Anyone heard of or used Masterquote?

They have quoted me £100 less than my renewal from Elephant which is pretty amazing, only £420 for the year and with only a small premium for monthly payments , thats with my NCB protected too :)

Sainsburys come pretty close (£480) and a bit better known.

Anyone got any tips?

Other than haggling a bit (always haggle!), privilege and admiral have been good to me in the past.

Tesco was best by far for me.

I got a quote from Masterquote back in 2004 and it was the best I'd got so I paid for the policy and thought that was the end of it.

A few hours before my policy with Zurich was due to run out, Masterquote called to say that they were very sorry but that they couldn't cover me because the car had been re-mapped. That left me with about 3 hours to get a policy up and running. Bastards.

Mic thinks hes used them for bikes in the past and not had any problems.

He is currently using Tesco though

Ring the cheapest one, tell them that you want to go with them because of a recommendation but you are a little more expnsive than xyz insurer ( make the figure 10-20% cheaper ) they will almost certainly reduce their price

Bell Direct for me. I insure the MR2 and A4 collectively for just over £700 fully comp.

Privilege were the best for me.
my insurance is £420 FC, and that was with the prodrive as well!

When I was phoning around for quotes, the best I could get was nearly £800! And that was with 'specialist' insurers that deal with Jap performance and imports etc..

I've been with MCE for my bike insurance - just had my renewal, £257 TPFT  Worth checking out if you're a biker. :)

I'm with the Post Office at the moment, got a quote off £350 FC my 1.2l clio and a year of having a license and no claims.
Got £50 back too as they had an offer on at the time. :)

Last year I was with Tescos and they quoted me £550 which as a brand new driver seemed pretty good, but they couldn't beat the Post Office this year.

I'm with them too. I have 2 years no claims and it only cost around £350 with £50 cash back.

Well I got my renewal price from tesco the other day, £1150.80 eeeeekkkkkk, so I have done some searching around and got a quote from kwik fit at £897.47, that is without legal cover though which will cost an extra £30 I believe, but still I am very pleased with that.

But do I still try and haggle for more off?

Thats a lot of money, what car do you have?

A 1.2 51 plate Corsa, but have just finished my first year off driving, so only 1 NCB. I think that is quite good tbh, last year was £1500 or near enough:)

That's crazy money for that car, can't believe you'd have to pay that much .

If you can get a quote that low for that Paula I think your very lucky, but even you said that all your friends your ages makes them sick when they hear how much you pay. Pretty much anyone I talk to say that what I am likely to pay this year for insurance is pretty good, I have to agree it is VERY expensive but everyone my age has to pay alot on insurance. But for Fully Comp cover I am really quite happy with that, of course I would like it lower but it is very unlikely that I will get any lower quotes.

Those quotes make me very glad I learnt to drive later on so I was over 21 when getting quotes.

As long as your happy Tink. I drive inexpencive (crap) cars, <£1000 so only insure TPFT so my insurance is always going to be less. Couple that with pass plus and it goes down again. EH10 postcode also seems to help.
Have you put on one of your parents as a second driver with yourself as main?

Can anyone tell me where I can find the area ratings for car insurance? Just rang up to tell them I'd changed my address and they reckon I've gone from a level 4 area to a level 18 area and want to charge me an extra £75 for the next 4 months. This is bull****! Leon's insurance didn't change and he previously lived in the sticks which will also have a low crime rate.

I'm sure there's a site which tells me this, but I don't know where it is... grr!!!

Hmmmm, this woman was on about going from an area with a rating of 4 to one with a rating of 18... so I don't think it's the right one. Thanks anyway. It shows me that my old house and the new one are at least in the same insurance band as far as this table is concerned.
