I'm also getting quite close to 100% on Mosh 1 on hard...didn't think I would say that yet.

I still can't get past Lou on Hard, he's pissing me off. Might just go through the Expert career as far as I can and hope it improves me enough so I can go back and beat him. Already finished Medium career (and will 5 star the rest of them when I can be bothered) so I've unlocked all songs, and now I can just play for fun rather than looking to get every song.

I've been working my way through 5 starring medium. Only got raining blood to go and I'm nowhere near. Got a best of about 64k (3 stars) atm.

OIn hard, I'm seriously stuck on the 7th tier. Managed to do Stricken easy enough, Before I Forget required a bit of time spent in practice but I got it done last night, Knights of Cydonia is annoying me because I can play the first half of the song no problem then it all goes wrong when I get to "Ameding Chorus" and "Galloping triplets" and the section is just too long to blag it with star power.

Not really tried 3's and 7's properly yet. I've had a few goes and struggled to get past about 6% so that'll need some serious practice time once I've done the others.

Save the second one till after the break when you get another two in quick succession, the use all 3 straight away. He's pretty much stuck from there, as you get another one a short while afterwards. I've been in the green for a lot of the song using that method.

My problem is that I'm also finding the song itself very difficult, even after the break so I struggle to stay alive long enough use the power ups. It's made worse by the fact I can't practise it as the DL version of TDWDTG is pretty different from the battle from what I can see.

I thought that about a week ago, my high scores hadn't budged for the last few weeks which was really annoying. Once you get one lucky run where you hit a few notes you normally miss, it's such a great feeling knowing that you are still getting better. I got to 4% on Fire and the flames earlier, was pissed as that's the end of the intro :( but I know I can do it, it's just doing it again.

Just wanted to pick some brains... ;)

Thinking of doing a GH league for charity at Lunchtimes at work... we have a projector in the boardroom which I am assuming we can use...maybe :/

But how would you run a league? Would probably use GH2 as its more well known...

Maybe most points on a certain song, on a certain level? Maybe that will be too easy...obviously on Pro face off against each other (or whichever one it is that you can play the same thing at the same time)

30 places drawn 2 people Vs then winners drawn to go against winners until you get semis etc?

I don't understand league things at footy tournos so not sure how they work!

Thanks! :D

BB x

Chuckles
28-03-2008, 13:52
Do you actually want a league or a knock out?

Knock out would probably be better as you just pair everyone together with the winners progressing to the next round.

Desmo
28-03-2008, 14:23
If it's something where everyone is there at the same time then a Face off knockout would be best. If it's something where people just turn up and have a go then some kind of points system would be better.

BBx
28-03-2008, 14:46
Hmmm.... I wanted it to run for a few weeks... not just one event...but looking at it it could run forever!

30 is a crap number... will have to be be an even number :/

Davey_Pitch
28-03-2008, 18:09
If you want it to run for a few weeks, my suggestion would be a round robin kind of tournament. Seperate everyone into several smaller groups (8 groups would be ideal). Everyone in each individual group plays everyone else once on Pro Face-Off, with the winner getting, for example, 2 points. When everyone has played each other in a group, you should have a clear winner of that group (if people are level on points, the one who is top is the one who won the individual match between those two). When all groups have been decided, the top people in each group can go through to a knockout stage (like a football competition). It'll be easy enough then to go through to only having 2 people left for a grand final.

If you like the idea and want it explained any better/more in depth just let me know :)

If you get 32 people then that would be ideal as you could split it into 8 groups of 4. If you get less people you could always use less groups if you wanted to. You could always find out exactly how many people will be involved and I'll get something sorted for you, rule wise. It would only take me a few minutes to sort it out :)

Got any tips for Lou on hard Chris? He always gets me with his first attack, which stops me getting mine, then it's all downhill. I've not even finished one yet let alone push him into the yellow.

