Eclipse capping usenet?

I've not used usenet for a few months, just went back and am trying to download some stuff but it's painfully slow (61Kbps).

Does anyone know if Eclipse have started capping usenet traffic? I'll be pretty pissed off if they are as I've just paid for six months subscription via a third party provider.

My personal view is that everyone traffic shapes now. If they don't, they either will soon, or they'll be out of business soon. Even Entanet who were widely regarded as the best for big downloaders have had to start throttling bandwidth, though their approach is somewhat novel and may actually benefit big downloaders.

ADSLguide may have more details on your specific problem, but like every other ISP I can think of, it's full of people bitching about slow speeds, so good luck finding details.

You don't deal with customers who think they have a god given right to a 1:1 contended service for £25 pm or less though, so that point is somewhat moot. :)

Curious stat for you, one days worth of news archives on the clara.net news servers comes to 2.5Tb.

Accessing over nntp or http, Feekles? I did read a few months back (on adslguide.org.uk as it was then) about some ISP's capping nntp but don't remember if Eclipse was one of those mentioned.

I pay for their highest level of home use which according to that link has a limit of 50Gb/month during peak times which are 18:00-00:00

No chance I'm going to get anywhere near that level during those times so the level isn't a problem but I have noticed that the newsgroups are faster when I look in the morning so they obviously are shaping at certain times.

Same deal as PlusNet then, just not as bad as them - I'd have great difficulty hitting their peak caps with my current usage pattern, but I still have to make sure I keep large amounts of encrypted and P2P traffic outside peak times.
