I had a go at Free Bird on Hard and lasted about 53% before failing the song. I usually have my fingers on the first 4 buttons as the 5th isn't needed on easy/medium, but adding it in on Hard really throws you off. I was doing alright until the solo kicked into gear :/

On Free Bird on medium there are over 1200 notes, and I've hit well over 1100 of them, it's just a case of concentrating and not missing stupid ones in the middle somewhere. The problem for people will probably be finding someone as good to do it with :/

Thinking about the co-op achievements, they may be easier to get then they initially look. When you do co-op, you can both pick seperate difficulty levels, so you may be able to get them by having someone go through Free Bird perfectly on medium while someone goes through it perfectly on easy. That would certainly make things a lot easier :)

I saw a guy do Free Bird on Expert in the Game in the basement of Hamleys on Tuesday. The poor sod looked knackered at the end, but he did end up with a 5 star review.

I can't wait to get hold of Guitar Hero II on the 360! When I first saw it I didn't think I'd like it (but I had the same thought about Amplitude on the PS2) but I played it at a friends place last week and absolutely loved it.

When everyone left the room I had a go of smoke on the water on expert. I used to be able to play that track through on my guitar note-perfect. In fact, I just had a bash and I am not far off now....

On Guitar Hero, I couldnt even get *close*. Im not sure why my brain isnt compatible with the game but I suspect that I am just a touch too early with each note / strum. I did like the way it accepts hammer-ons - let me get through the first track in the game on hard for a fair way through :)

Ah, I see. When you go through career mode on Guitar Hero 2, you play encores at the end of each section. When you get to the final section, if you choose to play the encore it comes up with the message "FINE. They AREN'T just heckling you this time. SIGH." :D

Damn right. I was going to keep my PS2 versions as I love some of the songs on the first game (I love Rock N Roll, Killer Queen, etc) but if they're coming out for download I'll be very very happy :D

Ten new songs are great, but the ability to download additional tracks from the Xbox Live Marketplace is what really gives this version legs. Songs from the original Guitar Hero will be available on the Marketplace. We haven't learned the full list, but our reliable source (call him Lars Umlaut) tells us that Ozzy's "Bark at the Moon", Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Higher Ground", and Incubus' "Stellar" will all come in the first wave roughly a week after the game launches.

I got it for £31 after trading in the PS2 GH2 + Guitar, and NHL 07 which I liked but never played enough to keep. Loving it so far, the new songs are cool, may get the medium career finished tonight on all 5 stars (done every song on 5 stars so far), depends if I get enough time. :)

I read a rumor that the Halo theme (Mjolnir Mix) might be available as a downloadable track :D Just listening to it now and it is a perfect track for guitar hero fans and halo fans. I'd love that to happen :D You're right about GH1 having the better tracks. 2 so far hasn't been all that great compared to 1. Some cool tracks and I just got to RATM. Can't wait for extra content.

All you need to be able to do is around 250k on the bass if you do that, I can get 350k on the lead track almost every time. If you come here next time remember to bring the guitar and I'm sure we'll manage it ;)

Arse arse arse! 4 freaking notes from a perfect Freebird on Medium! Urg, I'll get it soon, I know I will, as the notes I miss are different each time. I just need to put a perfect performance in once and it'll be all good.

Still, my last score put me in the top 1% for Freebird, currently 580th out of 58210 scores, better than a lot of Expert scores. I'm happy with that :D

I was thinking just the same. There's no way/no point in me attempting to match you on the lead track - you've already mastered it. Better me putting effort into the bass track, which I will do :)

I actually went through the bass track last night to see what it's like, and it has a lot of the main solo in it, so it's not *too* different from the lead track in a lot of ways. If you can score 300k on the lead track I'm sure we can get 600k on it overall :)

Not gonna bother really. I'd be willing to pay that for online co-op with some extra achievements, but I've not even started on the existing bonus tracks - let alone want to download some more just for the hell of it!

Got my 300k last night and started 5*ing the medium tracks I messed up. Think that might be my achievements on that game done for a while, it'll take me a little time to complete hard and a great deal longer to 5* them all - doubt I'll go that far tbh. ([edit] though I'll buy all the guitars etc and unlock those)

Pretty sure I could unlock another couple of co-op achievements though the next time me and Mr Pitch are together (400k and 600k) :)

The easiest way to get all the "purchase" achievements is to start a new band and go through the game on medium again, 5 *'ing everything as you go. By doing that you could easily afford to buy all the guitars (just under $12,000) and all the finishes (just under $12,000) in one go, and make large headway on buying the bonus tracks.

I must admit though, I don't know whether you have to buy all the bonus tracks etc with one band, or whether you could buy half with one band and half with another.

