Oh, there's a 2nd reason I'm not happy with Game either. When I rang them up to find out what was happening with my order (before I got that email), they said they had literally just received stock, and it would be sent out tomorrow. No real problem, except I always get my games delivered to work. Which is shut on a Saturday, which is when the game would arrive. I explain this and ask them if they can kindly change the delivery address for me, so I don't have to fanny around going to the post office depot to collect it, which will cost me around £3 on the bus. They tell me they can't, for security reasons. This is despite the fact that Gameplay, who happen to be owned by the Game.co.uk group, could change the delivery address for me on my Scene It order, a week ago.
Not impressed at all. May have to start ordering from elsewhere, not been impressed by the service from Game or Gameplay in the last week :/

Davey go to www.shopto.net
May look a bit amateur-ish but damned if the game isn't in my hands thursday before release. Which I promptly open in the staff canteen for giggles :D
If your feeling particularly clever you can setup ordering by text message too....
NokkonWud
21-11-2008, 12:42
Yeah, text message ordering is very handy.
Davey_Pitch
21-11-2008, 12:48
How does that work? Do they store your card details and charge it when you order a game by text?
NokkonWud
21-11-2008, 13:23
You can save your details on your site, when you put your details in you can save your mobile (they text you when your game is loaded onto a shipping van, so you know you get it next day from then).
You then text their Text Number (07786205602) with the games txt code such as XB2CA13 (Call of Duty: World at War [Xbox360]) and then it gets shipped. Handy if you don't want to sign in at work or if you're in a rush and browsing the site on your phone. I believe the SMS numbers are structured, i.e. XB2 = Xbox360 (Xbox2), CA(ll of duty) 13 (13th version?). A good example is Gears of War 2, which from the example above is XB2GE02.
It's a nice feature and just adds another way to order. It now seems you get £1 off your next order on every text order too.
ShopTo will be where I buy my games for friends closer to Xmas due to their 3 day none-arrival setup, where if a game hasn't arrived after 3 days they'll send another out. I know this could come in very handy over the Xmas rush (they will probably change it to 5 days though). I know my friend was gutted when Gears of War 2 didn't arrive from Gameplay and he had to wait 2 weeks.

Been beaten yet Davey?
Davey_Pitch
27-11-2008, 09:48
Nope, not even close yet (though one of the Disturbed downloadable songs came up in a Mystery setlist and gave me a good challenge). To be honest, I'm up to the point of winning the plane (the last thing I did), and I've 5 starred nearly everything, gold starring several, and 4 starring all but one of the others (a single song where I just couldn't get the rhythm down). I'm sure I'll hit some songs soon that kicks my ass though.
How about you? I doubt anythings even come close yet has it?

Not challenged seriously by an in game song yet, only when sp fails, only Visions has failed me thus far, and one Yngwie track. Missed one note on Ace of Spades yesterday in the solo :( Was a stupid hold note.
Davey_Pitch
27-11-2008, 16:32
I reckon the Yngwie track (if it's not DLC) will kick my ass if I try it on expert. I can tell I'm improving but I'm still not as good as I want to be yet.
Creature
27-11-2008, 19:59
Don't worry, it's dlc, hardest in-game song is Visions. Hmx have said that it's the hardest song they've made for dlc, almost on par with Jordan, it's called Caprici Di somethingorother, and it's bloody hard.
Davey_Pitch
28-11-2008, 09:57
I finally got beaten last night, when Blackened by Metallica came up in a Mystery setlist. So far it's the only song to come close to beating me. Still loving it though, much prefer this layout to Rock Band's linear career.

04-12-2008, 12:29
For me, yes. The track list is obviously a matter of opinion, but the note charts just feel better in RB2. I got the feeling in GH:WT that the note charts were a bit over the place at times, and had far too many 3 button chords for my liking. Add to that, in GH:WT's tour mode you have to play set lists of several songs at once, which is generally fine but not ideal if you only want a quick blast on it. In RB2 you can still play single songs sets in the World Tour mode, as well as multiple song sets.
To be fair though, I haven't played GH:WT for more than a couple of hours, so I may be doing it a disservice. From the time I spent on it though, RB2 is a better game, and with the DLC from the first game working on it, you have a wider variety of songs to play.
NokkonWud
04-12-2008, 13:18
So then, RB2 > GH:WT?
That's definitely the majority opinion.
I've played upwards of 200 songs on them both and RB2 is miles ahead of GHWT on note charting. The feel is so much better.
RB1 is the best of the bunch though. I hate having to keep track of which songs I can do On which level, with each instrument with a sodding pen and paper on RB2.

