View Full Version : Crackdown Demo
Anyone else downloading this?

I doubt I'll be able to buy it but the demo looks fun :) Heard it's a bit Saint's Row/GTAish.

Was rather unsure about this myself but was listening to the major nelson podcast and have decided to give the demo a go and see. Will download later.
It's on my list to fetch tonight, after it never surfaced last week.
It's downloading bloody slow :(
Only got to 10% in an hour.

I'll get it tonight and give it a go as soon as it downloads. The videos for it look interesting so I'm looking forward to trying it :)

Ah well, no rush.
Got my Uni work done and now playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance which is keeping me entertained anyhow :)
And done.
Only took 4hrs ;D
Not heard of this, might take a look tonight.
I've also not heard of it, but this from another forum makes me wanna play...
pick up car with civilians in (or cops).
take said car to river.
throw car in river.
watch people drown.
...blow stuff up
Rawk on!

For whatever it is worth I've got a few mates who worked/are still working on this game and it is supposed to be very good although the 'sandbox' part is meant to be more entertaining in some ways than the actual gameplay. :)
The full version ships with the Halo 3 demo, bit of a sneaky way to boost sales really.
Sold :D It'll be the Zone of Enders of this generation, which was a great game.
This is like Zone of the Enders
I loved that game.

It won't be the first time the sandbox side of the game is more enjoyable than the main missions. It's great fun in GTA and Saints Row to just drive around and interact with everyone.

Well just finished playing the hour demo (seems we have a timed demo but can play the whole game) I just spent most of my time running and jumping everywhere to get the agility orbs :D that was a lot of fun.
Does anyone remember that game on the cube that was manga style? The graphics to me seem almost drawn/cartoon like but still realistic at the same time. Give it a go you'll see what I mean. The main character has a blank outline, erm why??? :p
The controls felt good, very similar to Saints Row and everywhere seems reachable, you just have to decide on the easiest way of getting there. I did do some killing which was rather good, the lock on feature was nice with the aiming though it seems you have to aim in the general direction of the enemy for the lock on to work. The progression system is well done and you can do what you like, my agility was maxed out by the end but I hadn't touched explosives or driving :D
Oh the whole I'd say it certainly was enjoyable but not entirely sure if I'd spend my money on buying it. Maybe one for rental if I ever get this montly game rental system sorted.

I want this game to be good really badly, as I was let down by Just Cause.
It will be my end of exams present to myself! playing this demo :p
Not touched the 360 since the 14th of december because of them!!
I really enjoyed that demo. Its like a fresh take on the GTA style of things. I like that you can take quite a bit of punishment too, then just hide round the corner Halo style to get your health back. What really sold it was getting into the supercar at the start and hearing Hybrid playing. A game with Hybrid! Feb 23rd according to Amazon. Nice :D When you get the best car it has guns! That opens up so much carnage :D

I really quite enjoyed that! Played it for the full hour (taking me past my bedtime!), and had great fun just jumping around, throwing stuff around, and being a basic badass. It was fun when I built up my strength to 3 stars, was able to pick up police cars and throw them at the bad guys shooting at me. It saved the police having to go to them to arrest them :D

Played the demo again this morning, and it's going on my pre-order list now. It's just so much fun jumping around the city, finding the hidden orbs, increasing your strength by killing the enemies with a kick to the face, then throwing cars at them when you're strong enough. I think it's one of those games that you'll play to explore the city, doing missions as you come across them, rather than going all out to find them. I can see this being a big hit when it comes out :)

In a way that is the part that sold it for me :) I was looking across the city scape looking for the tallest buildings and trying to get to the top. It was awesome fun :)

it's ok, just wave at slipstream in jail :p
The key to this thing's success and longevity will be the missions and activities I reckon, or rather, the amount and variation of them. The gameplay is good, and a novelty which has made the demo enjoyable, but it'll probably become stale without too much effort. I mean, nobody can really play GTA for any great length of time sticking only to walking the streets and killing people.
In the demo I did 2 missions where I had to infiltrate some compound and eliminate a target, and a racing mini game where I wasn't actually racing any opponents :/ Going to get bored of them very quickly.
I do like the game though, and it certainly has potential. Didn't play the full 60 minutes of the demo either so it's possible I missed a great deal.
I'll be renting it, although it'll probably be months till I can get hold of a copy on swapgame :p. I'm always slightly unsure of GTA style games and I find they can be very hit and miss for me personally.
With the GTAs I tend to get bored half way through and give up.

I'll definitely be buying it. I read the review on IGN this morning who gave it 8.0/10, and they said that it's a fairly short game (6-8 hours for the missions), but I reckon exploring the city to get all 500 agility orbs will take god knows how many hours, which was hugely addictive in the demo. The ability to leap Hulk-like through the city is great in the demo, makes you feel like a real super hero :)

Thats odd, I don't think any of my mates who work for RTW have an official copy yet. ;) Enjoy the game, I think from what I've seen so far it is more of a rental title (assuming I had a 360 of course) but it should still be pretty good. :)
Got the full game, last in Tesco :D I've spotted some odd glitches in it. The most obvious was a guy who walked straight up into the sky, looked around and then walked downwards. Another time was where my car went mental and shot off at warp speed. I got told off for killing innocents too.