The above is my current aim on the game, though I must admit I was actually a little bored going through it again on medium difficulty. After playing it for so long on the PS2, and playing Hard difficulty so much, I'm not finding medium to be a challenge any more at all (the only time I miss a note is when my concentration slips), with the exception of Free Bird which is still great fun to play. When I've bought everything I'll carry on my Hard career and see how I do, I'm about halfway though and the difficulty level has jumped up quite a bit :)

There's only additional costumes for the original characters, the unlocked characters don't get any additional stuff, which makes it easier :)

One thing I will add though is that to buy all the guitars, finishes and outfits you'll need approximately $40,000, and the most you can get from a single career is $28,800, so you may need to do a third band to finish off the outfits or whatever else is left.

Haha! I'm laughing at the badness of the situation, my excessive GH2 playing has burned the bottom part of the screen, where you can see the 5 notes on the fretboard, into my plasma TV! :shocked:

Fortunately it only showed up when the screen was just a white picture (or very bright) and it seems to be fading away. Might have to play it in shorter bursts from now on :embarassed:

At least, 3/4 of the way at least through expert and 5 starred most of hard. :cool:

I've heard that over time burned in images fade from plasma screens, so you should be alright after a while :)

Just checking, do I need Xbox Live Gold to go on the scoretables and stuff or is Silver enough? Is Gold just for online multiplayer gaming? For some reason haven't really looked much into xbox live, mainly because when I tried it out with the free month when I got it first, I encountered quite a lot of lag that put me off - specially compared to PC gaming.

I've been plugging away the last few nights. Slowly working on 5*ing medium. Took me a while to do Sweet Child O' Mine but I've noticed a definite improvement in my playing since. I seem to have started flitting from song to song though rather than concentrating on one song til it's done. Got 4* on Hangar 18 and Free Bird last night though :D

Also had a quick try on Hard last night and failed dismally. The notes just seem to come at you so much quicker. I can see how the lower levels will seem easy once I get used to playing at that speed though.

I just finished Hanger 18 on expert (took about 5 hours :o), unlocked free bird. I didn't find it that hard even on hard, but on expert the big solo really takes some doing. Going to have expert finished by tomorrow though ;D

Actually I think the Medium to Hard step in difficulty is much greater than Hard to Expert, for most songs at least. Towards the end of the game though Expert is much more difficult than Hard.

It's not too hard to survive through most songs, if you nail the rhythm part that repeats and save up star juice for the nasty bits. That helped me through Hanger 18!

Got to say, I have a lot of work to do though still, in the overall rankings (just for campaign) I'm only in the top 20000. Should bring that down pretty quickly when I have all the songs done on expert ;D

I 5*'d every song on medium, plus 2-3 perfects, plus the first tier or 2 of hard as well. By doing that I know I've beaten a lot of scores that people get on expert by getting 3-4 stars. That could be the only way I'd be ahead of you. If you went through and got 5 star on all of hard you'd be well ahead of me :)

I had a go at that bit and lasted a little bit. I don't know about you, but for parts like that I'd only use one finger, play the first note, and slide through the others. My fingers simply aren't fast enough for multiple pull offs (yet), but for sliding one finger is fine if you can get the timing right.

Stone me, just had a go at Heart Shaped Box on Expert, and while I did manage to finish it, it was with a paltry 3 stars. I 5*'d it on Hard first go, so I can tell that Expert is going to kick my ass a lot. I think I need to finish the Hard career before I even think of taking on Expert. Good fun though, nailed the solo perfectly which amazed me. Probably couldn't manage it again :D

There have been parts where sliding a finger works best, seemed to well on Hanger 18. It's just so fast on freebird and has a jump from green to orange every 4 notes I don't think it'd work so well. Off to try again anyway :D

They may be the type of people who had the PS2 version and could perfect nearly every song on Expert. If they've 5*'d all the unlocked songs maybe they'd score that highly. I've not added up the possible scores so don't know if it's an achievable score or not.

For those who really enjoy the game and wish they had more songs, this looks highly promising.... Freetar Hero (http://www.freetar.net/). It's for the PC and the Xbox 360 Guitar apparantly works perfectly on the PC. You can create your own songs based on your music files (though how much work it would be I'm not sure), and there's quite a large number of community songs that you can download (all made from real songs).

I'll be checking it out tonight when I get home, but it looks like it could be excellent :)

It's just a normal 360 controller under the hood so you'd expect that :) You get the drivers from Windows update for XP or Vista, dont think it'll work on 2k or below.

Speaking of Hard, I nipped home at lunch and played through a section on hard (not sure which one it was, but it had Aerosmith as the encore), and for the first time, everything seemed to click. The notes didn't seem so fast, I could spot the hammer-on and pull-offs coming, and my fingers seemed to know where to be. I wasn't getting 5*'s on the songs (mainly as I was always saving my star power incase I ran into trouble), but things seemed much better. Hopefully it wasn't just a one-off as if felt great having long sections of quick notes and nailing pretty much every one using the hammer-ons and pull-offs. I still doubt whether I'll ever be good enough to do Expert properly, but just finishing Hard will be good enough for me :D

The third pack is probably the best one out of the six so far (assuming these packs are right), so if you're going to get one that'd be the one to get.

