Amazon. No games though, but its new and that has to be a load off your mind when buying :) Can always get preowned games etc.
You seem to get silver free anyway with the cores :p
And really not bothered about wireless controllers especially not for an extra £50 which it'd work out as! I've used them and they're great, but not £50 great :p
For £275 new I'm not buying it for that much with no games. I'll wait for Xmas in that case.
Re second hand though I'll nip in gamestation and see what kind of warranty comes with the second hand stuff.
Well I've got an extra £250 I didn't expect to have.....but I've also spent half the day working out how large a loan I have to take out for when I move. So this will require a lot of sensible thought :(
Hmm mate of mine that works for Gamestation has just told me their second hand 360s do come with a 12 month warranty so that's still a possibility.
But still back to the whether I should actually spend it, hate being sensible :D
If your mate works there, why not ask how much he can get knocked off first... then decide?
Nah can't do that sadly.....well unless I go to the middle of nowhere in Cumbria to buy it from where he works but I think the petrol costs would outweigh the benefits :p
Hmm good point.
I've not really got anything of real worth :/
Console wise I own atm:
DS Lite (Not selling that)
X-Box (Not selling that because I've got a pile of games not compatible with the 360 yet)
PS2 (only thing I'm keeping it for is FF10 otherwise that could go)
PS1 (Erm, would I actually get anything for that? Lol)
Megadrive (keeping)
Game wise I've got a few that could go, got 6 PS2 games that could go because I don't bother with anything besides FF10, GBA game, a erm dreamcast and sega saturn game (?!), few xbox games but nothing worth that much probably, same with some PS1 games.
So not sure if I'd get much trade in value on anything :( Never traded anything in before.

You still haven't bought a 360? For shame, go and buy it now :p
Lol :p
Was looking at the deals again today. Need a little time to think about it though. Get paid Friday, got £250 for the phone I sold coming through within a few days and then Monday after the Essex Meet I've got a week off so it's verrrrrrry tempting to get it then.
When I was looking at the deals I was with my Mum though and she kept going 'how much?!' ahem
One thing, If I do (emphasis on If :p), what games? Probably only be able to get 2 at most.

Oblivion
To be honest the scope of it makes it worth the price of the console itself, I'm not kidding its really that good!
MB
I'm really conflicted with Oblivion :s
I played it on the PC and couldn't really get into it but the two things that held me back was: I didn't put enough time into it and I wasn't sure on the combat system.
It did feel like I'd enjoy it more on a console......hmmm.
PGR3, GRAW and Burnout Revenge (which is the best game on the console at the moment).
Table Tennis is supposed to be rather good (and may well be my next purchase).
I have heard that Oblivion causes the HDD some issues that lead to it becoming unplayable due to a bug in the way it caches things.
PGR3 and Burnout Revenge look good to me, although I'd only get one racing game.
Table Tennis looks good too, used to play it so got a soft spot for the sport.
Anyone know what Kameo is like? Looks my kind of thing.

My housemate works for Microsoft (having been bought out at Lionhead) and gets all the MS produced games for free . I'll borrow it off him and see what it's like as I haven't played it yet either.
My choice for games would be, again, Oblivion, possibly Tomb Raider and maybe GR:AW. I bought all three at the same time but have only just opened GR thanks to Oblivion! Tomb Raider is quite short but is absolutely beautiful, and I'm already thinking of replaying it for the acheivements. Condemned is quite well made too, and muchos scary. I'm currently waiting for Dead Rising on pre-order - looks to be a lot of fun, especially if you like the film Dawn of the Dead at all (and let's face it, who doesn't?!).
Burnout isnt a racing game in the same way that PGR3 is. Burnout is all about crashing into stuff and blowing things up which isnt anything like racing really.
PGR3 is fantastic if you like racing and the racing on Live! is great too.
GRAW online is similarly fantastic - I play fairly often with the CG lot from the other place and its a great laugh :D

