View Full Version : How long do points last?

i was driving so well about 2 months after my test that a sneaky police officer decided that i should get some points. 3, to be precise. not for speeding. how long do they last?

i was having a chat with a mate, and he seemed to think that they last for 2 years, which i thought didn't sound right. on most insurance quotes, you have to mention any in the last 5 years, so i guess that's the important bit!

TS10 is my code of doom.

went over an amber light...the copper thought it was red - points please!

And why do the Police never stop you and say 'the way you took that roundabout was totally wicked, well done' and then check your licence and take off points for good driving.

Bear in mind that insurance companies usually ask if you've had any convictions or points in the last 5 years.

If you total over 12 (I think) points you are instantly disqualifed, thats totting.

As opposed to totty - whereas the more you have the better it is ;)

ah cool. well, touch wood, i've only got those 3 points...it's just for the record because i was having a debate about it :)

can't wait til my 5 years is up...it wont take as long to fill out my car insurance quote form!

TS10 is something that wont be held in the same regard as an SP30 by your insurance company. Your first 3 gold stars for an SP30 are usually ignored or dont affect your insurance premium. Gold stars for darting through red lights are taken a bit more seriously.

Will be interesting to see how this affects your premium!

OMG

Your insurance is a fifth of mine :'(

Ouch! Why so high dude?

I only pay just under £450 FC. (Including mods)

Cos I have a fairly new fast car, I'm young and have 3 points...

Ditto - minus the points though... And probably live in a dodgier area? That seems wierd. :(

Wow. I would have thought a modified rag top would have been a bit more risky... I guess hot hatches like yours are maybe more desireable. What insurance group is it? I do have 2 advanced driving certificates which I decalre - so I'm sure they help. 9 years no claims, and 9 years no points so I'm sure that helps too. Still surprised how much the 172 is though!

Cheap, fast, relatively common and I imagine they get nick/ crashed quite a bit.

About the same maybe £600 I can't remember it wasn't extortionate though

Funny that for a more expensive and powerful car!! Insurance is such a strange thing... Not consistent at all.

The Cup also has no driver aids so I imagine a lot more get totalled

You haven't managed it :p

Thats cos I can drive. Why do you thinkk you've never driven it? ;)

Bah. Gimme a track day anyday - we'll see :p (You're probably crazier than me so you would probably whoop my ass)

Well, take solace in the fact that for me, aged 21 with 0 car NCB (although 4 years driving with no accidents) insurance on a 1.3 Ford Ka is nigh on £700.

Im going to blame the area because even putting in 2 years NCB (which is what I had accumulated on my bike) only brought it down to a bit under £650.

Lostkat reckons its because they have seen footage of me driving like a lunatic...

Might be possible :p
I'll sicken you then, aged 21, brand new driver (been driving 8 months now), insurance on a 1.2 Clio is £580.
Trying my best to not screw up because if I can get 1 years NCB it'll be about £350 :)

All because I'm female i'm guessing :/

Proper drivers buy proper sports cars, boy racers buy hot hatches ;)

My insurance is somewhere between £2-300 (can never remember exactly what) and I'm on 6 points atm.

I'm rather interested in how much insurance will be when i finally manage to get my parents to buy me a car. Which they won't do until i can prove i can afford to run it.
off topic: I just caught the remote in the most amazing way as it dropped off the table!!