I would love to see them release a complete download which re-structures the career mode as well to incorporate the new songs, I'd be much more likely to get that instead of just getting some extra songs to do in quick play.

Only two parts bothered me, the fast intro, and the fast solo. If I can get them nailed in practise mode then I should be able to get past it no bother, I managed to do the rest of the sections to a reasonable level. My hand was sore after so much playing though so I needed a break anyway :D

Woot, hadn't played since Monday/Tuesday, and decided to have a quick go at Psychobilly Freakout tonight, despite being so tired I was falling asleep on the couch. Somehow, I did it first time (thanks to some well timed Star Power). On the last tier now, should prove interesting! :)

Been back on Guitar Hero tonight, achievement hunting and trying to improve my skills for Hard - which is proving just that. I'm not making the jump very successfully, fingers just dont seem to want to move they way they need to, though I'm sure it'll come with time.

On the plus side, all Guitars and finishes bought - 2 achievements unlocked. Only thing I need from the shop now is outfits, though I dont know if I'll need a new band for it :/

Shame you weren't round the corner Davey - we'd easily unlock 400 and 600k between us now.

Had a blitz and have reached the last tier on hard.... damn it's tough! Finished a couple of them, but I fear the remaining few will be difficult :/

I'm in the same boat Daz. I have a feeling that I'll need the practise mode to get past a few of the songs. Still trying to perfect Free Bird as well to get the 1000 note streak. I did 890 last night then missed a completely easy note, when I knew I could do the rest of the notes no bother. I was so angry with myself I nearly punched something :/

Arse arse arse arse. I've finished 4 of the last 5 songs, and got completely destroyed by Carry Me Home. After 3 attempts I was nowhere near finishing it, so decided to have a quick go of Free Bird on Hard just to see how much I'll need to improve to finish it. I finished it with 4 stars first time, so it's only Carry Me Home that's stopping me finishing the Hard career, and I don't feel anywhere near close to doing that one. Grrrr, I hate having to practise songs, I just know I'll get it right in practise then not do it in the career mode :/

Nah, only 3-4000, but I think I timed the Star Power passages just right, so not sure how much more can be scored at that level :)

And Hard is now done :) Free Bird is soooo much easier than some of the songs before it (Carry Me Home and Psychobilly Freakout being the only two to actually beat me). Now I'm not sure whether to go on the Expert career or go back and hone my skills by trying to 5 star as much as possible on Hard. I don't know whether I'll ever get all of them done, but it's worth a try :D

I decided that for now I'm going to try to 5 star as much as possible. Some songs have been done already, some will require a lot more practise to get even close to 5 stars. Still, considering it wasn't that long ago I was having trouble 5 starring all of medium on the PS2, thinking I'd never ever complete Hard, I reckon I've still got some improvement left in me :D

So near, and yet so far. This time I managed to miss a single solitary note on Free Bird :(

However, it was the 1155th note, so the 1000 note achievement is mine :D :D :D :D On the way to getting that, I also got the 400k achievement, as with the right star power timing I ended up scoring 418006. That's 2 of the harder achievements gone now. It's been a productive Guitar Hero evening :D

I'm done in now though, time to play PES6 or something to relax :D

Edit: For a laugh, I've just had a quick go on Jordan on Expert, and actually managed to get 42% of the way through before failing. Managing to nail the star power bits at the start is cruicial to finishing it for sure.

The Trooper is good fun, I got 5 stars on medium and 3-4 stars on Hard. Cracking song, good fun to play at both levels. I'd pick that, and I'll play it through on medium and hard and see what scores I can get. Might as well see what we can score on both difficulties. If my fingers had a death wish I'd give it a try on expert as well ;D

I may need to attempt expert to scrape some last few $ to get the last shop achievement (outfits), though I reckon I can get more money from the songs I scraped through 3*ing on the early hard tiers!

Do you need to buy costumes for the characters you have to buy?

I went back to 5 starred some of the earlier hard songs to get the cash I needed, as I was in the same boat as you. You only need to buy the outfits for the original characters as well and not the unlocks, which makes things a bit cheaper :)

I've got all the shop stuff now thankfully, so I don't need to worry about buying anything else. Having a second band to get all the guitars and finishes was definitely the easiest way to do things.

Same here. Try going through the bonus songs, some of them are actually a little challenging, even on medium, they use a fair number of off-beat notes and hammer-on/pull-offs so they're nowhere near as easy as the other songs. One of them even had the gall to cause me to 4 star it, I wasn't happy! ;D

Just your highest score overall, which is shown with a letter after it to show what difficulty level it was achieved on. I can always post pictures of each score if people need them :)