So here we are, over a year since this comment, and I finally beat Freya. It's probably the first time I've tried it in about 6 months, but I figured that since I was armed with GH3 and Rock Band skills, I may be able to get past it. Thankfully, I was right and managed it first go. Unfortunately Psychobilly Freakout still raped me in the next tier, but at least I'm finally there! :D
Well, another 8 months later and I decided to have another go at GH2 for a change. Started off with a quick blast on Dead, getting my 2nd highest score, which was surprising as I'd completely forgotten the note chart. Then had a quick go on Jordan for a laugh, and got up to the 1st solo which then kicked my ass. Then tried Hangar 18 on Expert, and got up to 85% before I failed, and I know I can do better on it. Then decided to try Psychobilly Freakout, the song I feared most on my current tier. First go I died at 15%, but somehow second go I managed to beat it, only just mind. Then had a quick go of Freebird's solo in practise mode and reminded myself that I'm still a hell of a long way from completing the game! Still, happy I managed to beat that bitch Freakout, that'll do me for tonight :D

Nicely done dude.
I'm all guitar'd out at the moment, no song really has me bouncing around wanting to play it, i'd much rather drums or do vocals, but living at home means I can only do that when home alone :(
I've punished through all the GH:WT tracks on Expert apart from Hot For Teacher (in career, have done it in quick play once). They are just too easy. Bass on expert is also really easy apart from BYOB. Drums on the other hand... Have done one or two tracks on Expert but they are just so damn hard. Still loving it all these months on though :)
Just placed an order for GH:WT guitar bundle. Got it for £44.99 which I'm quite pleased with.
Went back to GH:3 and Lou on Hard who I haven't tried for months.
He totally kicked my ass again. One day, one day.

Far better choices than WT, and i'm not a resi fan.
But for £45 you could have gotten Riddick or Resident Evil 5! :p.
Could have got Resi 5 for £31.99 from my local Tesco. I just don't fancy it though.
It was between WT and RB2 but after looking at song lists I just prefer the tracks; then again I preferred the GH3 ones to RB1.
I've played a lot of 'dark' games lately and just fancied something a tad more 'fun'.
NokkonWud
23-03-2009, 14:26
But if you look at the DLC and tracklists, RB2 w/ RB1 is much better, especially with the number of master tracks. From what I saw of GH WT it was abysmal.
Creature
23-03-2009, 14:34
I'm gonna stay out of this one, i'm sure you all know my views by now :p
Having just had a longer look RB2's aren't that bad as well but I certainly wouldn't call GH:WT's abysmal. Though after seeing how much you enjoyed High School Musical I'll take your musical opinion with the proverbial pinch ;)
I don't plan on buying any DLC so RB's advantage here is moot too.
I'll propably grab RB2 solus at some point but for now I'm happy with a new list of songs and new guitar :)

I'm not one to be taken in by setlists. If I was, GH:Metallica would be a day one purchase, but it's just so bad to play i'm not even thinking of renting it. WT is very different gameplay wise compared to GH3, I liked GH3, I hated WT

That's a pity. I really liked GH3 and I'll give WT a go. If it's no good I'll keep the guitar (which by all accounts is very good) and sell it as solus and get RB2. I still think it was a good deal for £45 incl. delivery though :)
I rented GH:WT for a couple of nights. Wasn't keen at all. It just felt wrong and it felt too easy too, which for someone who sucks at it, can't be good ;D