I'll be getting it tomorrow I think, won't get time to go into town after work to get it (I'm trading in some old games so can't go a supermarket). I'm really looking forward to it, the demo was ace and the achievements all look gettable so it should be great fun going through trying to get them all.

Picked it up at lunchtime on a whim, will report back later, if I can pull myself away from this and trying to get my online poker balance over $200

Loving this game!
I'm not a huge fan of games with a large sandbox element but this is great, the method of character progression and the subtle graphical changes are inspired, there are so many elements to it; shooting, driving, collecting, levelling and best of all the puzzle style elements of scaling tall buildings. I spent quite a while on the first section levelling my characters skills and was thinking the second part would be quite easy, boy was I wrong! Felt like starting the game again, a real challenge! Its not like GTA its much more free-form and feel less repetitive whilst still having a plot. I'd give this 9.5/10 and say its one of my favourite 3 games for the 360 so far. I'm not convinced about re playability but it well worth the asking price for just once through

Agreed. My driving skills need more attention so I can just go off and do that for a bit. I like the way only gangs seem to drive around at night too. I can attack a base with just brute strength, throwing cars and people, or I can jump up high and use a sniper rifle. If I get bored I can go off orb hunting in a totally parkour way and man its exciting jumping streets. Scary too. "Gunna make it, gunna make it.... not gunna make it *splat*"

Been playing this a lot since Saturday and I'm loving it. I had a brief spell where it seemed boring, but I figrued out that it was purely because the game lacks good music when you're on foot, so as soon as I had some decent music playing I was loving it again.
I love the little things that can make you laugh out loud. I was on the freeway and decided to cause a bit of mayhem, blasting tyres of cars as they went by, and thanks to the Havok physics the results were great, cars flipping over, crushing pedestrians (and me), smacking into each other, and causing nice big pile ups. :D
I also angered the police somewhat by deciding the best way down from a tall building was simply do jump down and land on their car, crushing it. Needless to say they were not best pleased. I've also done that and landed on a gang members head :D
I also love the fact that dying means nothing (unless you're after the 'kill 200 gang members before dying' achievement). You can try stupid things like jumping to a building you're sure is too far away, and if you die, meh, you can just respawn with no penalty.
Like MB I also love the challenge of trying to climb tall buildings, especially as I've not got 4 star agility yet (though I'm very close). When I get 4 stars I'm going after the Agency Tower, that should be great fun trying to climb.
I've still got tons to do as well. I've only got about 260 of the 500 agility orbs, and less than 50 of the 300 hidden orbs. My driving skills suck and I've got a lot of achievements left to do. Should be plenty left to keep me entertained when I kill everyone off :D
Oh, and the missions are good fun too ;D
I put some music on last night and turned off the in-game stuff. The result was that I got my driving skills up to 4 stars and really annoyed the police. I spent most of the game trying to avoid civilian casualties but with the top car and its on board guns, with Marylin Manson playing, I was just mowing everyone down. I found that even if I do I still got enough stat points to make up for it.

Really enjoying this after spending a fair bit of time playing it since Saturday. Finished all the main missions now, the Wang one was done last night and it was a pain trying to navigate his building. Now I know where I'm going I could do it in 10 minutes but it took me over an hour as I was benig careful and making sure I didn't die in case I couldn't remember how to get back up.
So now it's just a case of working through all the achievements. I've got 100 agility orbs left and over 200 hidden orbs to find, so getting them will take some time. Then it's mainly the driving achievements as I already have a lot of the other ones. Now that everyone is dead I can play with the crimes back on which adds gang members back to their respective areas, which means you can still kill people all the time to boost your skills \o/
Just found a link to a map with all the agility orbs if anyone's interested, it's a 21 meg pdf file.

Might be worth getting it quick, apparently it's a IGN walkthrough so it may be nuked soon. :(

I reckon I'll be able to find the 100 I've missed, they're fairly obvious when you're close by, and with 4 star agility I should be able to reach all of them. It's just a matter of time to find them. I'll probably need a map for all the hidden orbs though, some are indeed very well hidden.

Happy Hunting (http://achievementjunkie.com/2007/03/07/your-orb-hunt-is-over/)
I impulsively bought this today as I traded in a load of games and managed to have enough credit for this and Theme Park when it comes out Friday.
Glad I did :D I was slightly unsure but decided to rely on reviews and people's opinions, but really enjoyed what little I've played of it so far.
Definitely loving the fact death is no big deal, makes me more keen to try adventurous stuff :)
Still trying to figure out a few things but it's looking very promising for a long lasting game.

If you play it tomorrow night Jen let me know, and I'll come on and do some co-op with you it you like? :)
Will do :) Not 100% sure if I will be about but definitely about Wednesday and Thursday night.
Looks like it's got a nice co-op mode.
Definitely be about tonight :D
Edit: Except I've just realised my headset isn't here :(
