My faithful old 11 year old 14" Sony TV is finaly dieing on me, the audio is distorted and you have to turn it up to maximum to hear it. I have come to the decision that it really needs replacing.

So... question is what TV to go for, had a look at the LG 15LC1R (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000EHRX86/kelkoocpc-lcdtvs-21/ref=nosim) which looks pretty good, not fussed about Freeview (can't receive it) or HD (not going to be able to afford it), it has a SCART connector which is all I need for the DVD Recorder, would prefer composite video over S-Video (yuck) but not overly concerned as I can use SCART.

I would quite like some advise about other LCD/TFT screens available, might go shopping in the sales next week to see if I can pick up a good deal - however not going to buy anything other than Samsung, Philips, Sony or Panasonic in sales as they are the only brands I have consistantly been pleased with across their product range.

So... what to avoid? and what to look for?

Thanks In Advance :)

S-video > composite as it carries the luminence and chrominance seperately.

Did you mean you'd rather have component? Component > S Video > Composite

SCART may not necessarily be any better, there are different flavours of SCART ranging from composite video based ones up to component.

I found composite to be more useful as you can convert RGB or S-Video to Composite more readaly, and RGB to S-Video is a no no from what I have experenced (understandable as combining the three colours to split them to chrominance and luminance again is understandably non-trivial).

Certainly the adapters to convert SCART -> S-Video don't work well on most low end Freeview and Sky boxes.

All that said, My DVD Recorder has Component, Composite, S-Video and SCART and anything I buy can be checked first. Then again how much difference does Component vs. Composite vs. S-Video have on a non HD small TV?