GH:WT is great when you are playing it as a band - the solo side of it isnt great because its easy, apart from two of the tracks expert is a relative walk in the park although 100%ing tracks on expert is quite elusive (especially as one of my guitar's strum bars is on the way out!)
I was a bit gutted that I got through every song on the GH:Metallica demo on expert 1st time through. Where is the challenge in that?
I dont really like Rock Band though, not sure why I just dont so I might as well get GH:Metallica and band it up with my housemates (all massive Metallica fans)

Just had an interesting night of Rock Band.
Expert drums whilst drunk is fun :)
I knew this thread was somewhere :D
Thanks to Asda having band in a box uber cheap, I can finally join the RB club :D Only been wanting it for over a year ;D
I rented GH:WT from work for a couple of days while I sourced a copy of RB2. Luckily work had a copy come in which I got for £27 after discount.
Definitely in the RB2 > GH:WT camp. I much prefer the layout for the tour. The setlists for GH:WT got irritating for me as I didn't feel like I could drop into it like I can with RB2.
Plus the DLC is awesome! I'm very glad I've got plenty of points at the moment as I'm going to need them ;D
I've never been brilliant on the guitar but seem to be steadily improving and can hold my own on Medium just about, still need plenty of practice though! I don't like the RB guitar so I'm keeping to the GH wireless guitar.
Drums I'm rather noobish with but haven't failed any songs in a while! RB2 seems much more forgiving than GH:WT imo though.
Also got my Mum hooked which is excellent! She prefers the guitar, as the drums aren't great for her neck injury, which is fine with me.
So yeah, very happy with my purchase :D
For me it's the best game I've ever played. I've sold so many copies for EA they should pay me to own it. I have people round often for dinner and as I'm in my 30's many of my friends are non gamers and give me a weird look when they see my plastic intruments and gaming room. Especially the wives. I can see the look of childish homo written across their faces ;D
Sometimes it's a fight to get them to try it. Then it's a fight to get them to leave my house.
My love affair with gaming since the 360 came out is over. I'm really not interested anymore until the next gen comes out but rockband is the reason I don't sell off what I have.

Still trying to teach my little finger to do what's it's told.
I still load it up from time to time with the ridiculous notion that I might actually beat Lou on Hard ;D
In other news Jen (my wife) has fallen for drumming; last night she told me that it's the best fun she's ever had on the 360. I also mentioned it to my neighbour who now wants a Guitar Hero party. Good stuff :)
I just bought aerosmith again, for a just over a tenner I thought it was worth having in my collection and try to finish off the careers. I only bought it the first time for a new les paul.
Trying to find GHWT cheap enough to warrant finishing that career off as well.
I recently went back to GH3 and progressed the hard career past the tier I was stuck on and I'm halfway though expert career. After Rockband solos being so much tighter I now find Hopo's so much easier on the GH games.
A small part of me wishes the RB solos were as loose. Especially not having a RB guitar for zig zags using the solo buttons.
Ordered GH Metallica last night, was already 80% sure on purchasing before I saw the tracklist then the list of non metallica tracks swung it for me and I shall be enjoying the following muchly:
# Corrosion Of Conformity - Albatross
# Motorhead - Ace Of Spades
# Queen - Stone Cold Crazy
# Slayer - War Ensemble
# System Of A Down - Toxicity
Ace of Spades is much fun! It's on one of the GH-esque games I've got (I think it might be GHII but I could be wrong) and I really enjoy playing it.

Didn't think I'd be posting anything in here again, but I feel a small update is needed. For the first time in what I guess is years, I can finally say "Daz, you're playing catchup". Somehow, tonight I managed to beat Misirlou on my 3rd attempt, Institutionised on my 2nd go, and Hangar 18 on my 1st go. Free Bird kicked my ass still, but I reckon if I can hit the 2 star power sections I missed I can give it a really good go. That song still beats me like a ginger step child :'(
Played on the drums a couple of times recently, really should get myself a set. Keep seeing them cheap on HUKD but never pick them up (saving for too many things atm!)
I know its an inferior platform, but RB (Beatles) on the Wii is appalling in comparison to GH. The overall feel of the game is just much less professional. Is it just a bad port?
I was playing it at the weekend and quite enjoyed it (but was pretty sozzled tbh :D), on 360 that is - looked and played the part anyway. It reviewed pretty well, though I think that was more for the attention to detail given to the cut scenes and audio clips etc. I avoided it as a full price title just because although I liked the beatles, a whole game set _exclusively_ around them didnt appeal when the others offered a broader music choice.
I've got RB Beatles for the 360, not tried the Wii version though.
Its good but it's far too short and lacking in content. Completed the career mode in two sessions and haven't gone back as I'd rather play Lego Rock Band or Rock Band 2.
I'm very pleased it was a present rather than I'd bought it myself.

