Had the house to myself yesterday and while it was getting dark I stuffed one of my fav films into the DVD player:
Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood -
"Where Eagles Dare"
I don't care what anyone says, this film is class.
:)
Got any oldies you like? 30 years +
The Sting - one of the greatest poker games in history, plus the iconic music. Deserved Best Picture winner.

The Italian Job.
Me and Vix have both seen it more times than we can remember and have multiple copies in one format or another but if we spot it in the TV listings we get all excited and watch it again anyway.
Arsenic and Old Lace :)
Love it, it's silly but so funny :D

12 Angry Men counts as one of the best films I've ever watched, not the most exciting premise admittedly but the acting is first-rate.
The Hustler is also pretty good, a young Paul Newman as 'Fast Eddie' Felsen in an eminently watchable film.
Home Alone 2, as Daz found out yesterday ;)
Big Business and anything Disney :)

The Magnificant Seven. My Dad made me watch it some time ago and it is awesome. Watched a lot of John Wayne for the same reason, there are some good films in there.
I much prefer 80s movies tho, that was a great decade of films.
Calamity Jane :)
YES!
I also love The Wicked Lady, a 1945 film about a bored rich woman who becomes a highwaywoman just for the lulz. There's lots of overacting, swooning and heaving bosoms. Excellent stuff.

Lassoo me baby!
The Sting - one of the greatest poker games in history, plus the iconic music. Deserved Best Picture winner.
One of the best films ever made in my opinion.
And while it's not quite 30 years old yet, one of my all time favorite films is The Fox and the Hound.
Absolutely love The Godfather 1 and 2.
Never actually seen the great escape...will try and get round to seeing it this christmas

I made myself watch that about 5 years ago after i heard from someone how good it was supposed to be. And it was, really clever.

I love old epics. Lawrence of Arabia is one of my favourites.
If I'm ever channel hopping and Cool Hand Luke comes on, I can never turn it off :)

Any old B&W film with Cagney or Bogart in it.
Any old B&W film with gangsters and women dressed in 50's style clothes.
The Vikings with Curtis and dimple chin.
Spartacus.
Devil drivers.
My all time ultimate old film though is Angels with Dirty Faces.
Lots of others that my head has forgot for now.
I think Dune is about 30 years old, I like a lot of the old classics but I don't know of anyone else that really likes this (apart from my dad!).

some like it hot - i could watch that film over and over - it never gets boring
gigi - for the songs and costumes
my fair lady - it's just gorgeous
father goose - carry grant at his comedy best
lady killers - another ealing vote, well worth a watch
not a film, but 'not the 1948 show' just because monty python and the goodies are too young for this thread - this is their older, and not quite as funny brother :D
Kind hearts and coronets the other day. what a film!! :D
Have to agree... one of my favourite films Alec Guiness is brilliant
I agree with loads of those above, as for other old films;
The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945)
Giant
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
Seven Samurai
Zulu
Papillion
Fiddler on the Roof
A Star is Born (1954)
It must be very nearly my favourite film of all time, certainly in my top 5: The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945) - With the sublime George Sanders....the much married (to two of the Gabor sisters - not both at the same time ;) ) actor who always seemed to play men you shouldn't really like because they are cads or villans, but has such a charm you can't help it. He told David Niven that one day he would commit suicide, one day he did leaving his note 'Dear World. I am leaving because I am bored. I feel I have lived long enough. I am leaving you with your worries in this sweet cesspool. Good luck'
I totally agree with you on 'The Wicked Lady' Roberta..... James Mason as Jerry Jackson very nice
lady killers - another ealing vote, well worth a watch
Fantastic film :)
I saw Breakfast at Tiffany's again quite recently and I'd forgotten what a great film it is. I'd also say it's aged very well too considering.

Bridge Over The River Kwai
Guns of Navarone
Tora, Tora, Tora
Midway
And several more I can't remember right now.

Likewise. Got the DVD in a sale.
Reefer Madness: - unintentional hilarity
Dirty Harry
Koyaanisqatsi
Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines
Carlton Browne of the F.O.
I was brought up on a diet of Keystone Cops, Laurel and Hardy and Buster Keaton. Can't get much older, and I love them! Not seen them in years though :( Must make amends some time!
Never really got into Charlie Chaplin for some reason.

Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood -
"Where Eagles Dare"

:)Wow! Me too. Its one of my all-time favourite films! "Broadsword calling Danny boy" I just love the plot of the whole film and how Burton pretends to double cross Eastwood. Watched it at least three times since I got it cheap.
As for my own suggestion, although its not 30 years old, Das Boot is flipping brilliant. It was made in 1981 so 26 years old. There aren't that many films that I know of filmed from the viewpoint of the Germans. You feel claustrophobic along with the rest of the crew as they live through the depth charge attacks.
Old enough Huddy? Can we make it 25 years and older films?

Twelve Angry Men.
Definitely, such a brilliant, brilliant film.

I used to watch "Old Yella" when i was a kid but it was too sad to watch all the time!
You're not thinking of "Rear Window" are you? James Stewart with a broken leg who thinks he sees a murder in one of the other apartments?
I recently watched The Big Sleep, Casablanca and The Maltese Falcon and loved them. Bogart is a genius with some of the lines he delivers. I also have a thing for Hitchcock films like North By Northwest.
I know it's not 30 years old, but "On Golden Pond" with Stewart and Hepburn. They were fantastic in that.
