I love horror films but there's a time and a place. Semi-alone (at work in a big office building with only one other guy), in the dark probably isn't that time or place. :D I've just been jumping out my skin to the Grudge (remake). I've heard the original is worse/better depending on how you look at it. Maybe that's next.

I did the same with Creep one night I was staying up before work, I got into bed and said to Janet I felt like I'd been assaulted!

Thing is I know there's a jump coming up due to the music/sound effects but I just can't help it.

*looks around*

SHHHHHHH. What was that noise?

AARRGGHH!

You offering?

On a lighter note, I watched the remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre last night, on my own while having my ankles shredded by 3 kittens and thoroughly enjoyed it.

When I was in the sixth form, a group of us watched The Thing.

Nothing too odd about that.

But were in a small hut type place in the middle of nowhere on a Scottish island on a Geography field trip at the time.

Let's just say that the lights didn't go off that night. Or the next night either!

When I was a young un, I was quite blasé about horror films. I had watched many at a fairly young age, including the exorcist at the tender age of 14 amongst others.

I thought I was impervious to scary movies until I watched Nightmare on Elm Street a year later - I shat myself watching that and slept with the light on for days after (when I could actually sleep).

I used to find with horror films it's more fun watching it with a group of friends so you could psyche each other out and generally scare the living daylights out of each other... now unless the film is particularly good or I'm in the right mind set I find they seldom make my heart jump bar unexpected loud music effects and sudden bits of actions tied in with the music/effect.

I just picture you sat in the corner of a large open plan office letting go this occaisional shriek and gasp! ;D

I hope the effects aren't too scarring. :p

I was actually sat in the pitch dark on the leather sofas in our visitors reception area. PSP in one hand, coffee in the other.

I'm not a screamer when it comes to scary movies, I do the staring at the screen wide-eyed and refuse to look else-where thing....

The Grudge freaked me out too, it's that damn noise she makes! First film to make me genuinely jumpy for a long time, and it wasn't even that good ;D

I still need to see Saw, really want to see it :D Gore doesn't tend to freak me out too much.
Just something about the Grudge that meant I still thought of it months later when getting up in the night :embarassed:

Saw is good and it didn't stop me watching Saw 2 and Iain and i want to see Saw 3.

Better not watch the original of Grudge it's worse i've been told.

My Brothers are into japanese films and i watched Ring with them and i was so scared i almost cried!! :embarassed:
The American version is the one for me it's not scary!! :)

I jump at the most stupid things :embarassed: Mic always laughs at me :embarassed:

I blame having an over-active imagination - in the flat, the bedroom and living room were upstairs and the bathroom and kitchen were down. Can't remember what the film as but I remember getting to the top of the stairs and then calling Mic and making him go down first and turn on all the lights before I could go down to the bathroom :embarassed: (think it was either the grudge or the ring)

Two Sam must-haves for watching horror/jumpy/scary movies - a hand to hang onto and either a cushion or a shoulder to hide face behind but peer over the top so as to not miss anything :embarassed:

Saw is a really good film. It lures you into dismissing it as a decidedly mediocre affair, until the last half hour, when it just proves to you that it isnt, and that it's taken you for a ride. Helps if you know nothing about it though, else the twist wont work so well.

Saw II was much more of a gore fest, and after Hostel I imagine Saw III is worse still.

I watched The Ring american remake by myself alone in the house for the night and that didn't bother me one bit. The remake of TCM turns my stomach though! I watched about 10 minutes of it and that was enough for me. I love horror films but not gore.

The Juggernaut from Thirteen Ghosts gave me the fear for a few night though.

I did with my sister before we all tried to watch it though. That was pure comedy due to winding each other up! Mass hysteria rocks!

i have no desire to watch SAW at all. It seems like horribleness for the sake of being horrible, and that scares me more than blood and gore put together.

SAW is excellent from a psychological point and I thoroughly enjoyed it even though I don't like gore. Just do what I do and give it a go with your bloke ready to hide behind!

SAW 2 was ok. The eyeball bit was a bit much for me as I'm really squeamish about eyes!

Lomster
11-12-2006, 17:02
SAW's not about being horrible for horribles sake. Jigsaw only picks victims who are wasting their lives or deserve it.

HOSTEL is about being horrible for horribles sake. The eye and the ankle. Gorefest!

EDIT: Ooops, it's Fayshun 'ere

Daz

It's not particularly bloody except when it needs to be. Which you cant say about the second one imo. Though it was much better than I was expecting, after how fast they cooked it up.

Roberta
11-12-2006, 17:09
SAW isn't that bloody, I agree. It's far more psychological horror and implied than anything.

Daz
11-12-2006, 17:14
/nods

It's only bloody once really, and it does help stress the terror.

No film has ever scared me like the Grudge did. I was actually scared to be home alone after that! I daren't go and see The Grudge 2 either. Really want to see it, but I'm just too scared. Same goes for the Jap version.

I really didn't have a problem with SAW at all or TCM. Generally, I'm not fussed about gruesome films. It's all the psychological stuff that gets to me.

Japanese horror is the only thing that will actually get me slightly fidgety (apart from Arachnophobia, I watched that when it came out as a young lad and it gave me the willies!)

Other than that most horror makes me point and laugh :D