Creature
03-04-2008, 21:34
If his first attack is something like a whammy/amp overload, you should be fine, as the whammy can be gotten rid of very quickly. If it's lefty flip then just try as hard as you can to not focus on the position of the notes and rely on the pitch of the notes. If it's double notes, just pray. What I found best was to start going through expert before going back to beat him. I got to around tier 5/6 before I finished hard.

Daz
03-04-2008, 21:48
Nay mind, got lucky, early whammy then I had a chance. Goes down surprisingly easy, saved up my attacks for a bit. 2 in quick succession (double notes then amp overload) and he's in red, one more shortly after (difficulty up) and it was done.

5*ing medium did me better than I thought. Raining Blood and One had me stumped but I got over them fairly easy now.

The battles are just stupid :/ Roll on Rock Band so I don't have to worry about them any more.

Daz
14-04-2008, 14:34
I'm just hoping I'm not left as meh about Rock band as I sort of have been with GH3. I'm hoping it was Harmonix that had the magic touch and they've done it again with RB.

Davey_Pitch
14-04-2008, 14:39
Same here. I've been YouTubing a lot of RB videos, and to be honest some of the note charts look excellent - challenging but never impossible looking. Certainly nothing so far that looks as hard as TTFAF on GH3, which is just stupidly hard. As long as I always feel I can practise to beat a song, I'll carry on playing.

Besides, if the guitar career stumps me at any point I'll just grab the sticks and start playing the drum career instead :D

Davey_Pitch
18-04-2008, 09:38
Bloody hell, well done mate. I saw you practising it the other day and knew you'd get it soon. Hope you manage it again and get the achievement soon :)

I was actually playing GH3 myself last night, and surprised myself somewhat. I was playing on Hard and took down One without any problems, then beat Raining Blood with no star power (including a 26 note streak during that really fast intro). I decided to have a go against Lou, even though I said I wouldn't, and not once but twice got through to Johnny's solo and hit him with 3 attacks in a row and got his rock meter flashing red. Both times he was only one attack away from losing, and both times I missed getting an attack that would have done it. My heart was pounding as I was so close. If I hadn't had to go to bed I surely would have carried on and beaten him. I've realised the secret now is just hoping he doesn't get lefty flip. I can cope with almost anything else he throws at me. I just need to time my attacks better as I would have thought 3 in quick succession would have been enough. At least now I finally have belief that one day I can beat him, something I didn't think possible. Fingers crossed anyway :)

Creature
18-04-2008, 13:27
You'll beat him, don't worry. Lefty flip is the only thing that messes me up as well, as I can whammy and hammer notes quick, and i'd played the song so much the amp overload didn't affect me.

Double notes + Difficulty up + amp = death.

Davey_Pitch
18-04-2008, 14:10
Aye, that's the combination I'd love to get against him, I'd have no problems beating him then. Hopefully by the end of the weekend I'll have done it, then I can concentrate on expert career in preparation for Rock Band :)

Davey_Pitch
21-04-2008, 14:40
YYYYEEESSSSS!!! **** you Lou, finally you're my bitch! :D :D :D :D :D

Ahem, as you can tell, I finally managed to beat Lou on Hard and finish that career off, and I must admit, it was completely lucky. I got through to Johnny's part with some fairly stupid mistakes made, my rock meter bordering on red, but with 2 attacks saved. Struggling to simply survive I managed to collect the next attack, and by accident set off one of my own. I decided to do the other two as well (in for a penny, in for a pound and all that), and as I launched the third attack the usual firey death writing came up. However, instead of it saying "Lou Rocks" or whatever it says, which I was expecting, it said "Now Finish Him". I was amazed but I didn't care. I finished the song and shouted a huge "**** you!!" when I did it.

I'm a happy Davey now :D

It is insane, I've only tried a few times, can get to Johnnys solo but I fail quickly with no sp :(

Creature
25-04-2008, 12:11
Well the first Guitar hero is fun, though my arm hurts from the constant strumming. Oh well, all GH games finish on expert, including GH2 on PS2 as well :)

Davey_Pitch
25-04-2008, 14:34
I seem to remember the 1st GH being the easiest, do you think that's the case?

