I guess I can't just throw this out, or can I? If I can't - what's the best way to deal with it?

Give your local council a call and ask them. As it's domestic rubbish they should be able to help you.

I called my council to dispose of some UPS batteries. Told them what they were and everything.

In the back of a crusher they went. I watched the men collect them. Oh well.
