Picked this link up off another forum...

Lightning Fast Browsing Trick For Internet Explorer And Firefox (http://www.spikedhumor.com/articles/71788/Lightning_Fast_Browsing_Trick_For_Internet_Explore r_And_Firefox.html)

Tried it on my firefox and it works :D

For firefox users (i can't be arsed doing the IE one) do this:

In address bar go to 'about:config'.
Filter by 'Network'.
network.http.pipelining set to 'true'.
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests set to 6. (changed under advice of Mr Burbleflop)
Stick on some go faster stripes :p

Webadmins will love you if you do that. 10 concurrent connections to their webserver!

Get FasterFox add-on for Firefox and select Optimised.

Yup. I'm going to try it, but with a much lower maxconnects value (default is 4 btw).

Don't expect BD to serve you reliably with 10 concurrent connections - the webserver will randomly tell you to sod off.

:(

changed it to 6.. is that better? (only 2 more than default)

6 will be ok. It isn't just my server that'll object to it, before I knew any better I had my limit set to 10 and found quite a few sites that refused to serve.

Apparently it causes the server to prefetch files - it's not a maximum number of connections, but rather a maximum number of things to request in one go. For example:

Request items 1-6 - download item 1 - download 2 - ... 3 - ... 4 - ... 5 - ... 6

It's not very well supported, so expect sites to break. Plus it does load servers even though it's all downloaded over one connection.

PS - This info is from google and somewhat unconfirmed. It may be wrong.

Does that work well? MB has it at home, but he's got a 10mb connection so I didn't think that was a fair way to test it :p

Didn't notice any difference when I was on ADSL (like MB I've 10Mb cable now). The downside was some sites telling me to sod off and uninstall that extension if I wanted to browse the site.

I've been using it for something like 9 - 12 months now, and never had that. However I do make sure to put it on Optimised setting which is still RFC compliant. Of course RFCs are only guidelines and not laws....