Creature
25-04-2008, 15:15
To pass, probably, didn't fail once. You can get enough starpower in each song to breeze the solos, and the riffs are fairly easy.

There's nothing of Freebird/Hanger 18/One scale on it at all. Bark at the Moon was obviously the hardest, having to strum the entire solo :(

Daz
25-04-2008, 16:14
I still keep pondering going back to Hangar 18. I think it requires more time to crack than I'm willing to give, but it's still a niggle that I'm so close to finishing expert.

Davey_Pitch
25-04-2008, 19:41
I'm tempted to give Expert a real try, as I can finish YYZ easily enough (encore song on 2nd to last tier), and I think only a couple of songs would require real practise. Pshychobilly Freakout on Expert scares me though, as I can still only 3 star it on hard :/

Daz
25-04-2008, 23:15
It's all luck really that one. It's relatively short, didn't take me too long after I twigged the star power.

Rock Band instuments are being packed :)
The game is still set as a pre-order :(

Davey_Pitch
19-05-2008, 16:01
Snap. Hopefully they'll both turn up at the same time, it'd be so frustrating having the instruments there and no game to use them with. I'll also have to take a day off to take delivery of the instruments as they'll only send them to my home address.

Creature
19-05-2008, 16:16
I wouldn't mind if it was the other way round as i'd still be able to do the guitar career. this way will just be painful.

Davey_Pitch
19-05-2008, 22:12
As far as I know normal headsets work fine :)

Daz
20-05-2008, 12:41
From a random review:

It’s probably also important to note that any Xbox 360 headset or USB mic can be used by a Rock Band singer; though we didn’t give our headset test a long tryout, we didn’t see any performance difference between them. While it may be more in the rocker style to hold the mic in hand, wearing a headset for singing duties or getting a separate stand to hold the mic for you will enable you to expand the experience to singing and playing an instrument at the same time.
Settles it for me, I'll get the game on it's own and pickup a drum set later in the year when I can afford it. 2 out of 3 aint bad :)

If the vocals are rubbish a cheap random USB mic will be on the cards.

Davey_Pitch
22-05-2008, 08:52
Well I'm definitely never pre-ordering from Play again. The tracking number they gave me for the instruments still isn't recognised by Parcel Force, which means it's likely it's not even left Play's warehouse yet. My game order went back to the "Processing" stage yesterday morning and it still there, despite assurances on the phone at 4pm yesterday that it would be sent out by 6pm. Play are great for cheap stuff when you're not in a hurry, but I'll never pre-order a game from them again. They can have the game back when I get it, I'll go buy it from Asda tonight instead.

Creature

Davey_Pitch

Well, if you check your order history on Play there should be a reference number by the instrument order. I'm assuming that's the tracking number, still not working though.

That sucks :(
Sorry about that, iirc it was me that suggested the cheaper price :o:o

It's okay Jen, not your fault, I'd have bought it from there anyway. The game has now changed to shipped, apparantly yesterday. We'll wait and see. I'll still be getting it tonight if it doesn't show today though, I don't trust Play at all.

Daz
22-05-2008, 11:22

Davey_Pitch
22-05-2008, 11:25
I doubt I'd get chance to get out and get it after work tomorrow, and there's no guarantee it'll be in stock anywhere (the GH players will likely pick up a lot of copies) We're away this weekend as well as you know so won't get chance then either :)

22-05-2008, 12:25
Expert wise you mean? I wouldnt actually mind that, it's suits my ability. I've still not finished GH2 expert but it's a goal I could achieve if I really invested in it.

GH3 expert is a bridge too far for me atm I think.

Creature
22-05-2008, 12:28
Aye, 5 stars on all songs so far, but only second tier mind.

Davey_Pitch
22-05-2008, 12:28
Sounds about right for me then. I'll go through it on Hard to start with I reckon to get used to the timing window again, then go through Expert if I can. Like Daz I reckon I could finish GH2 expert if I decided to put the time in for it.

