Prompted by complaints our kitchen (and bedroom, and back room etc) are starting to look like an e-scrapyard, I'm finishing some of my ongoing projects before they get chucked in the bin.

I need to mount a laptop dvd drive in a 5.25" bay but I can't find anywhere that sells mounting kits and my google-fu is weak.

Any of you good people know where I could get one?

I'd had a quick look around and can't find anything too helpful either so your google-fu can't be that weak old man :p, I can find an adapter to get a standard IDE interface (http://www.directron.com/cddvdadapter.html) for the drive but nothing to directly mount it in a 5.25" bay. I rather suspect that since it is such a small market for enthusiasts only that it doesn't exist in commercial form so I imagine it is a case of DIY. Maybe you could adapt a 3.5" to 5.25" drive bay adapter. :)

//edit, I also found a couple of USB enclosures for optical drives but that isn't what you want either I suppose.

I may have just the very thing you want in my office. I'll ask one of the minions to have a look around and see what we can find.

I love you Burb.

Any luck with the minion poking?

He's still doing that. He'll get him to look when he's finished with the poking.

That looks like the bugger. If you can get one, let me know and we'll sort something out.

I've got a spare one here (I can see the box its sitting in), but it's mega buried! Will try and get to it this weekend...

Then I'll just nab a replacement from work at my leisure.

Any good?

How much of it do you want? If you think you might want all of it I'll probably ask a couple of squid, but if you just want the mounting frame (and I'll chuck in the cable and screws too) then you can have it for nowt as I only want the drive itself as a spare.

Any good?

Perfect!

I just want the mounting bit, not the drive. I'll PM you my address and hereby promise to buy you a pint.