The thing I still love about these games is that you are always improving, there's no point that you can breach. You fingers get quicker, your arms build up more endurance, it's just very very satisfying. There are infact still songs that come out which I swear i'll not beat for a while, such as this (http://www.rhythmauthors.com/song_preview.php?id=281) one, but I passed it within a few attempts.
However, THIS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MH0SMFKyiS0&feature=player_embedded) is now coming. I've played it. 40ish%, 2 stars, with no fail on. It's insane, and harder than that video could ever show.

Heh, looks fun! I give Danny (GuitarHeroPhenom) about 2 days before he FCs it!
Dunno if this is the right hero thread but Play have DJ Hero w/Turntable for £35. Game have it for £40 and I'll be picking it up later.
Edit: No I won't. Just had to pay a large bill. Oh well, its cheap anyway if you want it.
Not quite the right thread, but details are leaking about Rock Band 3. Most notably the coolest instrument evah!!!!1111oneoneoneone:

I still maintain hope for a Kazoo edition into Rock Band 4.

Took me another 3 attempts, but I managed to beat GG&HT on Expert on RB1 to finally finish off that Expert career. I'll definitely be looking to pick some of the other GH games up cheaply to see if I can do them as well now, if I can manage to finish GH3 that is!

I wouldn't bother with the other GH games. After GH3 they all go down hill and it fades into a more 'pop-y' type game. Even GH:Metallica is bad as the menus gave me a headache. GH6 is apparently going to be better but I really, really hate the game engine, it's way too loose and slidey notes are awful. I'd save for RB3 and a crap tonne of DLC :P

To those of you looking forward to Rock Band 3 who are enjoying the game without having to move your hand around, I have something to say.
You're screwed.
RBN authors have been told that from now on, all songs on medium must have at least one orange gem, and all songs on easy must have one blue and one orange gem. This will apply to all future Rock Band DLC, and inevitably, RB3.
Enjoy.
:/
Might not be getting a purchase off me then. I'd be ok to adjust but I mostly play RB/GH games with my Mum and she'd struggle if she had to move her hand about. We already can only ever play for relatively short doses as it is.
Chronic injury in one arm and carpal tunnel in the other doesn't make for ideal guitar playing!

I don't think it's necessarily going to be a lot harder, as there will still be probably the same amount of notes at the same slow speed, meaning you can look at the note, the fretboard, back at the note then play. I can see where it'll be an issue for your mum though. None of the old songs are going to be reconfigured to this new form, and I don't believe GH will either, so you still have ~1000 songs you can play together, nearly 2000 if you include all dlc.
I think it'll be of massive benefit for those who want to move to hard, but find it too tricky to move the hand at such a quick speed, now they'll be used to it from the start.
We haven't been given an official reason for it yet, but i'm assuming (hoping) that it will come at E3.
Yeah it's moving her hand about that's the main problem :/
Still, like you said, plenty of DLC with older titles at least :) Need to return to RB2 now that we've nearly completed Lego Rock Band.

I like the idea of adding Orange notes to medium difficulty as a lot of people find the jump in speed and extra notes in Hard mode to be too challenging at times. As Chris said, introducing that extra button at a slower speed will get people used to moving up and down the frets earlier, making them better equipped for hard and expert difficulty.
Speaking of Rock Band, my review copy of Green Day: Rock Band turned up today, and it's pretty decent so far. Not very challenging though, I think real experts like Chris will find the guitar career to be a litle dull as there doesn't appear to be much in the wu of challenge so far. I just need to go begging at EA as I can't export my songs to Rock Band as I didn't get a manual with the code in it.

Passing them will be easy, the challenge is going for 100% on them all :D