Creature

I think I'm getting less impatient in my old age. Didn't bother going out to get it last night as I had to be up earlier than usual today and knew if I got it I definitely wouldn't have gone to bed at kind of decent hour. My instruments are also getting delivered today to home but I'm not there so I'll have to collect them from the depot in the morning. Hopefully I'll have a quick go on the drums before I head out tomorrow :)

Davey_Pitch
23-05-2008, 13:32

Burble
24-05-2008, 08:40
My copy arrived yesterday. I played it briefly at the MTV Store in Times Square last year and really enjoyed it.

Having had a quick go, it's as hard as I remember it! So far I've only had a bash about with the drums but I'll fire up the guitar a bit later.

It doesn't help though having a buggered right ankle so using the kick drum is a bit awkward. I've tried using it with my left foot but that doesn't feel right.

Creature
24-05-2008, 18:57

Davey_Pitch
26-05-2008, 02:53
So you can't complete GG&HT? Perhaps I should have started on Hard instead of Expert, if you can't do it I don't think I'll stand a chance :/

Creature
26-05-2008, 18:49
I've played it maybe 4 times so far, and it's a 10 minute song. I've failed in the last 9 minutes 3 times :)

All the songs in the final tier are rock hard with insane solos :) Rest of the songs are easy.

Davey_Pitch
26-05-2008, 19:52
Hmmm, perhaps I should start again on Hard, unlock the songs, and then practise them before I attempt to finish the Expert career. I'm less than halfway through so it should only take me a couple of hours to get back to where I was. Shame though, none of the expert songs have really challenged me so far, only one has made me get 3 stars, all the rest are 4 and 5.

Creature

I finished Hard and tried GG&HT on expert for a laugh, and managed 80% before the G-R-Y-R-G sequence got me. I'm crap at going up and down the buttons that quickly. If I can practise that and improve to the point where I can survive it, I can finish the song. The rest of the song was ok I thought, challenging but never too difficult. That part just kicked my ass though :/

They're bastard hard when you've got a knackered right leg but awesome fun.

I like the way the navigation of the game adapts when you've got the drums plugged in. You could use the D pad to navigate or give the drum pads a whack. Red goes back, green goes forward, yellow goes up and blue goes down. It's a nice touch.

I'm on the 2nd to last tier now. Just went through Foreplay/Long Time and was impressed with myself for getting through the solos fairly comfortably with no need for star power. Much better achievements than GH3, it means decent players should easily be able to get 500 points or so, while top players could get 900+, depending on what the secret achievements are. I just hope the career difficulties stack :)

Davey_Pitch
13-06-2008, 10:43
;D They've said in the end it'll be about 60% Aerosmith, with the rest being bands who've played with, been influenced by, or are supported by Aerosmith. :)

Daz
13-06-2008, 10:56
Tbh I was largely expecting just the tracks that most people are likely to know, and the rest of the music from bands related to Aerosmith. Simply because it would likely appeal to a larger audience - there are more Guitar Hero fans than there are Guitar Hero fans who are also Aerosmith super fans.

Still, if they're after a SingStar type model they have to draw the line somewhere I guess. Guitar Hero Rock... erm More Rock, Rock again etc probably wouldn't have worked :D

I've given up on GH for the time being. I got stuck on Freya, even though I know I can do it, my fingers just don't feel like it, and it's frustrating to the point where I'm really not enjoying it any more. I'm taking a week or two off then I'll go back to it :)
So here we are, over a year since this comment, and I finally beat Freya. It's probably the first time I've tried it in about 6 months, but I figured that since I was armed with GH3 and Rock Band skills, I may be able to get past it. Thankfully, I was right and managed it first go. Unfortunately Psychobilly Freakout still raped me in the next tier, but at least I'm finally there! :D

A question that has already probably been asked but I'll ask it anyway...

Which would be best to start me off? II or III?

