speaking of which, how would i then play the latest games without upgrading back to 2.71?

Applicaton called Devhook which I'm working on understanding.

When you understand it (and have finished talking to yourself), can you let me know?

Right.

You basically need to downgrade your PSP to firmware rev 1.5 from whatever you've got. If you have over 2.71 (I think) then it can't be done.

I used this (http://forums.qj.net/f-psp-firmware-discussion-253/t-tutorial-271-generic-downgrader-73464.html) guide to upgrading mine from 2.6 to 2.71, then downgrading it to 1.5

Then this (http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/about31107.html) guide to installing and using DevHook. I used the "DevHook 0.46 Ultimate Installer v1.1.1 By ChaosZero" to install it and although that gives you a fancy option to install lots of different packages, I only chose DevHook itself.

DevHook 0.50 which will simulate 2.80 and 2.81 is about but I read reports that it's not working too well so I stuck with the earlier version.

And it's working well ;) :D

I don't have a PSP, so purely out of curiosity sake; Whats the benefit of downgrading the firmware?

Download games, install on memory stick, play.

psp games can be ripped from the umd disc and played from a memory stick duo. dropping the firmware back to 1.5 means that you can play these games. kinda wish i hadn't sold my psp now that there's a way to change from 2.71. there wasn't when i had mine :(

It's linked from one of the above links, but for ease, here (http://dl.qj.net/PSP-Firmwares/catid/163) are a few different versions.

Hmm, I think it was through isohunt but I'm not 100% sure (was looking around a few sites over the weekend).
