View Full Version : Rocky Balboa
Much better than I was expecting, the actual boxing itself was pretty realistic I thought even though the concept of an old ex-champion fighting the current champion was pretty flawed in that I don't think it'd ever happen.
Thoroughly enjoyable filum, one of the best ones in the Rocky franchise.
:party2: :party2: :party2:
I saw this the other night and really enjoyed it too :D (was too embarassed to start a thread though :embarassed: )
Yeah some of the script was beyond corney, but *that* is part of the point of a Rocky film, some of it was corney for a point too
Rocky Balboa: Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you. You're better than that!
Time permitting, I'm going to try and see this next weekend.
I haven't been to the cinema in ages. Orange Wednesdays usually are when I try to go - but obviously I'm not going to buy 2 tickets just for myself :p
I always thought the Rocky films were "ok" - but I'm willing to give this a chance as I do most films. I used to go the flicks 3 times a month... Need to start going more.

Buy one for you and one for me then! If you're not doing anything this coming Wednesday that is.
Ooooooh I might well do that! I need to find out if I'm in the UK though first!
I watched it from the comfort of my sofa :)

When i was at the vets the other day the vet stuck his head out the door and shouted " Rocky ? "..... silence.......
" Is Rocky the Hamster here ? "
Some dude stood up with a shoe box.
I pissed myself and shouted "Great name dude" whislt everyone else laughed at me and Rocky the Hamster. :)
I watched this the other weekend, and I wasn't all that much impressed. I still don't entirely understand why he got back in the ring, what the real motivation behind it was. Seemed to me to be just some anger management. Some of the film was good, some of the acting as laughable as oft before, but nothing that really made me think at the end of it "This was worth my time". It didn't feel like a complete waste however, unlike some films when I really wonder why I bothered buying tickets for it.
Rocky films have never been just about the boxing.
Enjoyed it, and thought it finished off the series really well and hit exactly the right note. :)
Well I'm booked 241 Orange Wednesdays with Monsieur Burble. :)

watched it fri night, was really good, :D,
in an interview with Sly he said that the studio wanted him to have a bit of a gut and to not train more than he usually does in order to represent the average bloke (yeah, right!) but 5 weeks before shooting he decided to get in shape for the movie and worked out for 6½ hours a day, 6 days a week to look like that... bloody good work in 5 weeks if you ask me. he must've been pretty fit to start with though.
Sly also said that in his prime he could bench-press 385lbs, so i didnt belive he could really press the weight in the film, it was 6 x 45kg ! - 270kgs :P
Crikey that's almost 600lbs!!! I can only bench around 120-130kg...
I have the Rocky theme as my ringtone.

yer which is why i couldnt believe in the film he was doing 270kgs, although it comfims it if when he said in his youth he could do 385lbs which is 175kgs, although that still a hell of a lot.
not gunna tell u what i do, buts it aint 120 kgs !!! :P far from it !

George Foreman came out of retirement several times to box for the world title :)
And beat Michael Moorer in 1994 to win the title aged 47.
Make no mistake, no matter how old he may be, if big George hits you flush then it is goodnight. Moorer was well ahead on points before being caught by a Foreman bomb.
An ageing Chuck Wepner fought Muhammad Ali in 1975, the fight that inspired the Rocky films. Although a journeyman fighter he was one of only 4 men to put Ali on the canvas but went on to lose the fight, but the admiration of others.