Burble
16-06-2008, 10:37
That's a matter of opinion. I find GH III easier (bar the boss battles) so I play it less than GH II. So in my opinion, go for GH II.

Daz
16-06-2008, 10:43
Agree with Burble, GHIII Easy/Medium/Hard are all easier than their GHII equivalents imo - which could either be a good or bad thing depending on which way you look at it!

I'd say get 2 but only because it's a better set list for me, and a smoother learning curve (on the 360 version anyway).

16-06-2008, 11:00
How well does the wireless work on III? I sorta prefer the track listing on III, but I've heard rumours about a button delay due to the wireless?

Burble
16-06-2008, 11:09
No idea, I'm using the GHII controller with GHIII and Rock Band.

Daz
16-06-2008, 11:11
I prefer the wired one. But it was the first one I used, so that might have something to do with it. Sometimes when I play a tricky solo, I nail it with the wired controller, and not so much with the wireless - I'm honestly not sure if it's down to familiarity or the geetar itself.

I prefer the wired GH2 controller, but I can't say I've noticed any real problems with the wireless controller :)

Hmmm. I so want Rock Band for the drums. But I just can't justify £170 on another guitar, a mic I won't use, the drums and the game. Theres 0 chance of my old gamer mates coming round to join in, since they emmigrated. My sis may pop round and play it once. But god I want those drums. I've always wanted drums. I've heard you can get just the game and use the GH controller on it, which I guess could be a start. But I just know I'll love playing those drums as much as I do the geetar. £170 is nearly a new lens, and nearly a 24'' monitor :(

Davey_Pitch
17-06-2008, 13:49
You can buy the drums seperately you know, I think they're £60 :)

petemc
17-06-2008, 13:55
Hmmmmm. The RB guitar seems to have more buttons though. Are they needed? I've just checked on Play and the drums are £70 but the whole kit is only £30 more. But then that £30 is almost the cost of NG2 that I need to buy. Damn games!

Burble
17-06-2008, 14:05
The whole kit (http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/4-/5397984/Rock-Band-Band-In-A-Box/Product.html) is just the instruments though - it doesn't include the game.

The extra buttons on the RB guitar are (I think) just for the solo sections of the game but you can use the GHII or GHIII controller as well during the solos.

If you've got a wired 360 headset then you can use that as the microphone for RB. In the box with my drums was a small adapter cable that would let me do just that. I've not tried it out as I don't hate my neighbours enough to force my singing on them.

petemc
17-06-2008, 14:09
Ah thats not bad. I can imagine my sister might enjoy the singing aspect, but I might hit her with the drum sticks though. I just don't need a 3rd guitar and like you theres no way I'm singing.

Burble
17-06-2008, 14:20
Apparently the extra buttons on the RB guitar are so that you can play the solo sections without strumming. I've not used one so can't comment, but a lot of people seem to prefer the RB guitar to the GH guitars. Also I'm told that the RB guitar won't work with GHII or GHIII.

The drums are awesome, surprisingly well built and a great laugh to use. I'm still having problems using the kick drum with my right foot but I'm getting better.

Davey_Pitch
17-06-2008, 14:52
I don't like the RB guitar, much prefer the GH2 wired and GH3 wireless versions. Still might have to go back to it though as I don't think I can complete the game without using the solo buttons :/

it said I had completeed easy, and that there was another song...

Nintendo are removing all the user made Nintendo songs from the GHWT store :( They really shouldn't be that stupid and should let people enjoy their tunes. Its over 20 years now and the music can be found anywhere. Damn shame because I'd be heading out now to get the game for those tracks. GH: Classic game themes edition.

Davey_Pitch
08-11-2008, 01:22
I got a chance to play GHWT today as a mate bought it and brought it around, and I have to say that I wasn't overly impressed. Some songs were okay, but the note charts in general didn't feel right for some reason. It's hard to put a finger on what felt wrong, but it just did. Not to mention that the band tour mode pales in comparison to Rock Band 1, never mind what RB2 will be like.