Ta :) And the lucky sod!
I've got Tomb Raider on the xbox so quite happy with sticking with that for now.
Probably be leaning towards Burnout Revenge as I loved Burnout 3 and I'm uber picky on racing games otherwise.
Dead Rising looks good, zombies must mean good :D

Well worth it - buy it before you buy the 360 and trade it in for it!!
I've already got a 12 month subs so got to see if I can transfer it over.
Right come Friday I'm going to have a much better idea of my finances (I have no idea how much I'm getting paid yet) so until then I'll try to put the idea out of my mind :p
Monday I'm out in town anyway though so if I do buy it, I'd love to do it then....

Oblivion for literally hundreds of hours of offline play. Burnout Revenge or Project Gotham Racing for hundreds of hours of online play :) Hitman: Blood Money is also very very good, definitely worth considering.
Ooh I hadn't considered Hitman: Blood Money, did like the older ones though.
Aargh so many choices :D And i still haven't quite 100% said yes to myself yet....you shush Durz :p......and you Davey :D
I have just finished playing a good few hours of GRAW online - such good fun :D
Make sure it is on your list!

You'll say yes in the end. I'll bombard you with random 360 related text messages until you submit :p

Excellent thread Haly,
Been umming and ahhing over a new console as my GC sadly never got the support it needed for games :( I was originally decided on buying a PS3 when it came out mainly for RE5 but it looks like that'll go to 360 so I'm definitely going to buy a 360, just wanted to see other people opinions and games to get.
I'll be following this to see how you get on and what bundle and games you get. People don't need to worry I'd be getting a premium pack and would love to play Pro Evo online :)
Durz won't like me for this but ah well :p
Decided I'm going to stick the £250 I've made in a seperate bank account (So I don't spend it by accident) to fund future meets. I enjoy them too much and I know that once I move, I'm going to have less money which might make meet going harder.
At least this way I can guarantee a couple of meets at least :)
Although do remember I said that the xbox360 has been hacked now. So if one was to purchase said xbox... it could be cheap to obtain new games ;)
Still isn't going to sway me I'm afraid.
Meets are too important for my happiness to risk it :)
Just have to see at Christmas if I can get a 360 then.

Don't worry Haly you aren't alone in your lack of 360 possession, I'll be waiting till around Christmas myself to buy my 360 as Gears of War should be out when I get mine ;)
Well at least I'm not alone :D
I'd love it right now but I've got to be sensible and prioritise and remind myself of what's most fun, and it's meets :p
I haven't got a 360 either and I think Sam would kill me as if I did get one as I don't use my PS2 much nowadays.
Bought myself a PSP recently and I don't use that much now either. :( Need to get more games for it
I spend too much time playing Guild Wars on the PC.

Well if you wait and buy your 360 around Christmas time you'll have tons of cool stuff to play on.
I've had my cube since launch day and am still playing games on I've had for months and haven't touched. Infact kitten bought my harvest moon for Christmas 2 Christmas' ago and I still haven't played it :(
We should see a nice second wave of games released in time for the Wii and PS3 releases to make people want to buy the 360. For a rough idea of what to expect I've been looking on play and here are my Christmas choices I'll be buying if I have enough cash :D
RE5
Mass Effect
Shadowrun - never knew this existed, should be cool
Gears Of War
PE6
They will all be out before crimbo so you'll have lots to play then. There are others that are out around early September, but have a squiz here (http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/RCS/5-/ComingSoon.html?cpage=1&ob=date#30/09/2006) and you'll see there is plenty.
Play Harvest Moon! It's a great game :)

I played the introduction but we were busy playing Animal Crossing so that was swallowing so much time each day going round sorting different things out there.
I should really hook the cube up again we even have the Sims 2 which we're playing together, just don't have the time at the minute and the weather is nice too :D
Oh just checked out details for Shadowrun and going to give that one a miss
I used to love it, going to get it on the DS when it comes out.
